Brr ❄️! We are finally getting some much needed rain. In the low 70's in the day time. Azalea and Cookie will enjoy the barn. They are so adorable. When I was a kid, my dad had cattle and milking cows, and one was a Guernsey. I claimed her as my pretty cow and was so sad when he sold her. Her name was Gurn!

Garlic also flavors the milk. My great aunt always got mad when their milk cow got into wild onions or in to the garlic.

@@LumnahAcres aunt Sadie would got so mad at uncle Georgie when the milk cow got into her garlic that she had dried for winter, the milk had a very strong garlic taste, even her butter she made from that milk tasted like garlic. The national institute of health has an article about cheese making out of milk where cows are fed garlic. Garlic (Allium sativum L.) fed to dairy cows does not modify the cheese-making properties of milk but affects the color, texture, and flavor of ripened cheese The journal of dairy science has this posted in an article. Garlic flavor is present to a very objectionable degree in milk from cows that have consumed one-half pound of garlic 4 hours before milk- ing. Milk drawn 7 hours after the cows consume one-half pound of garlic is practically free from garlic flavor. While you can’t detect the garlic in the milk from you feeding it to your cow, if you made aged cheese, you would know the cow had garlic based off the NIH publication.

Should have been letting your chickens free-range with the cattle. The chickens will spread the cow pies out to get to the fly larvae which will have a 3 fold effect. 1- they'll spread the cow pies, thus fertilizing a larger area of the pasture instead of the immediate "drop zone". 2- chickens eating the larvae are eating natural protein. 3- eating the larvae & other insects will cut back on the feed that you have to BUY for them, saving you money. @@cathiwim Premier One. It will protect the chickens within an area the cattle have recently grazed. Not very useful with snow on the ground though, which is why I said "Should have been".
