Have you considered employing a doula to support you through this process? They can advocate for you and the choice you have made to have a natural birth. I love watching you two on video! I have had 3 kids naturally and had my third when I was 42. You are definitely at a good age for kids. I heard and tried this, but prop your hips up right after on a pillow or two and lay in that position for 30 minutes or so. I wish you much happiness in your motherhood journey!

Giving birth under good conditions (meaning your not in any danger or you need a c section) is the best thing to experience in my opinion. After two kids i kind of wanting to experience ut again, its terrifying and so beautiful at the same time. And i gave never felt atringer and more powerful in my entire life.

I totally understand your point about hospitals and women believing in their own bodies, I'm a nursing student and over the years they taught us different ways of giving birth. Here in Spain mothers choose more and more to give birth in water. There are some hospitals specialised in that technique, worth giving it a read if you're interested! I had a natural unmedicated birth in a birth center (not hospital). I didn’t do any coached pushing and only pushed when my body wanted to. I’m a smallish woman, my baby came out almost 10lb and I didn’t tear at all! I would highly recommend finding a facility that you feel comfortable in, it makes a huge difference for sure.

I guess I just thought it’s part of the process and millions of women around the world have done it and I can do it too. 😂 It was painful but honestly the second the baby comes out the pain is gone. Good luck in your journey! I love our country and the birth process in the US. We have our husband/ partner with us through the whole birthing process … natural or c-section. My husband was able to cut the babies cord with all 5 of our kids. Plus, we keep our babies with us since the minute they are born until we leave the hospital. Bonding is important!

This is the trick that my OB/GYN told me that got me pregnant within a month after months of trying (of course, it could've just been a coincidence but who knows!)--not to track ovulation or an active week, but just to relax & be intimate with my partner as soon as my period would end, every two days until the next period.

Personally, since I have endometriosis and vulvodynia, I would definitely choose c section over natural birth if I ever have a baby. I like how you and Jake are so open about this journey and Jake's straightforwardness makes me laugh😆 3 kids...that's a lot of work! I always admire my mom who had twins (me and my older sister) and my younger sister by 2 years; so not a big age gap. I hear from her sometimes about how difficult it was to raise 3 young children at once and, I can imagine we weren't easy kids. I work in education (partly because I like working with kids) and deal with difficult teenagers on a daily basis but I don't think I feel ready for my own children. so, multilingual kids, you've gotta have a LOT of patience, and don't get scare if they don't start talking at the "normal rate", they might not start talking till 3 or 4 years old. and this is completely normal, there is no learning disability there, no autism or whatever. It just takes a bit longer for their brain to process everything.The youtube family where the dad is Korean and the mom is German, and their daughter is named Roa I think, even though they had gone to a specialist that said she would be starting to speak late, many people scared them into thinking their daughter was on the autism spectrum, so much so they took their daughter to an autism specialist and the specialist confirmed what the previous doctor told them that it was just because she was learning 2 languages at the same time. Second language acquisition linguists have documented this well already, they have stats on it. But usually when they do start speaking, their level is usually higher in each language than other kids their age that only speak one language. But in order for that to happen too, each parent really really needs to have the discipline to stick with it and insist that the kid respond in the target language. If you're staying long term in Korea, you won't need to worry too much about the Korean, and English will be easier for them because that's the common language you both speak, so really it's the Danish that you really need to push.

I had a baby in Korea just last year! My experience was very different as she was born on the military base. However, I’m really familiar with options there because we were instructed to find a backup hospital to give birth at just in case, and many women in our community elected to have their babies elsewhere because they wanted a more natural approach. Many women recommended Houm birthing center in Seoul. They have everything you could want for a natural birth, as well as the ability to provide medical intervention if that becomes necessary.

I had a water birth in South Korea. The name of the birthing center is GM Cheil Birthing Center. It is in 광명 and cheaper than the birthing centers in 강남. They have an English speaking midwife. I highly recommend it. My birth was all natural without interventions. Baby stayed with me at all times from right after birth until we left the hospital which is not common in Korean hospitals.

I'm not planning on having kids but if I did that sounds terrifying, there can be so many accidents if you're not conscious!!! My mom had all of us 5 kids naturally through vaginal delivery with no complications so it's definitely possible! She had me, the eldest, at 30 and the youngest at 38!

