The tree that you saw with the acorns (as well as the general oak tree) is actually part of a family of closely related trees, called Fagaceae. The trees in this family also produce acorns, but in slightly different shape than the oak tree's acorns. These trees span everywhere from Asia to California, with varying heights and leaf shapes. I can't tell exactly what tree that one was, but it's definitely part of this family. Hope this helps.

These episodes just get better and better, That steak looked amazing and the fact that it was making Niels say "Oh My God" after every mouthful proved it was lol. Music was perfect, camera work was on point, the banter between you two was hilarious as always. Man if this doesn't make it to TV then I have to question everything I know about the world.

You guys are awesome with survival stuff, and i like how you guys are inspiring to learn bush craft, and honestly, i love how its not "we're gonna teach you guys how to do it", no it's you guys learning survival, and honestly, thats the best part about it

One thing Gunz did wrong was using the ground when trying to chip a an egde onto that rock, the energy transfers to the ground making it harder to chip that rock, try using a flat rock as a base plate so your using it as a table, and as for river rock yes there good and that main rock you were using would have made a good axe head and about 12 hours of chipping, mine took me over a week with 4 hours at a time,

So I have always loved the outdoors and making my own tools and equipment for a long time, but for the last few years with work and life I just haven't made time to go out and enjoy the outdoors. I found YAW about two years ago and CWS not long after. Watching you guys has rekindled my desire to make the time to get out again. Even started dragging friends up the mountain for a few over night campouts. Thank you and keep up the good work!!!
@bucket13366 жыл бұрын
Great video guys, no better way to learn other than trial and error. I've had success throwing (sounds primitive) rocks onto other rocks. When they break, they create a real sharp edge that you could use as an axe head. The series is looking great guys, well done.

I've always believed you learn more from failure than you do success. Knowing what NOT to do is more important than what to do. This was a great video to highlight that fact. And those steaks looked amazing to boot!

Good to see you building up the bishcraft skills. One tip is to avoid hard angles when trying to keep the wood from splitting, it allows the stress to be spread out instead of focused on a sharp corner.
@cameronw.8986 жыл бұрын
Good job trying a more complex and difficult skill, guys! Looks super challenging but you guys made an excellent first go at it. To prevent splitting the ax handle try wrapping it with cordage prior to setting the ax head.

It’s amazing seeing you guys practicing primitive skills. In my opinion these are some of the most important things in survival situations. For a suggestion I think you should make a video on not getting frustrated while attempting to make a friction fire. (Hint soft wood is better than hard. Some of the best is white pine and cotton wood.) please try by hand and bow drill if possible. Thanks. 22!

The trees that have acorns on them are in fact oak trees. There are a couple of different types of oak trees in the ponderosa pine forests. Emory oak is the tree in question. Gamble oak has the traditional oak leaf.

Oh yeah! Great episode guys! I've made my own primitive tools, and at the beginning it is rough. Especially on your hands. Had more bruises and scrapes than knuckles by the end. And that steak looked fantastic! I really want to grab some friends and do this sort of thing more often.

I believe that tree is in the same family as the eucalyptus tree. Also here's a tip about napping, don't use a rock that is tall and narrow as a shaper, your going to hurt yourself doing that. Instead use a rock that is a more oval shape, something you'd find in a creek or river. It would also be a good idea to get a slab of stone, preferably shale or slate, pour some dirt and water over the top and use that as a wetstone to sharpen the blade.

Hey guns 1 great job on making another great video 2 the rock you made would most likely be used for decor it's too dull to cut wood (my advice get flint or sand water a river rock and a giant stone, put flint or sand on the stone and take your river rock and rub it on the sand fast you'll see the rock smoothen and get smaller) 3 I would love to see you guys do a video on how to make a temporary shelter in a survival situation 4 good job and keep up the great work

Hey guys . firstly , fantastic video, love the editing ,improvements noticed. Secondly maybe add a "previously on can we survive" to the intro as well giving it that TV experience. I think that would also help add on some time to some shorter videos . Awesome job you guys
@CanWeSurvive6 жыл бұрын
We may incorporate something like that in the future. Right now, we're still trying to figure out what kind of videos we want to make long-term, as well as improving all aspects of our filming (i.e. angles, picture quality, etc...)

Oh man... here I am having frozen meals for dinner, and you are showing us beautifully cooked steaks? (I’m so jealous right now.) On another note, I’m honestly not very surprised at the amount of work that goes into the axe making. And many kudos on making that slot in the handle for the stone, ‘cause I find that kind of thing difficult even with power tools. Anyway, thanks again for the video! Keep up the great work!

To make the cut where you put the rock you could bring along two mini hand held saws bolted together (where you could set the distance between them) so you lower the risk of splitting the wood.... Refreshing to see two men out doing survival quests and not trying to make everyone believe they are masters at it and do not make mistakes. I dislike those videos of men acting as if they are macho cavemen and that they know everything. You guys take the audience with you on a journey to learn together. Very refreshing and natural. Thanks and I hope that you two go a long ways in this venture of yours.

Very good! Loved every minute. I will say that maybe a little less talk about what you’re going to do or might do. And start working on it and explain as you go? But that might be just me. I’m more of a ‘just get to doing it’ person? All in all, however, great stuff. The gimbal really makes a huge difference. The improvements to the filming and editing are leaps and bounds better than the earlier shows. Great job guys!
