We were very surprised to find an egg in the nesting box last night and one this morning. I thought it would be a few more weeks before they start laying eggs. The eggs were absolutely delicious, tasty and better in color than the store bought organic brands.

Same results here... my chickens have been laying now for about 5 weeks. First eggs were small. I was surprised at this, but didn't take long for them to be bigger. Yolks are almost orange! And perky, not flattened out like store bought eggs. The shells are hard. I let my chickens out a lot to forage. Started feeding them laying mash (Dumore) right before they started laying. Supplement with cracked corn, mealworms, scratch, etc etc. There is nothing like getting fresh, free eggs! YUM. Yes it seemed like a long time before they started to lay, but well worth it!

I love making fresh pasta at home, but even though I was trying so hard I never could have that "yellowish" pasta dough and then I noticed it's just because of the egg yolk, only good eggs are the fundamental of a good fresh pasta which looks orange or more yellowish. Your video is a proof of that because of the egg yolk's color. Thank you for the video Pete, bone appetite :)

Interesting! I’d never thought of the yolk and color of pasta. We don’t do a lot of baking either but one of our neighbors does. She always buys our excess exclusively for baking. Any ideas why? Ive heard from several other sources homegrown eggs are superior for baking. 🤷‍♂️

I recommend always waiting until the eggs are finished cooking (at low/medium heat slowly and gently) to add salt as it causes the egg molecules to separate, not stay as closely together/cohesive. Anything you cook will continue to cook until the temp reaches room temp so great that you stopped the cooking early. Great video. I love the organic method and how excited you are is so compelling!

Nice! The eggs I get from my friend at work have orange yolks like that and I love them too! Good work dude and congratulations! We were just visiting Texas last week for my son's wedding. Nice weather there this time of year while we are still feeling the chill here in Oregon.

I cook my eggs in coconut oil too (healthiest oil and can be heated to high temperature without changing its molecular structure ) and I use Himalayan salt 🧂💯❤️

Salt breaks down eggs, if you make up an egg wash for breads, use salt and mix thoroughly, watch it thin it out..so, when cooking eggs, use salt after they’ve set or finished cooking..!

Greetings and salutations Pete. I don't post links on others pages but The Crouch Ranch just posted a vid about a mobile chicken who-da-wankus (it's a real word for Texans) that you might be interested in. I heard you mention feeding clover etc. so that little building might tie in nicely for the next Pete project :) plus they mow the yard!!!

Different breed of hens will make different color yolk. Unless they are the same breed, and fed differently. The yolk will generally look the same. As for the taste, just cause it taste different, doesn’t prove to be more nutritious. My opinion

New Day Farm Absolutely, I put my videos on KZbin for everyone to see and get ideas from. I've learned so much about raising chickens since we started back in December. The hard part is getting everything ready, the coop and run. After that you can relax a bit.

You can use the egg shells for a supplement. Clean the shells good let them dry thoroughly then crush them and put them in you supplement feeder.

Larger grit sized calcium is better as it “lasts” longer especially at night when they are forming new eggs. It’s certainly not bad in any way just be sure to bake and crush them so they can’t recognize it.

My brown hen (probably isa brown) had her first at the age of 17 weeks 1 day, she weight 1.6kg at that time and her first egg only weight 42gr, soo tiny. Today she had her 5th and the weight is 51gr, still tiny but at least it gets bigger 🤣 My other one (i have 2 hens) layed her 3rd today at the age of 17 weeks 3 days, she weight 1.48kg and her 3rd egg weights 47gr. Normal size egg here weight around 62gr, so still a long way to go lmao. I haven't cook any of my 8 precious eggs from my hens yet but i expect it to have more orange yolk too now as i too let them roam around freely in my yard and garden so they be eating grass, vegetable crops, bugs, dirt and leftover fruits from my kitchen. Gotta check it out tomorrow!!

The yolk in the eggs will definitely be more yellow than a store bought egg. I feed my chickens dumor brand feed. If you read the back at tells you when they should start laying eggs and when the start switching their feed. I thought the chart was pretty accurate.

It’s not the same chicken... a hens body take 24-26 hours to produce an egg. I just got my first egg today! It was from my RIR x Ameracuana. It was almost as dark as an olive eggers egg!