It's really good to hear your talk about all this. Honestly, I feel like a lot of people in their 20s are frightened of birth. I keep hearing "I don't want to do 'THAT' to my body," when literally the vast majority of female bodies have the mechanisms, muscles, hormones, ancestral and genetic knowledge to build, grow and deliver the baby. You're not doing anything 'to' your body. The body is built for the task of doing it. Your body does it naturally, instinctively. So, I found your thoughts and perspective very refreshing! Since you are a researcher/planner, you probably already know all this, but I'll throw my two cents in anyways about what helped me have a natural birth with my son almost 7 years ago. Feel free to ignore. ☺1. I highly recommend watching a ton of youtube videos and finding birth positive instagram accounts and watching a lot of different kinds of births. This reallly helped me understand what happens in a lot of births 2. FIND A DOULA. No joke this is probably the main thing that will help you and Jake really make a natural birth happen. Seriously, having a 3rd party solely focused on supporting you (bc at a certain point you will be lost to the world and deep in labor land) and supporting Jake was priceless to me. I didn't give birth in Korea, but i know English speaking ones exist there. It is so so so worth the money. 3. BOOKS! Here are the ones that really helped me the most: INA MAY'S GUIDE TO CHILDBIRTH, SPIRITUAL MIDWIFERY (also by Ina May Gaskin), BIRTHING FROM WITHIN by Pam England, and CHILD BIRTH WITHOUT FEAR by Grantly Dick-Read. I read others, but these were the most helpful for me. I would also say if you have access to a class you and Jake can do, definitely take the opportunity. Birth never goes how you expect it, but it is helpful as a part of the mental and emotional process to do stuff together as a couple. We did a class on the Bradley Method and even though we only used a fraction of the tactics taught in the class, it really gave my husband space to begin thinking about what was going to happen to my body, which I think really helped. And it gave him more of the practical info so he was more prepared for the experience of me being in physical pain, which is difficult for a lot of men. 4. Honestly, in the end, breastfeeding ended up being more difficult for me than birthing (and kind of more rewarding, too? maybe?). I think I'll save the breastfeeding advice for a later date, tho! I'll post it on the future video you'll make when you're preparing for your baby to arrive.🤗 Lastly, I'll say this regarding conceiving...It took my husband 15 months to conceive. We were older than you (31-32 years old at the time), but healthy and totally 'fine' and in great shape. I know food is a very personal thing, and there is no magic bullet, but I will say that when I switched away from vegan/vegetarian eating (heavy plant based) I began to feel much better, so much more energy and then a few months later, we conceived. I basically focused on high-quality bone broth, red meat, oily fish, whole milk, TONS of eggs and good cheese and also high quality beef liver (one of the best things for folate--almost nothing is better as far as being nutritionally dense). I think one of the major benefits of switching my diet up was that the nutrition in these foods are super bio-available...I could tell after a while that my body was able to better extract the nutrition from these foods, instead of struggling to get it from fruits and veggies and fighting through all the non-digestible fiber all the time. The nutrition is there in these foods, but plants make it difficult for our bodies to get at. I still ate fruits and veggies, but balanced it more toward the meat, eggs, etc and felt much better for it in the end. (Which was absolutely shocking to me at the time.) This book was super helpful (I still sometimes read through it), and it may be interesting to you, even though you aren't over 30: HOW TO CONCEIVE NATURALLY by Christa Orecchio. I've also heard a lot of good things about IT STARTS WITH THE EGG by Rebecca Fett, but have never read that one myself. Anyway, thanks for allowing me my little soap-box (or rather my humbly suggested ideas). Conception, pregnancy, birth, baby feeding, motherhood, parenting, all these things are so personal. And you and Jake will make your own way. But I love that you are gathering a bunch of ideas and ways and stories and then make an informed (rather than fear-based or ignorance-based) decision about what you will try. Good luck and I am loving following your journey! PS: my last little thing is that for normal pregnancies, midwifery care (even in a hospital setting) is usually best. If you can find a midwife there, or a natural birthing center, it is totally worth it! But I'm not sure what the availability of this is in Korea, so didn't want to make a big thing about it.

cute! you guys seem even closer. one thing i wanted to say about the multi-language is that they advise sticking to one as the main language in the first years as this often causes the children to be slow(er) learners, i used to look after a little boy who spoke Italian with his mum, Spanish with his dad and English with me and i noticed that it wasn't helping his understanding and learning at all. also super crazy about the C sections there, i imagine because Korean women are so petit that its a lot harder for them to give birth

That’s definitely something to research! I heard so many contradicting things on this topic .. 💚 and it’s not because they’re more petite, the babies are also smaller, so it’s not an issue at all with that 💚

