Most likely I wouldn't have been brave enough to do this if I hadn't been homeschooled, but because I experienced it and I knew what was involved (as best I could from childhood memories) 😆I wasn't too worried about exploring it and like I said we are taking it a year at a time! Yeah I really wanted the kids to learn cursive. I learned it around 3rd grade or so and HATED it because I already knew manuscript so I didn't see the point to learning cursive so I wanted to start the kids out in it right away and so far they are doing great with it! 😊

Absolutely! I don't know that much about The good and the beautiful but yes, Abeka is a VERY heavy curriculum. That's usually the biggest issue that I hear parents have with it and a lot of people will skip the extra work if it's an area that their kiddo is doing well in.

Wow! I love this video! Such an encouragement for us homeschoolers :) We do ABeka as well and absolutely love it! We don't do their videos yet, just parent led for now. We have 2 kids over halfway through 3rd grade and the youngest just starting today with 2nd! I'm pretty sure we're behind in reading with the youngest, but he'll catch up I have no doubt :) Because homeschooling is so flexible, we like to do it Tuesday through Saturday and on days we know we want to take off, we'll do school in the morning and again in the evening to make a double day. We like to save those up in case Dad has a day off we don't know about yet :D It makes for a more structured day on these cold nasty days we are stuck inside anyways ;)

Hello Amy! I'm so glad you enjoyed this 💕That's awesome that you are looking into education options for your little one, yes you have lots of time to prepare 😊I have heard a lot of good things about The Good and the Beautiful, there are some other homeschool moms who use it and have done videos reviewing the curriculum. They are "Angela Braniff" "Grace and Grit" and "Mrs. Farrington" You might find those helpful. Abeka is great and we are loving it but it can be a bit pricey. I do know there are lot of curriculum options online as well! and you could probably find a homeschool Facebook group in your area that may have support and suggestions as well 💚
@alt0415 жыл бұрын
Amanda Sandefur Thank you so much for all your help. I’m going to look into them places you named off. So do your kiddos do homeschool full time at home, I know you can do part time at school and part time at home? Like how would test, finals sports etc. come into play?
@AmandaSandefur5 жыл бұрын
We do homeschool full-time, our kiddos have never been in public school. The curriculum that we use has the option to be accredited or fully parent led. Tests and quizzes are included and you can either send the kids' work off to the academy and they will grade and keep records of your kids' academics or you as the parent can keep the records. We are doing parent-led right now but if we continue to homeschool into the Jr. High and High School grades I will have the kids accredited and the academy will keep official grades (it isn't required until HS) For sports and extra curricular activities it's usually all private. So our kiddos have done soccer and softball/tee-ball through the local parks and recs departments and things like music lessons would all be private. My eldest daughter has also done dance and gymnastics in the past and currently she and my eldest son are enrolled in a "ninja training" gym class once a week :)

Love this video! Really motivates me to homeschool as well! I know the benefits are out of this world. How did you do when your littlest was a newborn?
@AmandaSandefur6 жыл бұрын
I was blessed with very easy babies, my kids get challenging at about 15months+ so I'm entering the challenging times with Avileigh 😬As far as getting it all done with a newborn I found that keeping the kids on a routine helped a lot, it gave structure to the days and I could give the kids longer breaks as needed. Flexibility in your days is a huge thing, that's why I love the "freeform schedule" way of doing things. I follow a general outline for the day but we aren't scheduled out every hour or half hour 💜
@Jeannineross6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I’m the same with the difficult stage right now except mine have been around 20 months. I’m just thinking ahead since we’re going for that baby number four. I’ll have to look more into the free scheduling. I currently schedule my day by half hour and blocks so that seems to help now, but I really do think about all the benefits of homeschooling compared to public schools.

@AmandaSandefur6 жыл бұрын
Hi there! How exciting, homeschool is a lot but it's so worth it 😊The length of the lessons varies depending on the subject and the age of the child but for my Kindergartener we usually get his done in a 3-4 hour period depending on how many breaks he takes. For my 2nd grader its more like 4 hours or a bit more also depending on breaks.

Is religion mentioned in the rest of the curriculum (like in the main subjects) or is it separate where a secular homeschooler could still use it?
@AmandaSandefur5 жыл бұрын
It is integrated throughout but not in a huge way. The science curriculum teaches from a biblical perspective of course but with things like Phonics and Language or Arithmetic is might just have a small bible verse printed at the bottom of the page.

I don't wanna criticize with my question, but how does homeschool affect their social life? As they don't go to school, interacting with other kids becomes more difficult for
