New sub here. Your pantry is amazing! A load of work there. I am truly inspired. I was wondering why you were storing all your FD foods in jars vs mylar. Glad I watched through to the end. Looking forward to watching your previous videos.

Watching your tour with your freeze dried goods makes me want one more than any of the other channels. That's a lot of work but so worth it!

Such a gorgeous pantry you have! I know there is a ton of work behind all of those jars. What a blessing they'll be over the next year. I appreciate that you share the use for many of the things. One of your pantry tour videos from the past gave me so much inspiration when I was shopping for a freeze dryer. Hearing the real-world uses for the different items, like how well the FD onions rehydrate, is so helpful. Thanks for that!

I'm so glad it was helpful!! I'm hoping to make more content on how we use freeze dried foods over the winter!

It really looks amazing 👏 We have been following for a little over two years and the pantry has GROWN! Do you blanch your onions first? What recipes do use your freeze dried onions for?
@gooseberrybridgefarm17 күн бұрын
We do not blanch onions! They are freeze dried raw - we use them in tons of meals - any stir fry, casserole, stew, soup, chili, taco meat etc - they can replace onion powder, dehydrated onions, or fresh onions in recipes - they’re super versatile and we love onions so we add them to pretty much anything!

I have not freeze dried my corn yet! Writing that down for next year's plans. Thanks for the idea! Your pantry shelves are beautiful.

Loved meeting you at the weaver's studio at Foxfire. Enjoyed your pantry tour! How many freeze dryer machines do you have to put up that quantity of food? Amazing!
@gooseberrybridgefarm6 күн бұрын
So good to meet you too! We have 2 freeze dryers, a large and an XL (I did a video comparing the two sizes) we put up almost this much last year with just the large but we had to use a deep freeze to freeze things and hold them and then freeze dry them later

I appreciate you explaining how you use the FD items. I got a freeze drier early summer and still working on learning how to use certain things and what to actually FD over can. It’s certainly a learning experience. Did you blanch the broc before FD it? Coming back to ask are you prepping carrots or sweets before FD in any way? Thanks!
@gooseberrybridgefarm18 күн бұрын
No blanching for broccoli and no prep for sweet potatoes or carrots - the ONLY thing we blanch before freeze drying is regular potatoes and that is just so they don’t turn black/brown

@ I sent this video to a friend who also just got a FD. I will rewatch it as it’s so full of great info! Thanks so much for your response.

Great video! Did you blanch the corn first or just FD raw?
@gooseberrybridgefarm2 күн бұрын
We freeze dry it raw - the only thing we blanch for freeze drying is regular (not sweet) potatoes
@sharonjennings12822 күн бұрын
Also did you make your own pickled onions for freeze drying? They look amazing!
@gooseberrybridgefarmСағат бұрын
Yes! We pickled the onions then freeze dried them! We used red candy apple onions - they have the BEST sweet onion flavor

Does the texture change when hydrating freeze drjed foods
@gooseberrybridgefarm16 күн бұрын
the texture of rehydrated freeze dried foods is generally comparable to thawed frozen foods

Can you tell me what you use liver powder for please
@gooseberrybridgefarm17 күн бұрын
Liver powder is full of nutrients and no one really likes it around here so we add it in relatively small amounts to cooked ground beef, soups etc without anyone noticing - it can also be put into capsules - we buy our beef as a whole cow direct from the farmer so we get all the organs and bones and try to use everything. Since a whole cow liver is a lot of liver powder we also share some with our dogs & cats occasionally, if they’re being picky about eating or need a boost a bit of liver powder on their food helps

Wow! What an amazing pantry! Now I “need” a freeze dryer 🫣 Takes up less space than my freezer stashes of garden veggies. Does it take a lot of electricity to run the freeze dryer?
@gooseberrybridgefarm6 күн бұрын
It’s a noticeable amount of electricity but worth it (depending on the cost of electricity in your area)
