lovely video of so many varieties of encyclias. Wellington Garden Club, West Palm Beach, Florida had a green market a few months back. They gave away seedlings of the native Tampensis so I mounted the little plant to a piece of pottery. It took and the roots are growing nicely. The footage around the outside of your home shows viewers just how nature makes possibilities happen. Thank you and keep those videos coming. Respectfully,

You can buy these from Palmer Orchids, but they are pick-up only. They aren't listed on the online website.

I love all those wild growing tampensis! How cold tolerant are they?

They will theoretically tolerate sub-freezing temps for a few hours if protected from frost. Best not to risk it but this species grows well up into the counties north of us here in Manatee County, and they receive more sub-freezing nights than us. That being said most wild plants are usually u der dense canopies and protected slightly from frost. I think frost does damage them though. We personally have never taken care to protect them from frost and now that I think about it, I don't reckon I've even seen cold damage on the ones around the house.

Yes, we have or "had" a really large one until about two weeks ago. They grow best mounted or in a terracotta pot with an open mix. We actually noticed our rotting a few weeks ago and it's our own fault for not repotting it soon enough, as it'd been in its media for a couple of years. We may have salvaged a small piece but it grew very nicely for us for many years. Don't overwater or leave it in old media like we did.

Oh my! I love the sprays of flowers on your Encyclias? I have a Lorrie Mortimer that I didn’t realize had bloomed until I was potting it up. It seems my hose head broke the spike? Are they free flowering? Thanks.

Lorrie Mortimer is pretty free flowering but you'll notice more abundance of flowers in the early summer months. Thanks for watching!

I just received a Cyrtopodium from Brazil. Its the one thats used for glue. I understand there is a Florida one thats very similar. My question is what media would you use? Im near Seattle and grow indoors.

Cyrtopodium glutiniferum? I'd suggest a mix with an organic base like coco or peat but add charcoal, perlite, lava rock, and orchid bark. I've never grown Cyrtopodiums inside so my advice is probably a little skewed. If I were you I'd grow it as bright as you can with multiple grow lights up next to the foliage. They like pretty intense light. Best of luck and if you have good results, let us know what you did.

@@IngramOrchidsandMore I used a mix like that but added coarse sand and some shredded peat and a small amount of compost. I've got it under 2 lights that I can adjust the height.

What fertilizer you use

"Palmer Orchids Special Cal-Mag plus Seaweed". It's a 14-2-14 with Kelp, Calcium, and Magnesium added to ensure it has a complete nutrition profile. We use a small amount of "Dynamite Flower and Vegetable" slow-release fertilizer in our pots to supplement the plants if we get lazy with the water-soluble stuff and forget to keep to the schedule.
