Our Rich Journey - OUR STOCK PORTFOLIO UPDATE | Our Dividend Income In Early Retirement (Ep. 9 - October 2019): We started this series on our high dividend yielding individual stock portfolio in December when we invested $10,000 in ten individual companies. Each month after that, we invested an additional $833 to the portfolio, shared a video update on the portfolio, and answered investment questions. If you’ve been following along with the series, you probably noticed that our most recent update on our portfolio was back in July 2019. Reason being - we reached financial independence, retired early, and moved to Portugal! :) Now that we’re retired, our individual stock portfolio has changed. In this video, we give you an update on how our portfolio is doing, how we’re changing our portfolio in early retirement, and how we’ve reinvested our dividends in a new ETF. Thanks for watching!

It’s a lot of women who are financially literate and motivated. These video comments would be a good indication that if we are on here then we are out here! The problem lies in finding a partner who is equally yolked AND like minded when it comes to financial independence. Who wants to work till they die? That’s insane. As a Registered Nurse, my career is too mentally, emotionally, & physically demanding to work until age 67!! Ha Ha Never! I’ve been educating myself & making moves to situate my area. Good luck and GOD’s speed to you all! Let’s go

darkhumphrey it’s extremely risky. You basically live on a minimalist budget. If one of them were to have an unexpected expense of some kind they would be in big trouble. Especially the more time passes can you imagine if they need to reenter the job market? First question will be why such a long gap between jobs? First thought for any new employer will be they have a lousy work ethic.

Good job. Yes, the stock market is amazing. I was exposed to info the other day that compounded interest even amazed Einstein. Although I retired at 54, I continue to put $350 a month in the stock market from my pension. I wish more people were educated on the stock market and realize they don't have to be a rocket scientist to benefit from it. Unfortunately, most people don't have the patience because we are so consumed with instant gratification and nonsense material items to try and be like the "Jones's". Little do they realize that you can still enjoy life, but pay yourself first. You both have done a great job. When I travel there in the future, I would like to invite your family for dinner in Lisbon. It will be on me.
@OurRichJourney

Mike - so much to unpack there because you make soooo many good points! :) My favorites: 1) financial education is key, but you don't have to be a rocket scientist; 2) practice patience - stock market investing isn't a get rich quick scheme; 3) don't try to keep up with the Joneses; and 4) pay YOURSELF first!!! LOVE it!!! :)

I retired at 55 and also continue to budget monthly purchases of dividend stocks every month. I'm not currently using the dividends but one day I will. For the time being, even though I'm retired, I'm still growing those assets. Absolutely agree, if you make investing a priority, you can still enjoy life while ensuring that you're planning for your future.

Just wanted to say videos like this are very valuable to our youth. Fortunately for me I grew up with a father who was very open with talking about money, and I learned a lot from him. I’m simply here watching this to expand my knowledge about investing. However it wasn’t till I got older when I realized a lot parents don’t openly talk about finances with their kids and the school system certainly doesn’t teach it. Thank you guys for educating us!

Thank you for sharing. I've been investing for nearly 40 years, changing my approach as needed with a goal of having money available for when I was between jobs. So my investing was for an emergency fund. When I grew older I knew I had no pension to count on other than my IRA /401K and Social Security; so about 15 to 20 years ago I began building my own pension. I love seeing how people approach this topic differently. I'm always looking for new ideas to incorporate into my life boat. Of the 11 investments that you've listed, I own 2 of them, 1 I sold 1 year ago and 1 I've been researching for the past month. But with your list, I'll be adding 3 more to research, thank you.

In 1996 I have purchased Johnson & Johnson for $24.34 a share now the stock is worth over $130 I get like 40 shares a year from them.My broker Ask me is I’m going to sell off Johnson and Johnson I keep telling them no. Is that the job to make sure that the regular consumer don’t make as much as the big boys does? is it wrong to have too much shares in one company because they making it look like it is.This is not the only company in my portfolio. So your vlog have just giving me a good sense that I may be doing the right thing and that is you had to really feel in your own heart that you are ready to stop those dividends and put it towards another stock.

I paid down on our house. Saves us at least 25 euro a month and no stress about the stock market. I do invest a portion though just to be able to pay down sooner. I made 2 extra payments since may and by doing so reduces exposure and risk. Also it's about 6% return because I compounded the extra money.

Just be on alert, market is peaking to all time highs, and historically overdue for a pull back/recession. Fed reserve is doing all they can to keep this asset price rally going but that just means their pulling forward the arrows in their quiver now and they’ll be left empty when the downturn happens - especially since the fed rate was dropped 3 time’s since last December, essentially not much more room to drop and stimulate the market on a downturn unless they go into negative rate territory, which has its own host of problems (see Japan/Some European countries). So, careful when buying at or near the peak of the market, you’ll have more to lose than gain at this point in the cycle. When the markets go negative, sell out, buy when there’s blood in the streets.

