There is a celebration in Germany before a wedding. It's called "Polterabend" (translated: shattering evening) and people come and bring there old/unused pottery and porcelain and shatter it on the ground for good luck for the couple and an good marriage. Usually random people out of the village come to this celebration and bring random stuff (some people like to joke and bring toilettes or spmething like that) A fun evening of shattering pottery, drinking, talking and watching the couple clean the shards up.

Some snakes can also reproduce via parthenogenesis. I have read that can happen with hognoses. I was learning german at the beginning of what I would call the LGBTQ rights movement, and I think the gendered everything actually helped a lot when several of my friends came out as trans, nonbinary, or genderfluid. Actually! “Voodoo/Hoodoo Dolls” (Which are usually referred to as Doll Babies or Sack Dolls in those practices I believe) or Poppets in general practices were used a lot more for healing and comfort than they were ever used for hexing/cursing/etc. Not saying they can’t be or aren’t used in that way, but the most common practice is to make a poppet of yourself and to treat it nicely/give it nice things as a way to draw fortune your direction. The second most common practice is making poppets/dolls of your own children or loved ones and treating them kindly to provide comfort, especially when you can’t be with them in person. I think it’s super sweet! Again it’s not their only use but that was at a time the most popular use of them. Just thought you’d like to know!

Hi. About that shattered tablewear: In Germany we say „Scherben bringen Glück“ (shards bring happiness, but only tablewear) and is‘t a tradition to bless a soon to be married couple during an event before the stag night. To the „Polterabend“ everyone that shows up (it‘s not via invite) brings flowerpot, toiletseats and old tablewear to shatter. The couple has to clean it up and bring it somewhere safe. Shattered Mirrors bring you seven years of bad luck and glass is considered to be luck that should not be destroied.

For those unaware: the number 4 (and 42) is considered unlucky in Japan because it can be pronounced as "shi" (2 is pronounced "ni"), and the characters for "death/dead" are pronounced as "shi" or "shini". This is why you will normally hear 4 pronounced as "yon" instead of "shi". Emily said China, and Japanese is based on Chinese, so I assume Chinese has a similar reason. Also: broken cups/bowls/plates are considered a bad omen in many Asian countries.

hey emily!! a little off topic and totally unsolicited but i think of you tightline your eyes (apply eyeliner under your top lashes) and flick off the end a bit to create a wing, it would really brighten your eyes while applying a little less eyeliner on your bottom lashes!!! once you get the hang of it, it's really fast and easy to do ~ but ofc that's up to you i just thought i'd suggest something to try ^^

I'm so excited for hatching season, because it's how I got into this channel last year. I remember being so excited about the mystery of which morphe every egg would be and I want to relieve those memories so badly

just a small funny fyi: in the Netherlands broken porcelain and glas are actually considered lucky. Scherven brengen geluk hier(it used to be that people thought that breaking stuff would scare away demons)! edit: grammar

Fun fact: In japan black cats are considered lucky! The number 4 is also considered unlucky there because it can be pronounced the same way as death (Shi).

There's a legend that when all the ravens leave the tower of London then England will fall. They love their ravens. I've never heard the broken cup one!

To me black cats are good luck. My grandma had one. Which is why I always look forward to Black Cat Appreciation day.

In the Netherlands 🇳🇱, if we break something like a vase or something. We always say: Scherven brengen geluk 🍀 What translates to: the shards bring luck to the person that broke it.

I knew what the theme was gonna be but one idea to add to the list would be donuts! 13 is a baker's dozen so all kinds of donuts or baked goods could be cute!

The number 4 isn’t just unlucky in China. It’s actually kind of more global than that because it’s supposed to be the number of times Death knocks on your door when he comes for your soul. In Japanese the number is “Shi”, but so is Death, even though they are represented by different characters if I remember correctly (be kind to me, I took my Japanese classes years ago and haven’t spoken it since-) On top of that, Beethoven’s 5th Symphony is apparently based off of an event where he thought he heard Death knocking on his door. The beginning notes that repeat throughout the song you can count out one, two, three, four…. one, two, three, four… and then the quieter kind of hurried notes between were supposed to symbolize hiding from this imposing death character.

it seems so funny.. in germany breaking porcelan is known as a lucky sign. Its also a tradition for Weddings. We call it "Polterabend" and you meet the evening bevor the wedding and smash a ton of porcelan, to bring Luck for the wedded cupple.

The number 4 is also considered unlucky in Japan, because Japanese has TONS of puns due to so many sound-alike words (like pear and pair in English)-- the language only has one ending consonant, "n", so it limits the word-sounds. Anyway, 4 is 'shi', which also is the same word for "death"; it's such a strong, old superstition that when you're counting living things you never use shi, you use 'yon' or another number-name. I don't know if it's still so, but hospitals also used to use the fourth room for storage instead of making it a patient room or they'd just skip it altogether. Eh; it's no sillier than our #13 being considered unlucky. Hatch well, little eggs!
