Hey hey! Your surveyor was none other than Pat - a neighbour of mine from when we were on the Little Ouse 🤩. Good to see he’s being kept busy. And it was great to see you both. We have been lurkers to your channel basically since you started. You are so funny. And just love the way Becks gets stuck in down the engine hatch. Hope you have now got that leak sorted out🤞. Since seeing you moored at March; We have traveled up the northampton 17 locks. And a presently moored up opposite Gayton Marina. Chris, Bex, if "Wombat" had a new and heavy base plate welded on to reduce the requirement for ballast, why have you got all that ballast? Wasn't the new base plate enough? Is there an optimum draft for the size of boat? What happens if you block-up those drain holes? Are they no longer used? So what replaced them? Sorry for so many questions but you are the subject of discussion and debate between me and an old shipmate of mine who now lives in Arizona, where all they've got is desert!
@TheNomadicCrobot2 жыл бұрын
Oh amazing ,glad we can be a conversation piece, the holes should leagaly be 7inches above the water when I looked I to it but we're obviously we're lower now because of the base plate the holes sit lower, I think there fine if there connected to something but to just have some of them open on the inside is quite dangerous I think, so we will have to put new ones in when we know we're there going to be needed, I'm bot really sure about the ballet situation..I would probably think we wouldn't need ballest as it sits very firmly in the water compared to other boats.. but we noticed it had ballest so thought it must be there for a reason, someone did tell us you still need it along the sides to keep the boat stable however heavy the baseplate is, so we've part taken some out, but may end up removing more if it seems OK, thanks for your questions 😉
@terryhoyle70432 жыл бұрын
@@TheNomadicCrobot Thanks for the prompt response, I'll tell Arizona Pete. Think it best if you get those drain holes blocked-up whilst you have a welder to hand. Just run some water down the sink/shower/basin to see which ones are still in use. You already know which one serves the bilge pump. Might also be a scupper for the well deck? Maybe your Surveyor could advise on ballast needs? I think autumn's approaching 'cos there's a nip in the evening air. Stay warm and happy blacking.

So good to see the Wombat is sound. You have the best vlogs, I follow you because you are such fun and keep me smiling. I really hope it brings you great peace of mind and confidence to carrying on with the refurb. I must say for all your inexperience the jobs you both have done are really brilliant. Fair play for getting it sorted and it will give you peace of mind. My boats been platted and I didn't have a clue what that was. Now I know it's another layer of steel on top of my old steel I'm happy because I've smashed this hull hard many times and I believe it could of puncture my old 6 mm plate. The yard told me that even new plate is never 6mm dead on. It's usually anywhere between 5.5mm to 6 mm so yours is like new still apart from that little bit. I've got to get mine out asap. See you on the cut rips. If you see me make sure you stop for a cuppa. Ta Ra rips.

You should not be looking as he is welding. He should have told you that. He’s fine with the full face protection. It’s called Arc-eye, or welder's flash, it is an inflammation of the cornea, caused by ultraviolet radiation from the arc during welding. The sufferer is usually unaware that they have been significantly exposed until several hours later. It is very painful and can cause real lasting eye damage. I hope you are both ok. I have had it lots of times while welding just getting a flash for a split second, it feels like your rubbing sand into you eyes. Hope you are both ok 🙏
