For black female characters it’s either sidekick or best friend and I’m so tired 😔. I genuinely want something new but Hollywood keeps regurgitating the same ideas.

Cheyenne the sad tea, especially within these popular teenage shows, if they even have a black girl in the main cast she either gets overlooked or they have her be as light as possible while still looking “black enough”

Hey man unrelated but I really admire your voice. Very smooth and relaxing . But anyway, you do make some good points on the Proud Family. As someone who absolutely admires this show and the black representation behind it, I definitely noticed the problem with colorism when it came to characters with a darker shade of skin. And some stereotypes like the Chang Triplets is a bit off putting. But sadly these were different times back then, things have changed a lot.

Great video Shane! I love "The Proud Family". I feel like the show can be successful again if done right. I just need new storylines concepts. The show had some great moments! I do agree on the negative aspects such as colorism, pervert/harassment, and homophobia. You really analyzed things! I agree with the negative stereotypes portrayed in the show. I caught onto some of that stuff early on. Some hidden messages were there. Overall, the show is a childhood CLASSIC on Disney Channel. I enjoyed this video. I love your artwork! And keep up the great work!

In all honesty, I preferred Cartoon Network at the time. When I was on Disney, I wanted to see Dave the Barbarian (my name is Dave). For me, Proud Family was just something that was on. I watched it, but I never got into it. As an adult, I tend to prefer shows that were meant to entertain over shows that were meant to teach lessons or morals. Those that are supposed to teach (preach), in my opinion, typically handle their topics in a rushed or shallow manner that can potentially do more harm than good. Like in the episode about bullying where Penny's answer to dealing with the gross sisters was to work for them. Or how one or two episodes prior, Trudy let them into the house and guilted Penny into accepting them. I was bullied by some of the girls in my class, so I didn't appreciate either episode. I actually just got into South Park, and I think they handle race better than Proud Family ever could. The Big Fix in season 25 taught that you should get to know someone before you try to "Help" them. Stan tried to "Help" Tolkien, and the guy was heavily embarrassed. At least that's how I interpret the episode. As for, say, the Juneteenth episode of Louder and Prouder, it felt like the creators were trying to catch up with political fads from 2020. All in all, I think they suck at what they do.

Yes, Helga was obsessed with Arnold but the difference is that Sticky knew that Dijonay was obsessed with him and Helga kept her love for Arnold a secret. I compare Dijonay obsession with sticky more with Nikki Parker (Comedian Monique) from the show “The Parkers”. Throughout that show Nikki was obsessed with professor Oglevee and she would do similar things that Dijonay did. Also the professor would make it known like Sticky that he didn’t like Nikki (The show came out before The Proud Family)

I do agree with your opinions. Another scene I found questionable with Dijonay character is in the episode about Bebe & Cece baptism. Both sides of Penny families were at a park playing football and Dijonay was bragging to Penny how she got Penny cousins digits (phone numbers) and when they pan over we found out the cousin was in diapers. Penny had to tell her that it was a baby monitor
