As someone with back pain and really bad sciatica, Rhett is 100% spot on about beds being too soft being worse and also knowing the exact moment you’ve messed your back up from that initial sharp pain.

For me, I wish I wouldn't have let it get to the point where I couldn't walk and in ICU... before finally having the surgery. Like me, Rhett, you may have to do the same. Teaching your kid to surf - ok, maybe it went smoothly, but 90% of it is in the history, backstory, trust, relationship, and going to the beach with the family and HAVING the surfboard and going out with him. You were there, ok, you showed up. Show up for your kids and they will learn amazing things. It's not in the time and effort it took to show him how to get up on the board. It's in everything else. Vacations are tricky man. Worst vacation I ever went on was Sandiego, during Christmas 2019. It was so crowded everywhere that we didn’t get to do anything we’d planned. We didn’t even see the ocean as much as I’d hoped. It was awful, at the time. It even redefined how I felt about my marriage. We were still just hanging on to that honeymoon phase of our relationship, and honestly that vacation snatched me right down to earth from cloud nine. Luckily that “lesson” of a vacation ended up helping me to see my husband for who he really is, not in a bad way (he’s a great person) but realistically. Now when we go on vacations, I’m ready to cap my expectations, but also to prepare for everyone’s needs. Everybody has more fun when everyone is comfortable. Pack snacks, have coffee available, plan meals. Don’t go to extremely crowded places during holidays.

Toward the end, I got back out in the water one last time and a wave smacked me from behind and my prescription sunglasses fell off into the water. I tried to catch them but to no avail. The Pacific Ocean ate my sunglasses. On a happy note, we did get to travel to LA, San Diego, and Joshua Tree so that was fun. My husband was on high alert the whole time though and rush through a bunch of places to remain “safe.” I just wanted to have some relaxing fun. We enjoyed the trip overall and I give it a 7.
