The song is really about ignorance is bliss when it comes to war and how even when war is happening, we as a country don't really notice because it's never at our doorstep. Then, during the rap verse, he talks about the horror, PTSD, guilt, etc. of being a soldier. The line "The war is over, so says the speaker with the flight suit on" is a reference to the press conference George W. Bush had in which he declared victory in the war, and yet many years later we still have troops in the middle east.

... err... isn't the obvious point that he's wearing WW2 'Doughboy' clothing whilst claiming the 'war is over' a full c.50yrs before 'George W Bush' became the media figure promoted as 'El Presidente' quite possibly the 'bigger' reference? I guess it's an educational thing... and, after all, this band is from outside the 20thC/21stC's most fascist, criminal, imperialistic, Empire? (i.e. The USofA).

@@biffwhipffster5551 Dude talks about PTSD from a war, "Out in the desert with a street sweeper." The MRAP used in Iraq looks a lot like a street sweeper. "I'm the reason you fill up your Isuzu." Not exactly a subtle reference to the premise that the Iraq War was for oil. "The war is over so says the speaker, with the flightsuit on." The most famous speech given about the Iraq War at the time this album had come out was President Bush (who was still president when the album way released) saying the war was effectively over in front of a banner saying, "Mission Accomplished," while wearing a flightsuit.

@@BusoRockin1000 Hi Kiever, Yes... Everything you say is spot on. However, I was making the less obvious point that, since the uniform seems to be WW2 pattern, nothing changes. Wars have always been fought for sources. Iraq was oil, (both the physical asset and the fact that Saddam, and in turn Gaddafi, some years later, threatened the all encompassing global power of the petrodollar by declaring they would start exporting crude in euros).

The guy that's the lead of the gorillaz is named Damien. Hes a British musician and was also the front man for a band called blur. The rappers are just featured artists and they represent Russell (the black character in the band) he's possessed by his dead friend. Damien isn't the rapper. He's actually a white British guy. I definitely recommend listening to blur or doing a reaction of their "song 2". Most people have heard it before but don't know they have till they watch the video. If you want to see the guy behind the gorillaz definitely react to blur-song 2 though. It's amazing. You won't be dissapointed.

It’s about the Iran war and guns that are given to kids and the lead singer reading all about it reminded him of the movie Dirty Harry from a famous line. The song was made immediately. Also if you haven’t noticed they are huge Clint Eastwood fans
