Do you know what, I find it super funny that you guys moved to Homestead with the intention of getting animals. And rather than having to buy animals, you have been blessed with foster babies to care for, who really needed your help anyways. It’s such a beautiful thing. That must really make you feel like you’re on the right path. All these little things lining up for you guys so beautifully.

I love how real you are Carrie. Yeah it's so beautiful to live in the country like a dream, but it's also not 'cookie cutter' perfect and the reality is that there are limits such as electricity going out and other services that aren't as widely and quickly available. Thank you for not snipping the 'imperfect' parts of life out and showing the 'whole lens' and even providing us HOW you stay positive and continue luvin' life DESPITE things out of your control - instead of being frustrated, laugh it off, smile about the little joys. Stay true, enjoy beautiful NZ and don't feel pressured to show us perfection EVER! Love from Aus (ur sister country haha!) xxx

If you make sure theres no leafs in/under the water your flowers will keep longer ^^ aswell as like freshly cut stems just before they go in :) in general you should cut them a lil longer than you want, arrange them how you like and cut again to the size you want just before puting them in water. Just a tip from a girl who's worked in flower store for a long time ^^ Lots of love from sweden!

Woolson is totally adorable! 🥰 A friend grew up in Masterton so I can kinda place where you are 😁 nothing better than a good local bakery and homemade sourdough loaf so if you haven't baked SD before Carrie I think you would enjoy the slowness of the process, very meditative. The hoop over the garden looks like a support for netting rather than a trellis? Maybe it was just camera angle but it seemed too low. Yay for swings 🌻🌻🌻 such good vibes from your farm.

This video is just gorgeous, I have loved your videos for a long time now but ever since you moved to NZ I have felt more and more connected with your videos and they are just the best slice of comfort and warmth and realness. You and Alex are living my literal dream and I can’t wait to continue on this journey with you both by watching what you get up to. I live in suburbia with very limited opportunity to grow my own food but I’ve just found out I’ve got my own little plot at a local community garden and I’m so so happy. Your videos on gardening have really inspired me and made me realise where I’m meant to be in life, and that’s living off the land in the country surrounded by animals. One day I might get there who knows! Anyway lots of love and Happy Birthday!

Same thing recently happened to a friend!! She discovered an abandoned lamb in a ditch after a storm. I live fairly central in the city, and they live about 30mins away on a lifestyle block, and before lockdown the little lamby was so delicate that i was fortunate enough to babysit her while my friend was at school each day. That meant having a little lamb in middle of my lounge in my suburban house lol. It really is only in new zealand!!

Beautiful rimu, kauri and totara Nz wood and the floors come up amazing. As u are no longer able to cut these natives down the wood is always worth a lot. My brother who is a master craftsman built me a beautiful bedroom set out of recycled rimu and it's just gorgeous. U r absolutely glowing and woolsin is so cute. Lanka must be in heaven. Ur ducks might even have ducklings at some stage too which will be extra cute. Happy Birthday for yesterday. Arohanui

Hey Carrie, l think by looking at the comments I'm the only male here. 😆 If not l apologize to the others. Love that hat btw! Now I'm retired and from a farming background and just a couple of little tips that you can take or leave. 1. Woolston is a little cutie but please don't over cuddle him at feed time. By now he should have been taking the bottle standing, not in your arms. Unless very very ill, that's the natural way he'd drink from his mom. You'll soon find he prefers it l promise. 2. Lanka is a super dog but give him defined boundaries! Letting him forge his own territory is asking for trouble in the future. This is really important in a farm environment when you have neighbours relatively close. 3. Uh oh... this might annoy you, but l respectfully ask you to enquire with your vet or online, about the risks you and Alex take with your cute habit of kissing your animals. Yes, Lanka too. A close family member of mine got salmonella from the innocent sounding act. Hey - not trying to rain on your amazing parade, and like l said, take it or leave it! Love to you both!👍🏻💕

Very good points. Especially about Lanka :( Legally a farmer can sh**t a dog that’s on their property IF it’s endangering their sheep/cows. (It’s rare to happen) but sometimes once a dog gets a taste of the chase and catch. It can be hard to break that habit. Definitely define boundary’s. And woolston is so cute! He’s going to be one pampered little prince. But yes, should be standing to drink, for his poor digestive system too.

Yah you 2! Well 4 now..... It looks like you will be eternally busy getting everything up and running there. Nothing like the green grass of NZ and the sound of the weather and the early morning birds in the trees. I am a little jealous of your swing set lol. I think the half circle tubes over your vege patches were probably used as frames for plastic tunnels to extend the growing season or protect and hasten the growth of seedlings. But like you say, they will also make fabulous growing trellises. Enjoy this time getting to know your property and discover its delights and intricacies. Nothing the smell of a lamb to bring you back to earth. Have all of the fun. Much love x

I just went through most of yours and Alex's videos on your house hunting journey and it's both cathartic and motivating for me to see others go through some of the same struggles (I've been looking for my own homestead in the South Island), but have things work out in the end! I have no seasoned advice (especially since I'm basically on the same journey, but several months behind you guys), but I'll share one idea that I didn't see elsewhere in the comments (after taking down some of the great suggestions there): you could consider doing some native riparian plantings along the stream and around the pond. They prevent erosion, help the land recover from flooding, stabilize the microclimate around the waterways, offer habitat to wildlife AND help clean the water! You can also use the leaves of the harakeke (flax) for weaving, if you're interested in picking up some traditional Maori crafts. I've been looking for land with a water feature and this is something I'm planning to do if I get as lucky as you guys!

I've seen them used in spring as a mini greenhouse with clear plastic on top over night and on really cold days. The plastic traps the heat from the daytime sun next to the soil so you can start your growing season sooner, before your last frost date. Frost cloth.
