There is that saying, "You don't know how good you have it until its gone." Then you learn to appreciate those things much more when they return. That means, sometimes you have to loose something to actually realize how much it meant to you. When I lived in the mountains of Colorado, in a one room cabin with a little wood burning stove, no electricity, no running water, no bathroom, no shower, it was like going through a time warp when I went back into the city where all those things are available. So, I truly know how you feel about having a flushing toilet. Fantastic!

Another great video!! I learned a while back to never take for granted the things you have. We lost our 3 bedroom home to foreclosure and had to move to a 1bedroom apartment. We had to let go of a lot of belongings at that time. I look back now and realize that once you lose almost everything and get back little things they mean so much more than before. So flush that toilet but don't ever forget the horrible buckets. Love, love your family and all your videos. 💕💕

Congrats! Another stage. BTW, having endured 'the buckets', lack of water, and such, you have experienced, AND SURVIVED, what, for most people would be a 'disaster' situation. You've found it CAN be survived, and you can even THRIVE in the situation. Should you find yourself in the middle of a blizzard, or other event that takes down the grid utilities, you can and will just shift gears a bit, revert back a bit, and carry on. THAT is a gift that most parents never give their kids, that kind of experience. My boys never really appreciated those kinds of experiences until they became adults, and joined the military. All of them said that the time we spent camping, and 'living rough' made field exercises seem a lot better than their mates took them. I just thank them for letting me know...

I so loved the joy of the toilet install!! Very reminiscent of my rebuild after the 2016 flood here. While waiting for the contractor to fit me in the schedule, a path to my still functioning, but mostly broken bathroom was built so I’d have a toilet and shower until they could start. Then came the day when the contractor called and said “tomorrow.” Most of the house was blocked off, including the bathroom. I had the kitchen, den and laundry room with a bucket. Repairs there were done while I lived in an apartment right after the flood, then I moved into the den. Many months later, the bathroom was rebuilt first and again a path was built so I could use it. In my mind, there is not much better than saying goodbye to a bucket-style composting “toilet.” Good job!! Plus, your words at the end echo what many of have felt after living “without the luxuries we were born into.” It’s storming right now, but I’m watching the tree branches bend over and saying prayers for the flood victims in Kentucky. Those prayers include gratitude for mindfulness. . . and a flush toilet.

I wasn't always appreciative of running water until the pandemic and seeing people in refugee camps. The recommendation was to wash our hands to "Happy birthday " and there were SO MANY people without access to water. Yay for the doodie gobbler! My little brother called it that. LOL. Watching your children play outside, enjoying the sprinkler brought me back to my childhood, and being unaware of anything better than what we’re doing at that point in time! The memories are burned into my brain. I can’t remember any thing we did when we went to an amusement park, just that we went every Thanksgiving, and came home to dinner almost ready for a very tired and hungry bunch of kids. Those memories are wonderful and make me smile like a loon, but they also heal my soul, as they bring up my mom, may she rest in glory. She made it all happen as a single mom, then added an amazing man who became dad down the road. You are giving your family the most amazing gift they could ever receive! 👏🏽🥰🙏🏽✌🏽💖

Your wax ring is upside down it sits flat on the floor flange … when running new lines run water thru the water supply into a bucket so any contaminants go into the bucket and not into a toilet bowl or new faucet …. Woohoo!! What a glorious moment! 😜🤣 I totally understand as we use a huge stock pot with a pool noodle (comfy BTW lol) around the edge as our "poop pot" and I'm usually the designated "refresher". It was a learning experience trying to find the best medium to use and we settled on horse bedding wood pellets...it just turns to saw dust when wet. It has the best "release" when emptying without much of a mess at all and surprisingly works great at coverage and with minimal dust or smell...except the initial phew ofc. 😬 It's not such a big deal anymore but certainly took some getting used to. 🙈🙉🙊 P.s. I love your inspirational messages at the end! 🥰

So happy for you guys. Most of us have experienced this “makeshift” toilet in their lifetime and until/or unless you have , you have no idea how satisfying it is to have a running toilet in the house. Good for you guys, so happy! I have to say, your kids are so well rounded. I can say that they have the kind of childhood that I had like60-70 years ago, minus the horses and tractor. They will be better humans for having been brought up with love and less toys/junk to keep them busy. Outside is the best toy a child can have, summer or winter. I so look forward to Saturday morning with my cup of coffee, watching this. I keep checking how much time is left in the video and I hate to see the red dot get closer to the end! Good choice on the couch colour. So happy he saw the “light”. I think the grey/charcoal would have been the wrong choice, imo anyways. Love your stools, love your beds. Can’t wait to see the beds all set up. Good job guys. Thanks for another amazing video. (Ps, did you not stop in for a donut, I’m sure you did.)