I am now just 60y old.(young) When I was 21y I got married and I became pregnant at 23y. It was totally normal in those days i.e. beginning of the 80’s. All of my friends got married after being together for about 3 years. Then when you were about 2 years married you started to work on a baby. So I became a mom at 24y. In the beginning years of our relationship I didn’t think about babies at all and we even did not talk about it. Then after the 2 years of marriage, I suddenly got the baby feeling and wanted a baby so badly. We agreed on it directly and I got pregnant within 3 months. Being a young mommy was totally fantastic!! Then, about the tearing during giving birth….In my country the doctors do an episiotomy when they see that there is a possibility of tearing. Tearing can go the wrong way. When they cut it will be done at the safest place so that no essential parts are getting damaged. About being afraid for giving birth and experiencing a lot of pain.. I wasn’t afraid at all and did not focus on the stories of friends who already became a mommy. Every body is different and every person too! We all experience things in our own way. f.e. the pain that I feel and can’t coop with, can be not bad at all for you. So I suggest that you don’t worry and just wait and see. Everything will be ok! And most importantly….one minute after you gave birth, you already forgot the pain because you have the most precious gift of your life! 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡

Thank you for sharing! My wife and I are an international couple as well…she is Mexican with Portuguese ancestry and I am Vietnamese. We had challenges getting pregnant but we didn’t stress about when we were first married then of course when we least expected it my wife got pregnant. Then a few years after our first child we wanted a second child but had difficulty and we were tested and really nothing came out of that so we kind of stopped stressing about it and figured that we were fine with one child then of course we got pregnant again. We have seen this happen with friends and family. Pregnancy happens when you stop stressing about it.

@sissel I had my first daughter Hope aged 24, that was 27 years ago this summer, she was born by c section a very difficult pregnancy and she was born very early hence her beautiful name, i went on to have 3 more children ,2 boys and another girl all born by c sections all planned bar one emergency one where my other daughter decided to come 7 weeks early in the middle of the night but again I was awake, the boys were both also born early. My children are aged now between 20 and 27 and the recovery from c sections is not easy( cant imagine choosing to have one for absolutely no reason!), in my case I had no choice as I had very difficult pregnancies. But despite my babies being early i still expressed breast milk( which was given to them via a tube into their tummys), I still spent as much time with them bonding with them and they all grew thankfully into fantastic , wonderful healthy adults. Everyones pregnancy and birth experience is different ( and you have a wonderfully refreshing attitude about this hence why i love following you), i had my first two children in the UK and the other two in Ireland where my Husband and I have lived for many years and europeans no doubt have very different birth experiences to some Asian countries ,( we dont have the post birth centres you seem to have, which after baby number 1,2, 3 and definitely 4 would have been heavenly!!). ❤❤

Hey Sissel, I’m following u for years and the funny thing is u started ur pregnancy journey at the same time as me 😊 I feel it’s kinda difficult nowadays to get pregnant or at least get an successful pregnancy. I feel like the topic around pregnancy involves so much thoughts and plannings and worries. My 3 sisters and me were all born at home in the presence of 1-2 midwives (friends of my mother, then becoming our godmothers), with the youngest being born in the water. ☺️ If I ever get kids, I think I would try home-birthing as well. Probably a sacred experience. Sweet to see you're on a similar track with naturalness.💚

I’m usually not one to share my personal opinions but just a suggestion for thought. In terms of how many kids to have, sibling birth order is actually something that drastically affects kids’ mental health and parents often don’t consider this. I think it’s great that Jake shared his experience as an only child because statistically only-children are the #2 birth order type to feel the effects mentally on their sibling situation if that makes sense. However, the #1 birth order that is at risk of experiencing lifelong mental impacts is a middle child of three specifically (something to do with more than three kids and the impact isn’t as heavy). Just food for thought as mental health issues continue to increase for younger generations in today’s society 💗

Definitely not Korean school, we both strongly agree on that. So international it is, at least while we are here in Korea. For Denmark we don’t really know, it depends on their language abilities. If they lack in Danish we’ll get them into a Danish school I suppose - but again we haven’t really thought about that step 💚

My mom got pregnant towards the end of her studies and she said it was the best thing ever. It was so much easier being pregnant with me than with my sister who she had when working 💚 that was just her experience though !

I heard the birthing part, pain is mostly from how you feel about it. It is more mental than physical. I decided to sign up for a birthing class without medication. Also, sometimes using multiple langauges can lead to delays in speech. But with speech therapy, it can go well. I decided I wouldn't have more than 2 because child-rearing when you are out-numbered is hard. But definitely have more than one and close in age too. I heard the government in Korea helps pay for baby care and mommy care nanny for the first few weeks after birth. The familiy would just pay a small amount.
