I live between Destin and Pensacola and the price for an RV Park in my town is OUTRAGOUS! Which gives me an idea. I should rent out a spot in my yard for RV parking @$60 a night. I'm 2 miles away from the beach and fishing, Free WiFi, out door shower, above ground pool, and can handle an decent sized RV.

We have been fulltime over 9 years now and MAN have we seen all of the expenses go up, it's just getting crazy. We plan to start eating out at lunch time to save on the eating out cost. And after this years plans we plan to go back to boondocking more like we did the first few years on the road. We used to only make plans a couple days before lifting our jacks but we don't do that any more. We have kept track of every penny we have spent over the last 9 years fulltime and looking at that spreadsheet just makes me shake my head.

We didn’t anticipate the cost rising this fast when we decided to go FT. And just like you guys we will adjust our cost and plans as well. I guess it’s just a part of life. When you’ve been married for so long you kinda do this over the course of time. Let’s just hope it doesn’t last long. Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching.

I went full time just over three years ago and kept track of all my expenses from day one. Even a $2 cup of coffee went into the records. For the first 2.5 years the costs were kind of steady but the last +- 6 months it just spiraled out of control. I also came to the conclusion that I'll have to travel much slower than what I'm used to. I normally boondock for a couple of days and then move on. Now I'm thinking more in the two week range. Lets face it, gas prices is outrageous and staying out of towns/cities is a good (money saving) idea anyways. .

Just found the channel. 7 weeks is just about the time it settles in that you aren't on vacations -it's a lifestyle. My wife and I have done the snowbird thing for over 20 years. We've traveled with everything from conversion vans, tents, and even sailboats. We pretty much traveled without long range plans. That got harder and harder to do. I think the last time that was viable was 2019. Good luck with RV life and the channel.

Your post brought back a flood of memories for us. Don't, despair as it's normal as you know or soon will. Advice that we learned over the years. All plans are written in Jello. Take it slow. We've lived and traveled in Montana for over 30 years and still haven't filled our bucket list there and the vast array of where we've been and want to go. Best thing was to make our rigs we've had self sufficient. That means batteries, solar, inverters whether we boondock or not. For us, we have our property in Montana and go to desert Southwest for the Winter. LTVA for the winter is 180.00 from Sept. 15th to April 15th. Enjoy the journey!

Every new Rv'er has the same story as yours. Lol... me included. I have been a full-time Rv'er going on 7 years now. Two things that helped me get started is a book called Voyaging on a small income by Annie Hill. The second is the RV Odd Couple. For me, I have no family, never married, no kids ever. I don't have friends either. So... I don't have that issue of wanting to visit people or family. I prefer to be deep in the forest fishing, hunting , and camping. I hook up with other veterans from time to time during hunting season. Looking forward to more of your work and adventures.

We’re paying $18 a night in a full hook up campground attached to a hotel and restaurant over looking at 16th century Mexican city and lake. A five star lunch in the restaurant is expensive at $25 for the two of us. We spend $200 a week on groceries at Walmart Sam’s Club and local supermarkets. No need for a/c or heat at 7,000 feet altitude. We are alone in this luxury and wonder why US campgrounds are overbooked. Pátzcuaro Michoacán

We have been living in our MH FT for about 3 1/2 years, and we hardly ever stay in RV parks. In fact we have been boondocking/dry camping continuously for over a year. Of course there are more opportunities to boondock out west, but on the east coast there are still low budget techniques you can use. For instance I am dry camping in an RV park right now near Shelby, in NC. They are allowing us to stay here for $150 for 3 months. That's less than $1 a day for dump station use, water and trash disposal. Before we came here we stayed in 3 LTVA BLM areas in the Quartzsite, /Yuma, AZ area that cost $180 for all winter (7 months) for the same amenities (dump/water/trash). Quartzsite is a like a giant campground with about a million other RVers spread across the desert. You will definitely make lots of friends if that is your goal. Having sufficient solar power, a generator and plenty of tank capacity helps facilitate dry camping. We sometimes stay at Army Corps of Engineer parks, as we get 1/2 price camping (in the $7-$12 a day range) with our America the Beautiful pass, along with free national park admissions. When we do stay in RV parks we get a monthly rate. We wintered over at one in Los Indios Tx, (near the MX border for some fun day trips there, Ole!) for a couple winters That cost us only $170/mo for a FHU 50A site (+ electric which ran $75-$100 a month). We really like the people there too and are going back next winter. As far as wireless communication, we recommend FMCA's $50 a month unlimited T-Mobile WiFi. It's not perfect, but perfectly adequate to stream KZbin video and watch Netflix or ROKU on several devices simultaneously. Gas is a big expense for us now as we just traveled from coast to coast in an 8mph MH, but we try to limit our MH travel to 7-8k miles a year. Our 30+mpg toad helps a lot. Nevertheless, fuel is still our #1 expense. But that is a controllable expense, so it's manageable. Freedom is the most important aspect about this lifestyle. When someone asks us where we're from, we answer, "Were free range humans." Give this lifestyle time. You still have lots to learn to bring your expenses down, but that's part of the adventure. My best advice is to slow down and smell the roses as much as possible.

