Episode 878 | Filmed March 2023 | #Tokyo - Kuwazu, #Japan #train #cathotel #japanesecherryblossoms
We traveled on the beautiful #SaphirOdoriko train from Tokyo to Kuwazu to see the famous Japanese cherry blossoms freshly bloomed! It was our favorite train of the trip, and totally worth seeing the gorgeous blooms in real life! Then we decided to sleep at a cat hotel, which turned out to be a hilarious experience and way less romantic than expected haha. Hope you enjoy our last episode of this Japan series :)

Who are Kara and Nate?!
Watch our documentary here: • 100th COUNTRY DOCUMENTARY
Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married 2013 and were super “normal.” I was a teacher and Nate started a small printing business from the spare bedroom of our apartment.
We discovered the world of “travel hacking” while planning our honeymoon & became addicted ;)
So after 2 years of obsessively saving $35k and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016 for a “one year” trip around the world.
Our goal was to see as many places as possible before we ran out of money and went back home to “normal life.” We started this travel vlog to share our experiences with friends and family, but quickly fell in love with living on the road and found a new passion for capturing our travels through video. So we did everything we could to keep going.
4 years later, we achieved our new goal of visiting 100 countries and all 7 continents. We had no plans to slow down, until 2020 forced us to ;) Which is when we bought a converted van to start exploring our own country for the first time.
After ~2 years of van life, we are back to full time traveling! And now we are finding the best adventures the world has to offer :)
We are incredibly grateful to be able to continue doing something we love every day. 😊🎥🌎 Thank you to everyone who has been a part of our journey!

I'm concerned about those cats! Cats only poop/pee outside of their litter boxes when they are upset....and I'm not surprised. While cat cafes are great ideas, I don't think a cat hotel is. It's too stressful for the cats. But you and Kara were great with them!

I think the owner’s heart is in the right place. I watched another video where the person spoke Japanese and the idea is that people get the experience of taking care of a cat before they commit to buying one and they seemed to take the cat’s welfare seriously. I think these two cats shouldn’t be available for overnight visits though.

This was hilarious. I've had a few cats, and I have never had one that did not instantly learn to use a litter box. It is so strange this hotel has so many issues. edit: for everyone that is saying the cats are stressed, that really makes sense. It is unfortunate they do not create a more comfortable environment for them.

@@SarahMitroff it's not the cat's fault, they're not odd. The problem is cats like routine and being constantly moved to other rooms and seeing new people they'd be a bit stressed. That's why they do weird things like poop on the bed when they're litter trained. I'm sure the hotel staff and guests are very kind but there's probably a reason they don't have more of these around the world.

Yes. You have to carry a small towel (like washcloth size) with you in Japan because many public restrooms don’t have paper towels. And the ones with hand dryers turned them all off to prevent Covid spread.

Japan Business Federation ordered businesses to disable hand dryers out of fear that it spread COVID. However, in April of 2021, the JBF revised their orders and asked business to re-enable the hand dryers. However, there has been ongoing debate in Japan (and elsewhere) if hand dryers spread disease (very few cases of COVID were tracked to hand dryers, so the fear is largely around other diseases.) The current research indicates that hand dryers do no increase bacterial spread but it seems that Japan got used to simply carrying around small hand towels, like they did with carrying around small garbage bags, and so everyone just expects the hand dryers to not always work and businesses have not re-enabled them.

They do. The nice thing about japan is its kind of small. It starts costing a lot to do more advanced trains in usa and people already complaining about loss of natural habitats and people arguing over whos land is whos in usa and its a big place.. it costs a lot more to build an underground bullet train from miami to san antonio. You end up just driving or flying but the planes suck balls man they suck balls we have to admit this. Some jihadi allah akbar suiciding terrorists and some corrupt insiders in our government worked together to do international world financial terror attack robberies to initiate years of never ending wars for profit at tax payer expense invading many small nationd in middle east and ignoring all the big ones looking for osama bin laden who was born in arabia or something like that and their goal was to rob us and usurp the freedom so now we got TSA. Although the trains will be better than planes because there is no tsa of the roads or rails at least until some al qaeda show up with some corrupt government insiders to commit financial terrorism for profit. Then theyll surely attempt to solve the problem by making a tsa of trains, robbing us farther. Tickets with ever rising prices to pay for fancy machines to scan me. and then I wont ride the expensive underground train either so whats the point man? Crap starts becoming a life savings robbery lack of human rights just to ride the train or plane because some dumb al qaeda and shadow people in plain sight wanted the accounting wing of the pentagon to be vaporized as well as the total annialation of the world trade centers even with the people in them on 9/11 2001 in order to get a bunch of stuff financed at the expense of people that never got to vote as well as go to war for decades in the wrong palces as well as trillions of dollars missing etc. Trains are sletchy places sometimes lunatics wait until they know everyone is on the train and cant get off which is when they attack

Those seats in the train only turn because when the train goes the opposite direction, they turn all the seats so you face the direction of the train ride. You are not supposed to be turning around to the person behind you while the train ride is going on 😉😀

Thank you for a very interesting, entertaining and high quality video as always. I have not seen very much of this beautiful and fascinating world and its diverse cultures and people in my life. But since I became aware of your great channel (circa 2020) I follow your travels every time with joy and curiosity. Thank you for the many hours of everyday escape that would be possible through you and that have distracted me and everyone else from the fears and worries of the last three years. I would also like to tell you that you are an absolutely great and exemplary couple who treat each other with consideration and respect every day, but also in a friendly manner. ❤

I love you guys so much! I'm visiting my family in Wisconsin now, but I live in Japan with my husband and daughter. And I have to say 😂, as a foreigner living in Japan I got second hand embarrassed when you were swivelling the train seat 😂 that is only used for turning the seat around to be able to sit face to face with someone you are riding with if there is more than 2 people in your group. The poor woman sitting behind you 😂😂😂😂😂 Anyway! You guys are funny as always and I can't wait to see your next adventures!!!!! Safe travels!!!

Omg this was one of my favorite videos you guys made. I’m a crazy cat lady. I have 4. FYI, I don’t clean their butts when they poop. But they should have warned you that the cats are the boss. So yes. When you asked Ramen if he thought that spot on the bed was his, absolutely he did. In fact he didn’t think that, he KNEW that.😂

Best laughs I've had all weekend! I've had cats all my life and the first rule is No Persians EVER (smashed in nose, long hair). They are the most fussy, independent and ornery felines of all. I think you guys got bamboozled somehow into getting those two brothers. LOL great video and great job!

I live in Japan and it was wonderful to see all the videos of places that I hope to get too! As far as the hand dryers are concerned, yes, they prevented people from using them because the air blasting out of the dryers would spread the virus around. I’m thinking that they’ll probably return to normal here in the next few months or so.

I feel bad for the cats honestly. They shouldn’t be peeing and pooping outside of the litter box. It likely is from the stress of being taken into a new environment all the time. I hope it isn’t worse like a medical issue. This isn’t how cats normally act at all! Great video though. I hope this doesn’t give cats a bad reputation or ruin your experience with them!
