Welcome to Our French Chateau!
We are Amanda and Lincoln. With our two daughters and pets in tow, we moved across the world from our home in San Francisco California to buy and restore a petite chateau on 40 acres in the beautiful French countryside of Brittany.
Our channel will document our triumphs and failures in restoring the 19th-century Chateau de Lingourdy. We plan on returning the gardens, cottages and barns back to their former glory (on a tight budget) and opening it up to the public for events and luxurious stays. So if you're interested in observing daily life through the eyes of an American family whose French language skills are quite lacking and who have amassed a menagerie that includes cats, dogs, and donkeys, please join us...

Have you considered using a wall paper liner? It would cover the cracks, dark spots and unevenness much better than a skim coat. I love the wallpaper, by the way!

I procrastinate sometimes and when I finally do the task it is always not the problem I thought it would be. I wonder why I put myself through it all. I read some advice from a high achiever that one should always do what we don't really want to first each day and save the copious amount of time we waste in procrastination and negative self-talk. I usually do so many other things to justify procrastinating that take a long time, make a lot of mess, start to feel overwhelmed. When all is done, I come back to what I was avoiding, it is usually so quick and easy in comparison. Love you colour scheme. Look forward to the ongoing progress. Enjoy.

You two are quite a team- beautifully matched. Both of you easy to work with, and you are equally hard workers. How did you ever pick each other? Most of us learn the flaws in the other after months or years of being married. Neither of you balks at the jobs they are expected to do even if they had never done them before. And how on earth did you decide to take on refurbishing a hundred+ year old chateau with all the work that evolved - room by room, building by building right down to replacing the support beams in the ceiling below. You find some major things that you had’t expected would need to be done before proceeding. You don’t get angry or frustrated with one another. You just figure out how to tackle it. All of these personal characteristics make your life work. How gifted and fortunate you are as a team. I’m amazed at how you two city dwellers are so open to doing such hard work. I am a procrastinator. However, over the years I have come up with a solution for myself so it doesn't hinder/cripple me in the long run. I plan out the process and divvy up the work for each day so in the end I finish on time and don't exhaust myself. It took me years to come up with this approach which is no surprise for a procrastinator. Don't give yourself dead lines, that will only give you an anxiety attack. Think thru the project carefully, plan out each step, knowing that it doesn't have to be all done in a day or even by a certain date. It's the best solution to complete the job and do it well. And one last note, reward yourself at the end of each day with a glass or two of your favorite wine. It's the carrot that will keep you going. Cheers!

Love your channel. Best chateau restoration on You Tube and Ive seen them all. Great content, dry humor, excellent production. consider a bonding coat in lieu of paint prior to wallpapering. At least consult a specialist in the area if there are any. You appear to be doing a great job. Please try and make more videos though. Ive been waiting a long time for this one.

A really good tip when steaming off wallpaer to avoid the gross "Old house smell" the steam brings out, is to add a few drops of essential oil to your steamer! That way it smells lovely as you work! We have an old house and I can't bear the smell that comes out when i have to steam wallpaper off, so i was pleased with myself when i got the idea to add a few drops of my Clary Sage oil to the steamer and then it bwcame an enjoyable task!

Beautiful accessories for the bathroom! If you ever need another antique Italian chandelier , please come to Imperia in Liguria region, an hour or so from Nice, lots of choices in the local antique shops. If I may suggest, try some color with gold undertone ( whiskey , cognac ?) , then the wallpaper will pop. Thank you for posting, always pleasure to see the progress - slowly but surely

You do make me laugh. I love your sense of humour. As a quilter, I love colour, but lucky for me, I make my choice pretty quickly. It's usually the first colour that attracts me. For example, if I am thinking about doing a blue, I will consider several different shades and tones, but usually, it's the first one that catches my eye that I keep coming back to. I think the almond and black will look fabulous with the wallpaper. Lincoln has done such a wonderful job in the bathroom. I like the green, very foresty. And I love the toilet roll holder, towel holder and the lion hooks!!

Ah, MDF baseboards in bathrooms...I have a 100 year old house, old for where I live and we put high density, very similar profiled MDF baseboards everywhere and new plumbing. Years later... a leaking valve behind a toilet, water soaked up into the MDF. I highly recommend to PAINT the under side of your MDF before nailing in! The water soaked up like a sponge into the unpainted underside of the baseboard and swollen MDF is very difficult to recover - it never looks the same again, all lumpy, tried everything I could and it still looks crappy. Not to mention crawling behind a toilet, sanding and painting. I don't think I would use MDF in a bathroom again, using the floor tile is a good option and looks lovely and leak proof, plus holds more water if someone overflows the bathtub or toilet. And I love the wallpaper and the smashing contrast with the dark doors - great pick!

Yes, I’m a procrastinator not proud of it, but it is what it is. I always enjoy no matter how much or how little you get accomplished. Before wallpaper prep the walls as you said, fill then sand then for a perfect finish cross line the walls horizontally with lining paper then hang the finish wallpaper on top 👍

Watch Manor and Maker. They put 3 choices of paint on the wall that they liked and let the viewers chose. It came out very good. A lot of the vloggers do that. I want to be honest with you and say the black doesnt go with everything and chateau owners normally use white on their doors and trim.

You are my favorite chatelaines and I can hardly wait till you put out a video. Note that on some other chateaus, some have used a paper liner on top of the plaster before doing the final paper. I think this has something to do with cold walls releasing paper bonded directly to it. But I am not sure why they use the lining first - maybe to hide the dark patches. Must be some reason they go to the extra work. Might be worth checking before you do your final beautiful salon paper. Keep up the fun work.

Definitely a procrastinator. Some psychologists say it's a good trait, so I've stopped feeling guilty about it. I love the green in your new bathroom, are you able to say what it is? I find it hard to choose colours too, as the light in a particular room in the morning or afternoon can bring out different undertones. I have enough sample pots to paint a room!