Yea, I don’t get the Boondocking thing either! After 21yrs in the US Army, my velvet-ass doesn’t plan to make it hard on myself while trying to enjoy life. The extent of my Boondocking is limited to a Bass Pro, Cabella’s or other Parking lots that allow anymore. I’ve NEVER understood the appeal of FLORIDA because there’s tons of other “Southern States” that are way less crowded…The Southern most end of FL just gets worse because there’s less land and much more people that had the same thoughts! Hell, I think I would go to AZ or NV before FL…

Pretty bummed about the gas prices but guess we won’t be moving every few days like many do. And hope to do more Boondocking. The easiest and fastest thing ended up being the sale of the house. Good luck with everything. The price of gas, groceries ect. stinks but if you do your research it can still be affordable. Lots of the other full-time RVers have said people are booking 6 months in advance, especially at the state parks. Maybe because it's cheaper than places like you found. There's lots out there to help you figure out how to stay cheap or even free. You must have a plan though, to have places to park that aren't sold-out or super expensive. Try You, Me, & the RV. The unexpected things that happened to us once we became full-time rvers were exactly like yours. The cost of food and lodging, as well as the cost of car and rv insurance. And what happened with the fuel cost??? We drive a 40ft motorhome with a 100 gal fuel tank... HELP!!! The park prices are getting ridiculous, especially since we bring our own self contain housing with us. Why are we having to pay so much for a stripe of land. Maybe if enough rvers start avoiding the expensive parks, they will have no choice but to bring there over inflated prices down.

W/R T Anxiety when towing...I use a checklist app. I mean I USE it. I don't walk around with my phone constantly open, but when I think I'm done with a task, I stop, open the app, and go thru the checklist and make sure I didn't miss anything. Also, I NEVER check off something I am about to do - I only check things off that are DONE. And every time I miss something, I add it to the correct checklist. It makes a world of difference.

Don't get me wrong, but it sounds like you are having lots of second thoughts about full time RVing. I didn't hear you talk about liking to be outdoors, walking, hiking, biking, learning about the areas you're visiting, such as architecture, or why the cities and parks are named what they are. Are there any famous people who are from there? Is there a place where the locals hang out? Maybe you could get into photography and get a different view of the places you go to. Also, try to get to know your camping neighbors. A lot of what surprises people is how friendly RVers are, how much they have in common. Ask about their families, pets, hometowns, travels, favorite places to stay and to visit. See if they have a fun recipe for you, so eating "at home" doesn't seem like a hardship or monotonous. You'll get the hang of it. Best of everything in your travels. I wish I could be out there. Susie.

All those suggestions are great and we really do appreciate your insight. And we would ask you to continue to offer advice and suggestions. I guess it’s a lot like staring a new job or moving into your first house. Your really excited but there’s some anxiety about certain things. Boondocking out west (and anywhere else) is something we want/will do. Solar is not in this years budget. But we hope to one day. We lived in Eldersburg (Carroll County) for 21 years. Katrina’s family still has property there, so we park the RV there when we go back home. When I was younger I wanted to live in OC. I think every young teenager wanted to at that time. 🤣🤣 The price is crazy but it’s all supply and demand. And we’re ok with that. Just gotta improvise. And by the way, since you have 6 years experience. Please don’t hesitate to give advice. We would really appreciate it. Thanks!

OC is one of my favorite places. I'm from Jersey but OC beaches are so much better. I go about once a year. Feel free to ask me anything.

Have you heard of Quartize Arizona? We all go there around December to Feb early March. Free blm and Jan starts the big tent RV and rock and mineral shows ect . I've stayed last year March to April in Lake Havasu loved it there so much more then Quartize. Then did 2 months up in the Santa Fe National Forest the temps were perfect.

