I have been in love with Scania since my childhood. My late Uncle used to own a fleet of Benz, DAF, MAN, VOLVO, and SCANIA that were roaming around Congo D.R., Zambia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. Among the Scania, some were used as technical support vehicles, and uncle used to come with one of them by the house every time he was in town; he will get me drive around with me. In the area where I used to live, most of the trucks around were MAGIRUS DEUTZ, TOYOTA 6000, Renault JE 13, and the army dedicated 6x6 MAN. Since, the sound of a SCANIA was so distinctive, I could recognize it from a distance and scream UD (the truck had big U & D letters on the sides of the container that it used to have) every time my uncle had come around. I was like six years old at the time. I love the Scania content Bruce; keep them coming.

Bruce I hope Scania can compete in the trucking industry in the future here in the USA🇺🇸
@RedAppleApe
@RedAppleApe Жыл бұрын
They could. But not on the price bc it isn’t worth building up a whole factory only for the US market and the taxes to import are top high on trucks. The other thing is that Scania is owned by Volkswagen and they own also 100% of Navistar. So they would had to fight one of their own daughters in the US against the powerfull big competitors. I mean they definitely could compete especially on short distance hauling and city areas bc of the small footprint. And on long distance they would fit on the frame size of a Peter nearly a house in the cabin with all the befenits of a Scania.

I’ve always been a big fan of cab overs. This truck is bad ass. When you compare this truck to a Peterbilt, International or Freightliner, they are 100yrs apart. But compared to a Volvo truck, here in the states, of the same year, there’s not much difference. Volvos have the air lock on the tilt steering. Heated and cooled seats, keyless entry and remote start, the Volvo dynamic steering is next level safety. The Volvo FMX 8x8 is a very capable off-road class 8 truck. Everything you find in a Volvo car or SUV, the trucks have.

That locomotive sound is because they enabled the exhaust valve. 7:44 Martjin shows it here. Basically switching between normal and straight pibe. When I drove a 124 first time a 2008 model every other trucks felt old fashioned. Super quiet and the ergonomic is just fantastic. Everything is within range without lifting yourself out of the chair.. All scania engines are super drivable. They pull from well below 1000 rpm

Used to drive a R620 NEXT GEN Road train pulling just over 90T. Pulled well and was so comfortable even fully loaded. Best thing getting out end of day and not feeling beaten. Yes the bunks not huge but you would be surprised the amount of space they have.

What factory are you going to in Sweden? In Oskarshamn they do the cabs for Scaina and I was part of the team of electricians back in 2016 who rebuilt part of the painting stage. Before the rebuild of the line the glue for the windshield was put on the clear coat, but what we did was an extra step where tape is put on the base coat around the window frame before painting. After the cab is painted the tape is removed and the glue is put on the basecoat. Makes for a better bond. My brother is a trucker and has a yellow Scania, he loves his job. Good luck with your trip Bruce and welcome to Scandinavia!

Fun to see this truck. Last week I visited Scania production in Zwolle the Netherlands where these trucks get build. Very cool and interesting to see, all the big V8's traveling through the factory was insane and now to see one that is as cool as this one with such a great sound makes it even better. On the KZbin channel of Scania production Zwolle you can see some footage from inside the factory in case some of you may find that interesting to see.

If you are going to visit the scania factory in södertälje sweden, there is a 'demo-centre' where customers etc can come and try different trucks, they have an off-road course even. I work at the transmission heat treatment part of the factory as a maintenance technician for almost 16 years.

The clutch pedal on the new Scania is optional, so for example if you need to crawl real slow or if you get stuck and need to rock the truck away.

We take them for granted here in Scotland as we dont know much else. Its a shame you didnt get a chance to drive it in the dark as the lights on the new gen are amazing. Thanks again and i look forward to your future content. ❤🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

What amazes me the most between US and EU trucks is the difference in visibility. Wether it's blind spots, mirror position, outside overall view or lights. I drive a 2022 G410 daycab in the french Alps.

Don't forget, it's $1.000.000 in The Netherlands, its very heavy taxed. To put that in perspective, a VW Golf R have a base price of $45.455 in US. This exactly the same car have a base price of $87.450 in The Netherlands. Same goes for a Tiguan, starts from $28k in US, $47.5 in Holland, and that car isn't even near the trimlevel of its US counterpart. I recon this beautiful Scania would be 500~750k when it would be possible to buy that thing in the US 😉

@@DuBstep115 yeah, but this caliber of trucks aren't bought to be driven around Europe, they are made for Morocco and Tunisia, or trips to the 'stans and Mongolia. Besides, they are bad-road vehicles, not off-road vehicles. I saw a few similar trucks up in northern Scandinavia this summer - it's quite possible to get away from civilization and get a bit of mud on the tyres in Europe as well.
