For those who didn’t know, on the 18th and 19th of January, we attended Railway Direction Days, an excellent railway conference in the organization of CPK, a Polish state agency in charge of delivering the STH project.
Upon receiving the invitation from CPK, we decided to go there by train via Budapest and Vienna, with the idea to share with you our impressions, in something that should look like our first vlog or trip report. We hope that turned out successfully and if you didn't, please, check out our Trip report video first.
It covers a part of the story from our departure from Belgrade via a van, train ride from Budapest Keleti to Wienna Hbf, then from Vienna to Warsaw in a sleeper berth, tours around and inside the stations of Budapest and Vienna, and finally our arrival in Warsaw.
In this video that covers two days of the Railway Direction Days conference, we tried to share with you many interesting railway stories that we've heard there and our impressions of the conference, also we spoke about the CPK agency and STH project, showed the first exclusive interview that CPK’s CEO gave for Railways Explained, some details about one of the panel discussions that we moderated, and many others.
Nonetheless, in this video, we also talked about our visit to the Technical Museum in Warsaw, the Warsaw itself, some great friends we've made, and of course some great food in this beautiful city.
We hope you'll enjoy it!

Excellent video report. Warsaw is an incredible city and it's great to see it's taking things to another level with CPK. Also it's great to see that Rail Baltica got substantial amount of attention in the conference. This will be a complete game changer and transform how people travel in the region.

Thanks for coming to Warsaw! Opinions are divided on the CPK project in Poland - some see it merely as the current government's form of defrauding public money - but with passing time I begin to see its perspectives for the future. I hope you come back some day - I'd love to watch your take on Warsaw's metro, tram and urban rail system, especially considering the recent announcement of 5 metro lines to be developed in the capital :)

Good project leadership counts for a lot. The interview with CPK's project leader showed a shrewd man with weighted speaking skills. That's quite an important virtue, especially in big project management. It likely won't be smooth (it never is ^^) - but the foundations seem decent, at least so far. 👍 Love & Greetings, from Slovenia ❤

I hope they are investing enough in integration of this network with the network of western Europe. That's very important for the continent I think. For the rest it is a good plan to invest in high speed railways!

this project excites me (what projects don't) but i speak on it all the time because within a decade Poland's status has totally changed and i think its this project that really has other European countries wanting to join the E.U. It is a statement that joining the E.U. can totally change the course of a nation from a downward or level trajectory to one that look a lot brighter, and the change can happen on a grand scale at a fast pace.

As a Czech citizen, I don't want to spoil their optimism, but we know how it works here, and they have to add a special delay factor to every project involving the Czech Republic. It's going to sound strange, but if they want a fast connection between Warsaw and Budapest, a line across/under the Tatras via Slovakia may be in service sooner than the Czech alternative.
@CreatorPolar
@CreatorPolar Жыл бұрын
Yeah don’t count on the Warsaw-Budapest via the Tatras being built as well. It literally took us 10 years to dig a highway tunnel (tunnel Višňová) and given how railway projects take forever here it would probably take 50 years

@@vasquen if you consider 200km/h lines as high speed (I personally do) then yes, they’re modernizing most of their main network for high speed rail
@Dqtube

@@vasquen Let's put it this way for at least 25 years maybe a lit more we are in the planning stage. According to plans from the late 90's, at least one line could already be in operation. In reality nothing has been built and maybe in the second half of this decade some project will finally be implemented with service in the 30's. For example, the line between Prague and Berlin via Dresden is scheduled to be open in 2045.

If you could touch on to all trains using an EU wide metro card and the entire network was standardised, it's amazing to think about what might be possible. It's amazing how close some European cities are to each other (e.g. Vienna-Bratislava) - imagine if they functioned as twin cities. Especially with European cities already having good pedestrian and public transport infrastructure.

Love this, i am very optimistic. If i wasn't saving for a house, i'd gladly invest in this kind of thing. I hope Zagreb to Graz, also gets included into this highspeed network 😊

A glaring omission, in my opinion, is a 35 km extension of the CMK railway north to Nowy Dwor Mazowiecki (actually envisioned when the former line was built), which would permit travel of select trains from Tricity directly to the south of Poland in 3.5 hours. I agree that 250 km/h is fast enough for domestic connections, and is much less expensive to build than 300 km/h+ rail lines.
@Festucius
@Festucius Жыл бұрын
I think it's going to be used mostly for Tricity-CPK and to change Tricity-Warsaw route to enter the city from the West rather than East, as currently. Apart from freight trains, I don't think we'll see many Tricity-South trains circumventing Warsaw. Too many passengers left out for too little gain.

