I remember this song from when I was school age (my first year in the town after years at a small mountain school). Our junior high school was being remodeled to be safer in earthquakes, and we got bussed around town to attend classes with the radio playing on the bus. It was the age of first school dances and new, but awkward, youthful romances, and I seem to recall that the song peaked during our winter rainy season here in California (I just checked that it reached #1 on February 1, 1975, so I remember rightly). It is definitely one of those songs remembered with nostalgia. Neil Sedaka was in the midst of a comeback of sorts, though, throughout his lifetime, he's been a noted songwriter great.

Love your reaction to this lovely song because it's just gorgeous and always makes me smile. From one of the original genuine classic American songwriters this song will always be mentioned whenever great songs are discussed. I'm still smiling as i type

Hello MixxED RE...Thanks for your reaction to Neil Sedaka. Neil began his career when I was a teenager in the late 1950's. He had a string of hit songs until the mid-late1960's. He was a composer too with his songwriting partner, Howard Greenfield. They composed light-hearted love songs mostly for stars like Connie Francis who was the Number One Female singer from 1958 to 1963. Neil's hit songs include "Oh Carol", "Calendar Girl" and "Stairway to Heaven" to name just a few. The overall quality of the original recordings I remember hearing as a teenager are a good introduction. I'm happy you are reacting to the :Oldies". God Bless. Here is a link to an old video (1959) with the original recording we heard on the radio then. It was an innocent age. We kids thought our music was :cool", I still think so too. Purely for your own pleasure, anyone who enjoys this song really has to watch a version sung by his daughter Dara, as a very proud father accompanies her. I saw one where she is much younger, posted by Guillermo Navarrock, and I do prefer Neil's voice but the love between father and daughter so obviously displayed, makes that version rather special

This present generation will not create music so beautiful as this song, why? They stop be creative with lyrics and all about hypes and now. The present is important, however, the future is even more important........

Everybody who was anybody performed on the Midnight Special!! I used to hate it because it literally came on at midnight and I was too young to be up that late😭😭 But I could still hear all the good music from my bedroom while my parents watched it in the living room.😉

You almost got the name right. The a in Sedaka is pronounced like ahhh. He wrote a LOT of songs, not just for himself but for others. One of my favorites is what he did with Breaking up is Hard to Do. He first released it in 1962 (kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpPElWVoeLCfeJY) and then re-released it again in 1975 with a completely different tempo that makes it feel like a totally different song. I'd put money that you will love the 1975 version. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jV7QaJ6fgLKgrM0