Capital Exotics I’ve been hearing that story for years and years now. Long term investors just worry about investing over years upon years in the end it usually averages out and the market gives an average return of 7%-12%
@capitalexotics
@capitalexotics 4 жыл бұрын
Hustle With JesseW depends on when you sell, if you were 75 during the 2007-2009 Great Recession and all of a sudden you’ve held long, played the averages your entire life - you had a major, major problem. The predicament would be hold through half a decade or more until you’re 80+ and hope the market recovers to your former market value or sell and preserve your lower market value. But are you willing to lose half of your portfolio’s value at 75? I would lose my mind if I lost a million now and I’m not even 40. See, this concept implies a “DONT time the market” mantra, but ultimately you do at some point have to time the market. Even if you never pull out and die with your money in the market, the accounts are deemed as sold on your death and various estate costs are applied - if the market is on a high, then you did well but if the market is on a low and it’s sold... what a travesty! So, this market strategy has an end game whether we like to admit it or not. As age increases the probability of making 1 marketing timing exit increases. There were many retirement aged people in 2007 that bailed out in the depths of the recession because they were afraid to lose it all at the point in their lives when they needed their savings the most. Obviously, that was a bad decision but as age increases and the dependence on your stock portfolio to continue your standard of living - the stakes become much higher and riding highs and lows become much more of a head game. Sure, a 20, 30 or 40 year old would not really need to blink because they have another 30 to 60+ timeframe BUT old people don’t have that luxury.

Capital Exotics your supposed to decrease the risk but never take all your investment out rather live off of the interest. Or like some do never invest due to the fears and paralysis of the analysis. I personally invest in both the market and real estate diversification is how I hedge my future. To each their own as they say.

As a single Black Educated Woman this journey is so important. I have paid off $9,000 in 3 months using the snowball method. However, I am just learning about the FIRE movement. Should I pay off all my debt before I start the Fire journey or should I just start investing all that money instead? Should I buy a house this year as I planned ($150,000 or less) or find a way to keep renting but for less ($1000 for a bills+ Rent)? Any wisdom on this from anyone in the FIRE movement and I would love to connect with other members and I am looking forward to purchasing the course!

Stocks in certain industries will start their creep back up, some wont, some will do both. But the worst is over. Beginning of May will be the first push. Its good timing with the weather too. watch the airline stocks, theyre all ripe for the buying, cruise lines too. Get in now. Or in a couple weeks. The other thing I dont get: 4% rules out of what? You guys must have at least 3k-4k income a month from something: 5x properties in the US?? Can you clarify?
@OurRichJourney
@OurRichJourney 4 жыл бұрын
The 4% rule is a withdrawal rate from a portfolio. We talk about it in some of our videos. One of the videos is linked in the description box. :)
@NoRoads2AllRoads
@NoRoads2AllRoads 4 жыл бұрын
4% is what you can withdraw in a yearly basis from your portfolio and it's considered a safe withdrawal rate, where the portfolio will never go "bankrupt". It means the profits and gains on the portfolio can recover from that withdrawal rate even when facing bad periods. So that means for example a 1 million dollar portfolio, will give you 40,000 dollars of income for eternity and still able to grow (which in essence will make your withdrawal rate also increase so the 40,000 yearly income tends to go up as well but you can only see this effect after many years)
@goreny
@goreny 4 жыл бұрын
@@NoRoads2AllRoads I completely understand that. What I don't get is the 15k portfolio videos which won't get you 6 months of living vs the rest of the income which they never show how they manage and make money. All these theory is fine on paper but the actual numbers are never shown.
@NoRoads2AllRoads
@NoRoads2AllRoads 4 жыл бұрын
@@goreny 15k gets you aboiut 6 months of 2500 dollars of expense. More than enough in Lisbon. As for the rest of portfolio I assume they just started a new portfolio to make a video series and keeping it on track for transparency without actually showing all their money for public view. I get it, they want some privacy. Most likely that's the reason. But you can estimate their portfolio is around 1.2-2.2M assuming a withdrawal rate of 2-3.5% since he said they don't withdrawal the 4% (I would say it should be on the higher end of the interval since 3.5% is pretty much 4% so for him to say they don't withdrawal that it's probably because it's much less)

Thanks for the efforts to upload the video 1 do you have a conflict of interest with VYMi or robinhood? 2. Returns without time lines are useless to comprehend. Is 12% over 1 year, 5 years, 10 year? I understand the idea was to show the importance of dividends and diversity. But again yields are no where mentioned so hard to compare

They have 7 other accounts, real estate, and KZbin. They have multiple 'passive' income streams. I don't think they ever said they retired off the dividends on their Robinhood accounts. This is just an example of what they do on their larger accounts. They also aren't using these specific dividends, they are just reinvesting it. They are illustrating the kind of growth you can expect from their investing strategies.
