Stoves have a feature called a damper. I am not sure you found it. Generally when fire is visually going up the chimney the damper is open. The heat will fly out the chimney.
@wildrvlife5 ай бұрын
Yes! We opened the damper before starting the fire, but didn't film that part. Seemed like it was working as far as we could tell
@gusgus25395 ай бұрын
@@wildrvlife After the fire is going strong you close the damper to stop heat going straight out the flue. Only open it to add wood. It saves your wood supply from burning so fast, and the heat radiates out through the stove. Fuel burns slower and the stove is hotter.

I think every Floridian should visit Canada at least once in their life, not knowing anything about a natural fire place or how to set up a camp stove is just common knowledge for us Canadians. Also if the BBQ lighter runs out of gas you should still be able to use the igniter part to light the stove. Plus you also had matches at your disposal. Looks like you managed to get it figured out regardless.
@wildrvlife5 ай бұрын
Well, it turns out using the same technique we used in our wood burning fireplace that we had in our house in Florida basically worked just as well for a wood burning stove. Granted, we never let our fireplace burn through the night because that isn't really safe 😅 But, we do use BBQs in Florida too, by the way. I (Victoria) don't usually, but it's ok, that's why I've got Craig lol
