As it turned out, Edward VIII abdicating was the best thing that ever could have happened.

Noel Coward once said there should be a statue of Wallis Simpson erected on every village green in Britain, for if it wasn’t for her we would have been saddled with a worthless King in wartime and we wouldn’t have experienced the greatness of George VI and Elizabeth II.
@scaramouche853
@scaramouche853 Жыл бұрын
@@annaf7228 however (here’s where the probables come in) They say Wallis was unable to have kids due to a botched abortion she once had in Shanghai, so if Edward had dumped Wallis and remained King, he would have married someone else and could have potentially have had an heir.

I also met her once. In Windsor, as I gave way to her on a misty morning,as she was crossing the road, all alone, I was driving on. I stopped to let her cross the road . She was riding a horse and wore a scarf. I felt strangely honoured,though we hadn´t spoken.

I recall something which Prince Philip said and I slightly paraphrase - early on our marriage , we decided to make sure to never be carried away by the attention , or to believe that we are somehow special ourselves , or to be important . We are here to serve . In this both our late Queen and Prince , excelled , always retaining time and interest in and for others , a natural modesty exemplifying their wonderful decency of spirit and loyalty. ( A shame these values are not embraced by the repugnant grandson and his woman ) .

Have always admired and loved the Queen. When in my early 20s I worked at City Hall in Vancouver BC Canada. The Queen came on a visit. Standing within 6 ft of her I was impressed with how much lovelier she was than her photos showed. What a marvellous example of duty and warmth she gave us! I am so grateful we had her for so long!

This documentary was the most touching and human. Reflecting her personal touch for the individuals she reigned over. The silhouette artist, a simple gift that obviously impressed her as much as all the expensive gifts, to take a place in her bedroom. We have had much information about her coronation, not being born to be queen, family issues throughout her life, but it is the small moments of human kindness that always are the most touching and leave an everlasting impression. Thank you to the documentary makers and all those that contributed.

I think Queen Elizabeth had an awesome impact and touched lives of people all over the world. I am not British but I was raised by my grandmother who watched the Queen's coronation live and absolutely adored her. Years later as an adult, I went to live in London and cheered with the crowd in the streets for the Queen's diamond jubilee in 2012. Queen Elizabeth was the epidome of grace, strenght, resilience, leadership, and as a woman, someone I looked up to. May her memory be a blessing.

I always viewed the Queen as a link to the past. I think people appreciated that she lived through 2 world wars where she observed her mother and father choosing to stay in London and going outside (when they didn’t have to) and making contact with people going through hell listening to and comforting them. I think that witnessing so much devastation and suffering first hand contributed to her promise and devotion to service that was to provide peace, comfort and stability to her people, a promise she fulfilled right up to the end.

Maria.
