We look at the business of truck tyres via Midland tyres. We wanted to upgrade one of our lorries for a more allround grip tyre and these guys had the solution. We chat with Ger Hyland president of the Irish Road Haulage Association and Conor from Bridgestone about trucks and tyres in Ireland.

Great video I use to run a few trucks here in ireland but got out of it 7years ago very very hard to make a living from it with the price of fuel insurance and wages and then people not paying you I was lucky I got away clean from it not owning anything but some people are not as lucky my own sons wouldn’t even look at a truck how times have changed when I was young all I wanted was tractors and trucks

Very tru but in this country you go an pay for to get your theory test do your lessons an eventually pass your test if you are not over the age of 25 your crucified on insurance in return men don’t like to take on younger drivers but I asked if you pass the driving test are you not as qualified as any other driver

The rear axle being the lift axle always looks so strange to me. Does that make it a tag axle and not a pusher then?

Yeah tag axle. No drive in this axle.

Please don't tell that young people are not interested in the truck driver industry that is because for years young people were told it's a dogs life long hours no facilities. They listened to what they were told. I'm a truck driver and it's a good life and I am happy. Be honest and young people might be interested in joining the industry.

It’s not just lady drivers that have no facilities in customs in Dublin port. I’ve no interest in using a two year old portapotty that has never been cleaned or washed either

Drivers are leaving the industry because they are sick and tired of being treated like criminal by the RSA also poor services and employers who bring in agency drivers and pit them against each other getting drivers from other countries will not solve the problem
