This show completely changed my perspective on the LGBT community. I am an indoctrinated Christian that distanced myself from my upbringing when I moved out. I considered myself an open minded individual but that mindset was truly tested when I binged this show. Our Flag Means Death is one hundred percent a queer show which I was not expecting and in my defense the marketing didn't indicate this at all. I had a ton of laughs and to be honest, a lot of uncomfortable moments especially when it came to the gender fluid character in the show. Cut to almost two weeks later and I still can't stop thinking about this show and It's characters. It's like a group of friends I've never met but I feel a connection with despite our many differences. I'm not a homophobic person and I genuinely believe that people can do whatever they want if it's legal, but admittedly some moments made me uncomfortable but this show forced me to address my prejudges. I can honestly say that I became a better person after watching this show. Season two can't come soon enough!
@christinaward67122 жыл бұрын
I'm so happy to hear that! That's truly wonderful and I hope that you can continue to grow and be more open minded, because there is so much amazing media and entertainment and culture within the queer space.
@secretlyamacat2 жыл бұрын
That is one of the main reasons why we keep campaigning for more representation. Seeing LGBTQIA+ characters exist in stories can help people learn, and become less afraid, more comfortable with the differences that they don't understand, so we can breach these walls that are built by ignorance (often without even realizing). I am so happy to read that you've learned and grown and that you enjoyed the show even if it made you uncomfortable at first, and that you stuck with it! Thank you for sharing your experience.

I was that person last week ago (I think) like someone I followed retweeted something like this and seeing the replies made me very confused. Then I saw more and more tweets related to OFMD (I'm part of a subtwt and I don't think I've ever seen so many people in the subtwt this invested about something not related to what our subtwt is about) with a couple of them quoting it, a few reaction threads, and a couple fanart drawings. There were a lot of interesting tweets but my mind couldn't focus on anything else besides figuring out what "OFMD" meant. All I gathered was that its a good & funny show about gay pirates and the ending is emotional but seemingly nothing about the title cuz almost everyone used OFMD. Then the one time I saw it, I literally thought it was a pun or something. It wasn't until I opened yt and saw a video essay about it that I was finally given an answer (also a bit of a history lesson on gay pirates)
