Great job and it seems someone was watching over you. That structural damage was probably there before the minor parking lot hit. Someone hit it and saved you. Unfortunately, it’s hard to ever know what lurks behind the fenders and bumper covers. Nowadays a lot of people will repair cars out of pocket to avoid an insurance claim. This means no carfax disclosure. I use to buy from auctions for many years and sell cars. Overall I did well because I have an extensive mechanical background. But I did get burned a few times because some people suck and will really dummy cars up to push them through auctions. Glad you got out of that one.

I bought a car from a dealer that was hit and run before I signed for it. Luckily we went to look at it prior and the bumper was missing paint. They made it right and eventually took delivery of it. No one owned up to it in the dealer although they had cameras and I am sure eventually figured out who hit it.

@oleradiodudea.m.47352 жыл бұрын
I guess that's why most dealers allow prospective buyers to pay an independent mechanic to evaluate the car they are considering purchasing. It's just like having a house inspected before purchase. Some folks just want to roll the dice because it's cheap and then cry, moan, groan, gripe and whine afterward playing the victim role.
@Nickkkk8382 жыл бұрын
The funniest part about this whole thing is that just last year, Chevy Dude's dealership he was at crashed a customer's brand new C8, and they wouldn't take it back. They insisted on fixing it, and then not reporting it on the vehicle history report (Carfax, etc). And now, a year later, a vehicle that Chevy Dude buys gets hit, and he and his wife were demanding that the auction house take it back. Funny how he flip flops when the shoe is on the other foot.

Mike I think the most important thing to know about auctions is if it’s red light lane once the hammer drops you own it with all the problems there is no arbitration. The rule to remember is if another used car dealer is sending a vehicle that should be sold on their lot to auction you don’t want it. The best thing to do is get to know used car managers at the good dealers and see if you can buy the cars they will be sending to auction. You should be buying cars from your old job but I have not seen you buying any from them so far. Also stay away from lease returns or bank repos unless there are service records for oil changes. Lease owners tend to not change oil like they should and repos can seem like a good deal but more than likely there was a reason that person stopped paying for that car and most of the time it’s car related.
@marialilahl32172 жыл бұрын
This was the BEST comment and truth I've read in KZbin's existence !!!! RED Light means it's YOURS. I will NOT buy a car from a used car dealer at auction. Bank repo - NEVER touch. Lease vehicle - maintenance records a MUST.

Also if there are road closures you will get billed by the fire department if they respond ie. gas damage. Also by the police department if for road closures paying for all their services, so it can all add up quickly for making not making a simple 811 phone call & requesting the area to be marked.

CarFax is a joke and waste of money. It just means there were no Recorded Accidents. If your drunk son or buzzed out wife hit a wall and you paid off someone to patch it so you could trade it in....you're going to have a good CarFax. My CarFax said the 2017 Subaru was one owner, never in an accident. Had excellent oil change records and lived in the South (no Yankee rust). After shopping six months in today's market, this was a gem. Drove it home, took some pictures, thrilled with the purchase. A few days later, the county started extensive road repairs, and my car started falling apart. The fender flapped in the wind, the back exterior had small but severe cracks. Had to lay on the ground, but noticed lower bumper parts were actually missing. What did I hit? Who hit me? I dug out my photos, did some zooming and guess what? I bought it like that. The salesman conveniently stood in front of the cracked plastic spots and figured I wouldn't get on the pavement to look underneath. For those of us who don't have Mannheim to whine at, it's our car. As-is.

Dude, seriously. While the Tube may be interesting to many of us, one more auto-guy-at-auction site isn't going to raise hackles with a mega-mill company like Mannheim. What would you think is best to do in this scenario given the current market situation?
@trbstang2 жыл бұрын
Since you are fighting your insurance company I assume, generally they don't pay for diminished value claims, but since it was stolen, you might have a chance. Your car's value is certainly less with an accident on the record and there are auto appraisers that specialize in diminished value. I was checking on them several years ago before my car was eventually totaled, and I just googled it. Yes, it does cost a few hundred dollars, but if you get an additional $1,500-2,000 from the claim, it's worth it. But then again, your insurance will likely say it is comprehensive coverage paying for it, like if a tree fell on it, so there might not be a case. Talking to the appraiser would be good to do. Good luck!
@oleradiodudea.m.47352 жыл бұрын
In the future you might consider buying either gap insurance from the selling dealer or online. I switched to an auto insurer that builds it right into my auto policy. A truck creamed me three year ago and I was VERY happy with my insurer's payout. Just an idea.
@trbstang2 жыл бұрын
@@oleradiodudea.m.4735 GAP only works if the car is totaled and you owe more than the car is worth. It sounds like in this case the car is being repaired, so GAP would not help. I had GAP when my car was totaled since I paid zero down and financed all taxes, warranty and fees at 0.9%, and my final insurance payout was $25 less than my loan payoff on a year old car. Needless to say, I didn't use the GAP coverage and instead got a $250 refund for cancelling it!
@oleradiodudea.m.47352 жыл бұрын
Thank you for those comments. I think you might check with Selective or American Family if they are in your area. I believe both offer what I mentioned thought I might be wrong. No car is ever 100% after an accident though. :(
@trbstang2 жыл бұрын
@@oleradiodudea.m.4735 I've heard of both of them and that's pretty good if they can bundle it with regular insurance. My insurance company, State Farm, used to offer it but now they only do if it is financed by them also. I ran the numbers (accountant here) and their financing rate made it more expensive to me. My credit union also offers it really cheap, but again, they couldn't match the 0.9% promo rate. And yes, no car is 100% after an accident, but in my case I bought it back and had it repaired for $15,000 less than insurance paid on it for the total loss. Getting a $35k vehicle for about $20k is definitely worth a few little issues to me! Almost 5 years since the accident and only a few chips in the paint and a tiny bit of peeling clear coat. I have videos of it on my KZbin page.
