I notice in my time in high school students are so concerned about getting "good marks" that they forget the purpose of school is to learn, not to impress, show off, or beat everybody else. What's really the point in excelling on a subject you genuinely do not have an interest in?

Very well put. And you speak so well and confidently in front of your audience. You are able to distinguish subtle concepts and express them so well. You are the product of this flawed system. Want you to think of that too. So the system is not that flawed. It does work, just needs tweaking. Give it a thought.
