This is hilarious!!! I did many of the same things, just later in life! I also put down a large down payment on a house, became mortgage free in 13 years and sold it and went back to renting. Life is so much easier and wealthier when renting…unless you are someone that enjoys yard work. I’m in my low 50s and have built up a pretty good investment portfolio of $800k and will make a little over $34k in dividends this year. My focus is to continue to increase my dividend income then retire at 55-57. Congratulations on finding the secret much earlier! Love you channel and investing strategy!!

Congrats to both of you. You've got a lot to be proud of. My wife and I are on similar path, although we're a bit older (ok...more than a bit older, but who's counting...I still feel like I'm 30). We could probably retire now (from our investments alone), but I want to pay off our mortgage, like you guys did. We've still have a few years to go, because we upgraded in 2015 (moving from small home in Brampton to a much larger home on 3 acres in Caledon). If we had stayed where we were, we would have already been mortgage free, but we don't regret our decision. In fact, after all the lock down orders, it's great to be able to go for a walk without seeing anyone...LOL. Cheers!

Thanks so much for sharing your investment journey! A lot of stocks you recommend to buy are under my radar too. I have been trading tech stocks quite frequently, a few transactions very month for three years. I didn't make any money because I buy more when price is going up and sell when price is going down. The up and down of stock market makes me frustrated. I very much look forward to switching to your passive income strategy so I can sleep well and concentrate on work instead of peeping the stock prices all the time.

I totally get you... i tried making money this way years ago and luckily i always made $ and never lost any (overall) but its really not worth the hassle, time and stress. If you love Tech i got 2 perfect ETFs for you. Just buy them and hold them forever. They only hold tech stocks and the ETF manager sells Covered Calls to boost the income of the funds Stock Symbol: TXF: www.firstasset.com/solutions/overview/?fund=CI+First+Asset+Tech+Giants+Covered+Call+ETF+%28CAD+Hedged%29 Stock Symbol HTA: harvestportfolios.com/etf/tech-achievers-growth-income-etf/ The main difference between the two is that TXF pay the dividend every quarter and HTA pays it every month. TXF however, does have a slightly higher dividend Yield. I own both of these :). Very easy way to make consistent income with Tech stocks Sleep well my friend

Thanks for the video and advices Adrian but also I felt terrible watching this, I am 38 (first time Mom), who got a brand new 0km car on 2020 🤦🏽‍♀️ and now have a debt of 60k with a husband killing himself 10hrs working. What should/could do? Someone suggested to sell back the car to dealership, and get a line of credit, and pay off that car with less interest. So, after that we could be able to start saving for our house downpayment. That I believe now, I'll take many many years. Oh god! I feel bad 😞

Do you rebalance? Did you reinvest on a regular (monthly, quarterly) basis or did you wait for discounts? Thanks

Hey Adrian, great vid. I'm currently an active value investor switching to the passive income style on your channel. Do you find that you make more returns through the active or passive income dividend investing style? Main inspiration for my transition in investing style at the moment is due to less time to valuate companies actively, and I think if I just focus on my career my company will reward me higher for that time. Passive income investing is easier it seems. Thoughts?

how come paying off mortgage early is a good strategy? you have to pay around 3-5% interest on mortgage, while you can easily earn (as per your recommendations of covered call dividends and split corp) 10-12% in dividends. So technically the cost of borrowing is less than returns and eventually you have more disposable income.

@neiljohnson7914
@neiljohnson7914 3 жыл бұрын
The withholding tax is not on top of the regular tax. Once your tax owing for the year is calculated, the withheld amount is subtracted from it since you already paid it. I'm not sure why Adrian didn't correct you on that point. The automatic withdrawal is not what you take from the RRSP, it's what you put into it.

Curious about your decision to sell your condo and then lease, after all the effort put in to pay off your mortgage quickly. Was it just because you needed that extra 80K, or so, to get you where your wife could quit her job? Because now you've presumably got $1500-$2000 per month going to rent. Still plenty of money left over monthly, but it's just interesting to me, as it would seem you could have just lived on the dividends from an amount 80K less, and still owned your condo. Anyway, thanks for the interesting videos. I'd never heard of covered call ETFs. I've always been a capital appreciation guy, turning my nose up at income strategies, but my wife is tiring of her job, too, so I'm investigating alternatives.
