Hi! Just to clarify, the taxi driver wasn't confused about the address! She was asking you to confirm what she had on her phone was the correct address (to which there was no response from you two since you don't speak Mandarin) and then she politely asked you to wait for just a second and then said she would use two different navigation systems just to be sure!! Hope you enjoy your travels-- I always like to remember that if I didn't know English, visiting the US would be very difficult too!

1. Apple maps works in China. 2. Public transport like the subway has English labels everywhere right next to the Chinese characters, even the announcement on the metro is in both languages. Chinese infrastructure is no. 1 in the world and the Beijing Metro should get you to most of the places within the city and it’s dirt cheap. 3. Setup Alipay and it would make your life much easier.

Several tips: 1) English is always available in automatic machines like for metro ticket or ATM. Try to find it. I am wondering why you cannot get a metro ticket in Airport, wired. Apple map works in China. 2) You can easily buy a sim card (1month maybe less than 100 RMB) to setup your Alipay or Wechat on your mobile phone using your overseas M or V or A credit card. 3) If you have questions to communicate, try to find some office clerks, high school students or university students. Beijing kids start their English course when they are very little. Try to speak clearly and slowly to them, you will get help.

In China you get to experience probably the most intense culture shock on earth. Chinese civilization is the only surviving ancient civilization that has continuous history and indigenous people living on the exact same land. In China, foreigners can walk on the streets, in the park holding a camera doing video recording and speak her own language so loudly and yet no one stop or bother them. See this is freedom in China. I remember walking in India New Delhi on the streets. The minute you get out of the taxi there will sure be beggars following you and begging. There are sure to have people following you and wanted to be your sight seeing guide, 3 wheelers rider wanted to bring you for shopping and touting people trying to sell you something. I remember when I was in New Delhi Connaught Place. I can't even enjoy myself. While I was walking, on my right there was 2 kid beggars following me and begging all the way. On my left there was a man holding like 10 sun glasses on his hands and keep asking me to buy from him. 3 wheelers rider following shouting sir! sir! shopping! shopping! good price, good price. And they are so persistent and they can keep following you and make you very irritated. But in China, tourists can really enjoy wandering and walking anywhere freely without anyone bothering you.

China's brilliant and ingenious move to grant foreign tourists a 144 hour visa free transit tourism policy immediately shattered the long-standing anti China public opinion in the United States and the West, quickly reversing China's image and becoming the largest free publicity campaign in history!!! Looking across the vast land of China, there are majestic plateaus, undulating mountains, vast plains, gentle hills, as well as surrounding mountains and a flat basin in the middle. There are 5 basic landform types on land worldwide, all of which are distributed in China! The Chinese Mainland has natural landscapes full of diversity and characteristics, and many of them still remain primitive and appear in the original ecology. Their natural landscapes often have high aesthetic value, which makes people feel relaxed, happy, and open-minded. For example, the country is rich in countless natural beautiful scenes and styles, including mountains, rivers, lakes, forests, grasslands, deserts, glaciers, and so on. The people of all ethnic groups in the country have also learned, supported, and practiced various concepts and habits of respecting, conforming to, and protecting nature in their daily lives since childhood. The national government keeps pace with the times, earnestly grasps the integrity, systematicity, and inherent laws of the ecosystem, adheres to the integrated protection and systematic governance of mountains, waters, forests, fields, lakes, grasses, sands, and ice, implements high-quality ecosystem protection and restoration projects, and enhances national ecological security; The central and local governments are also actively promoting the implementation of various large and small projects for the integrated protection and restoration of mountains, waters, forests, fields, lakes, grasses, sands, and ice. Let us work together to achieve the great goal of a beautiful China and benefit future generations! As we all know, Chinese Mainland has long been a must see place for tourists from all over the world. They have long been interested in visiting the land of China. They are eager to explore and understand a country with a high level of civilization and culture, experience and appreciate the ancient civilization with a culture of 5000 years, and hope to get a glimpse of the leopard through one or even more trips to China. In fact, it is full of cultural landscapes and beautiful scenery like stars. Tourists from all over the world, whether domestic or overseas, can travel all over the country and enjoy the scenery of lakes and mountains. Tourists from all over the world can be fascinated, linger and forget to leave! In addition, tourism facilities are complete in various parts of China today, with clean and hygienic areas, comfortable accommodation, convenient transportation, public security and safety, as well as a wide variety of food, entertainment and shopping options, making tourists feel at home

Glad to see ya’ll had fun!! Quick question, were your flights into and out of China on the same booking or did you purchase two separate one-way tickets?

Hey! Thanks!! We booked our flights separately. We decided we wanted to go to China and then very conveniently our next bucket list country of South Korea was so close so then we booked that. Both flights also happened to be with Air China. I've seen other travelers have a harder time checking in for this flight through other airlines. :)

Thank you for your response!! When you arrived at the 144hour transit desk, did you present an e-ticket/outbound flight itinerary on your phone to the immigration official? Or did demand you actually have the physical official boarding pass for the outbound flight? Thank you!

At least you are not using shocking headline like 90% of other first time travelers to China.

Thanks! Haha, "China shocked us, NOT WHAT WE EXPECTED." Can that be our next one?
