@@jackwillis1731 There is a stigma surrounding Diamondback that they are "department store bikes" although over the last 5-10 years they have made leaps and bounds in their technology and that specific Diamondback in the video is about the best mountain bike an average person would ride.

@@jackwillis1731 ehh kinda I mean they're probably both as known I know both of them from Seth's channel but also because I'm really into mountain biking diamondback is more of a prestigious company where you pay more you get more while giant is more of a beginner / mediocre brand
@cmpoirot14 жыл бұрын
@@jackwillis1731 Well, for a long time, Diamondback used to have some quality issues. Up until about 2015-16ish they were essentially WalMart bikes. After some changes in upper management, they decided that they wanted to turn their brand around. They changed their business model to sell direct to consumer like Canyon, and showed that they could manufacture some really quality product while they revitalized their brand. Now they've proven that they are a major contender in manufacturing bikes again, but the scar of a couple of decades making terrible bikes still remains for a lot of people in the bike world
@cujows18444 жыл бұрын
Mr. Thonk giant is not a mediocre or beginner brand. They manufacture most of the frames for nearly every bike company. They’re arguably better than DB because they have a larger selection and they sell stock bikes specced higher than what you would get on a 5c

I love these parts bin upgrades. I have a 2012 Trek Marlin GF that I've been riding for 4 years. It began life as a 3x8 with a junky front fork and cheap rims running 2.2 inch 29'rs. Now its a 1x10 with a Manitou air sprung fork with good 29x2.4 tubeless tires on nice DT swiss rims. Lotsa people said I'm wasting money. I didn't. It taught me a lot, I got to trade parts with friends and I have a lot of nostalgia. I think its a great lesson to teach the kids on our NICA team that I coach too... to not just run to the store and buy new everytime a new fad comes along. Sometimes it makes sense, but a lot of times it doesn't.

Those entry level Giants sometimes come with stupid head tubes and you are stuck with the stock fork. I don't see what is wrong with a 3X setup. I still have a 3x8 on my "vintage" 26" Giant Upland. I updated the stem to a shortie and larger 31.8mm oversize bars and Odi Rogue grips. Then I replaced the original derailluers with newer units. I bought a comfy Serfas seat with cromoly rails too. I also added a chain guard that someone 3d printed off Amazon. I'm glad you posted this video because sometimes helping people really sucks. When you work on a stranger's car, bike, computer, etc, you can run into unforeseen problems that really suck the wind out of your sails.

PNW components are the bomb, in my opinion. My bars, grips, dropper, and dropper lever are all PNW and they’ve really exceeded my expectations for the last 6 months that I’ve been running em! 👌