It seems that you made more detailed video from your home in previous video than now, after conference and talking with people for 3 days. If you would make video like before but expanded, updated by new info and added info about other countries of region as well , than you would have great video with tons of views. "New high speed rail system of central europe". Right now I feed that it's kinda missed opportunity

People question whether the airport component of CPK is really necessary. Especially with increased rail travel and Modlin airport already being near what could easily become a future railway junction and having adjacent land to expand. LOT Polish Airlines is planning to phase out most of the domestic flight network long-term; I believe only the Rzeszów-Gdańsk flight is planned to remain.

I support this Baltica Rail project, because the first is for sure the benefits and economic growth between countries, the second is to create jobs. But I am worried about what is happening in Eastern Europe (Russo-Ukrainian War) if the scale expands, the mega project will automatically disappear.
@jan-lukas

It is an important strategic project as well, because connections to Russia are weakened while cross connection and connection to Europe will be faster. Trains are the best option to move many troops quickly even in this Era

8:55 - "Connecting Poland's largest cities" .... but we are not planning an HSR line that did not run through CPK such as: -Wroclaw-Opole-Katowice-Krakow - 4 provincial capitals with a total population of 5 million people - 12.5% of Poland's population - the existing rail line is 264 km long and the travel time of the entire route is 3:42 h (71 km/h). - Wroclaw-Poznan-Gdansk - 3 provincial capitals with a total population of 3 million people - 7.5% of Poland's population - the existing rail line has 478 km, and the travel time is 5h (96 km/h). At 17:45 we can see both corridors. Except for Opole, all 5 cities/agglomerations are in the top7 in Poland according to populations.
@countdown4725
@countdown4725 Жыл бұрын
I can understand why the Polish Government decided to focus on the proposed HSR lines. It is to connect the cities from the former German Empire territory (Wroclaw/Poznan) with those in former Russian Empire territory (Lodz, Warsaw), which are still poorly connected to this day due to the partitions of Poland. A fast connection from Warsaw-Lodz-Poznan/Wroclaw gives more benefit over the current situation than new HSR lines for Wroclaw-Opole-Katowice-Krakow or Wroclaw-Poznan-Gdansk, which are right now better connected, although the lines should be upgraded to decrease travel times (as well as international connections to Germany.
@Khneefer
@Khneefer Жыл бұрын
@@countdown4725 Wroclaw-Czestochowa-Warsaw has a length of 422 km and a travel time of 4h -> 105 km/h-a higher average speed than the two connections I indicated earlier. Poznań-Warsaw has a length of 301 km and a travel time of 3h -> 100 km/h- higher average speed than the two connections I indicated earlier. Lodz-Warsaw has a length of 131 km and a travel time of 1:30 h -> 87 km/h still better than Wroclaw-Kraków. The core of the Katowice/Upper Silesia metropolitan area has +/- the same population as Warsaw. Kraków and Wrocław are the 2nd and 3rd largest cities in Poland. This does not add up. I'm not saying that these connections are not needed, but the current CPK plans are mostly pointless. Poland needs HSR NETWORK, which is based on metropolitan areas of 500k+. What is proposed is not a network, but the spokes of the wheel as the authors of the project themselves call it.

I see Poland following in the steps of Spain, creating a radial HSR network that focus on the capital, which is not bad, but begs to question what are the real priorities at play
@Khneefer
@Khneefer Жыл бұрын
@@vasquenThe real priority is to show the public a big government project. The previous one was the Polish electric car, which turned out to be a failure, and the Vistula Spit Crossing, which has been realized, but is mainly a propaganda success. Now there is the CPK airport and the high-speed rail "network."

The biggest problem right now are the lack of nonstop express trains and truly ancient locomotives from the 1960s which are only capable of 125 km/h, even where the infrastructure is capable of 160 km/h. Fortunately, there are plans to fix the latter.
