Keep it simple (amêijoas á Bolhão Pato), olive oil, garlic and salsa or coentros at the end. Maybe a spoon of butter to give some consistency and pepper at your taste. Get rid of clams that don't open. They should be all opened after 20 minutes on a partially closed pot, low heat (not minimum). Eat them with rye bread or a mixed one (pão de mistura, pão da Mealhada, saloio...)
@cleantheocean4 жыл бұрын
Almost forgot, leave clams submerged in cold water around 5 minutes before cooking to remove sand and excessive salt (needless to add any while cooking)

I'm not na expert but I can tell you a story ! Once a ship from japan came to the Tagus estuary in Lisbon, and drop the ballast water in the river. Since then, in Lisbon it's easy to eat that kind of ameijoa (you can find many man picking - ameijoa japonesa in low tide, near Vasco da Gama bridge) which is very similar with the portuguese "ameijoa-boa", but the flesh it's smaller and diferent. Look for ameijoa-boa in Ria Formosa, Ria de Alvor, or Ria de Aveiro, it's more expensive but ...

The clock tower, known as "Torre do Galo" (Roster Tower) is the remains of the "Royal Shack" (Real Barraca). A great wooden royal palace built after the 1755 earthquake that destroid the "Palácio da Ribeira", the royal palace that existed on Terreiro do Paço. The king then got afraid of living on a stone palace, in case of another earthquake, so he ordered a new palace to be built of wood, to be resistant to earthquakes. But guess what... it was not resistant to fire! It was full of riches and tapestries, and all the best things. But unfortunately it burned to the ground in a huge fire a few years after being built. So, the new Palácio da Ajuda was ordered. This palace, has never been finished. It's 1/3 built. The "façade" we see nowadays is a lateral, is not the front of the building. The works stopped due to the french invasions, and when the court left to Brazil. Since then the works never resumed. A little history for you guys! ;)
@joaoportalegre36594 жыл бұрын
The "Torre do Galo" wasn't part of the "Barraca Real" was part of the "Capela Real" The "Capela Real" was demolished in the 19th century, leaving only the "Torre do Galo" because it is the only part not made of wood. Work on the west facade of the palace is ongoing and is likely to be completed before the end of the year. Finally 250 years after the beginning of the works, the Ajuda Palace will be completed.

I believe the Ajuda neighbourhood must feel like a village: on a school trip to the Ajuda National Palace there were chickens roaming freely on the road near the back entrance of the palace (the one they're finally concluding after like 300 years).😃 You pronounce "Ajuda" like if you were Galicians…😁 You might want to try bacalhau com natas (or the older version, bacalhau à conde da Guarda), it's basically bacalhau for beginners that even kids like.😉