@@jerseyandhernomads yes we have and I would like to go 1 year. We have reservations for Albuquerque balloon festival this year. Unfortunately we can’t make it this year but hopefully the year after. It sounds like a blast.

AT $50 a night, you could spend $8k putting in a solar and battery system and it would pay for itself in 23 weeks of boondocking. It also could be used for something like 1000 trails membership.

And that’s exactly what we would like to do. I’ve heard nothing but good things about boondocking long term. We’ve did it for a few days here and there. Of course we have the generator. Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for you insight and thanks for watching.

I should say, I don't have any affiliation with Will or these batteries. I just cringe every time I see someone spend 5 times more than they need to on batteries, because I don't have money to throw around like that. Good luck, and I can't wait to see what you do. There are a lot of other options presented by Will also, so do your studying and don't take my word for it.

Or, you can live in a beachfront condo on the Pacific coast of Ecuador for the same money. We’ve found $70-75 a night to be more realistic for a decent park with FHU.

New sub ☘️ Just some thoughts: Out West is definitely cheaper and more boondocking spots. Some I believe you can stay up to 14 days. Then there’s quartzite which you can pay 180 for 6 months. You could use it for less and still do alright, or as an area base camp and go off on trips around that area. Good luck in your travels. Have you checked out boondockers welcome site? Worth looking into.

Thanks for the great info! Haven't done a lot of boondocking but plan to in the near future. Quartzite is also on our places to stay. We belong to Boondockers Welcome just haven't had the chance to use it yet. Maybe while were in Wisconsin this year. Wishing you safe and happy travels!

I'm currently getting rid of most of what I own and hoping to do this soon. I'll have a partial home base with a family member, so if it's a bust, I won't be homeless. My main worry is health insurance. I'm too young for SS or medicare, so I need to figure something out. Working on the road will be tough unless it's online work since I have the poodles.

Congratulations on making the decision to hit the road. Yes, it can be challenging at times but so very worth it. Always a good decision to have a back up plan. Maybe try work camping a few different places. We know quite a few people that absolutely love it and save a ton of money. Safe travels and enjoy your new found freedom. 😊

It's the grandkids part that makes me want to live in an rv at some point. Our adult children live in three different states than us, which makes it difficult to see them more than one weekend a year each. It really blows.

Got to go below Okeechobee to be warm and gotta make reservations a year ahead for at least 3 months in FL. Three month stays will be way cheaper than daily rates. You may want to consider thousand trails many full timers do. Enjoy your travels

We found that out the hard way this winter. It was just a little chilly.🥶 I'm cold if its under 70 degrees! We have made most of our Florida reservations for next year already. Just recently stayed at our first Thousand Trails in SC. Thank you we will. You as well!😀 Thanks for watching!

We just purchased a used membership recently. Our first Thousand Trails experience was a week ago in SC. We are not solar ready yet so probably only a couple days. Hopefully we will add solar in the upcoming year. Thanks for your comment and watching our channel. 😀

Never did full time but have owned several class A's and a couple of class C's over the last few decades, also have tent camped and van camped and honestly the rv's were the least enjoyable, the most expensive both in using and maintenance and upkeep cost. The tents were the biggest pain and depended on the weather the absolute most and the van camping for me was the best compromise and kept with the actual 'camping" feel or vibe while allowing the ease of finding a location to stay along with not costing a fortune to travel to different locations. The rv's in particular the 34+ footers you are so limited in sites large enough to accommodate them not to mention I enjoy tthe mountains and the fuel mileage of one of those beast up and down grades on mountain roads is so atrocious it takes out some of the enjoyment due to the high expense. The full time thing sounds romantic but for me anyway even being retired taking off a few weeks here and there usually in the off season and mainly during the weekdays is I think ample. Like many I toyed with the idea of full time for a bit but I think it would get old really quick honestly. And for me I prefer to go more non destination places to get away from people, enjoy nature and maybe fish a little not have people packed in around me like a residential neighborhood. Enjoy yourselves and good luck but I do not think now or the coming next couple of years is going to be the best time financially to try living the lifestyle you have currently chosen.

Haven't tent camped since I was a kid but did enjoy it. If or when we decide to sell our rv we would love to start van camping. It is nice having time just being with nature and not being in a campground. Actually we enjoy both. If we had known what was around the corner when we made our decision to go full time we probably would have waited a few years. Happy to be on the road not so happy about all the prices skyrocketing! Thanks so much for all your comments and watching the cannel! Stay safe and enjoy everyday you can getaway! 😊
