This game is incredible, it frustrates you and breaks you but you save to quit and see you have sunk over 70 hours into it… then you spend two hours googling how to progress. Then you find yourself booting up and sinking in more hours, beating an impossible enemy and getting to big for your britches and repeating the cycle. I hate it, I love it but damned if I’m not constantly thinking about it.

I've put 150 hours in Elden Ring and the first week was just me and the boys on discord playing and talking about the crazy shit we found to one another, it was so much fun. I honestly can't remember a game that I was so hyped up and still surprised me, playing it blind was amazing, knowing so little about the map and realizing the number of possibilities was like nothing else

At around 11th minute I heard you say that Ubisoft are with random bullshit. Atleast they give you directions to what you are supposed to do and how the story should progress. There have been quite a few times where some cutscenes made no sense due to me being too early or too late. I have difficulty to be entertained riding a horse for 3 hours to just fight a tree elder or that big gray dragon and all the small dragons in caelid. When you make a game's story convoluted and vague, that means that there is a lack of story. Imagine a movie with great world-building, but shit story -- it would still be a shit movie.

So, it's interesting how much my thoughts on ER have changed throughout experiencing it. Initially I found it to be a fantastic time, but after 100+ hours of roaming, it began to set in how unnecessarily large it was. Along with how convoluted everything felt to get the ball rolling. Certain characters are interesting, such as Ranni, Melina, Godrick, Margot, etc. but the general story wasn't very engaging. The music was good- for the purpose it served, but again the same with the story, it wasn't very engaging or gripping. So in honesty, half of the time I was listening to podcast, watching videos, or listening to other game OST that I though fit the moment. The gameplay is great, because you know, it's Souls, but that is the only thing that kept me going. The game was overall good, but I don't believe *all* of the praise that it has been given is very warranted, and at times even overblown. I'm hoping the next Fromsoft entry (if it does feature a open-world, which is likely) will actually add more purpose and substance to the world around. And yes, many pieces of lore is sprinkled throughout the world, but it simply is a detriment to the experience at hand, when the story itself didn't really the biggest grip in the first place. Regarding the Podcast itself: Great idea. I enjoy seeing the two of you, individually and together. Not for the content but you as people. So do whatever content style is convenient and feels right from the both of you.
@bonseez2 жыл бұрын
yea i feel the same. The best parts of the game were the legacy dungeons, and really all i cared about. the open world is filled with repetitive dungeons and caves with nothing worth experiencing in it. Toward the end of the game i was just hoping it would be over soon, it was needlessly long and bloated with meaningless content. The open world felt like the air thats in the bag of chips, keeping you from getting more chips for your money, the chips being the legacy dungeons. The constant boss reuse annoyed me a shit ton too. If it adds nothing new or meanigful to the experience why add it at all? made me feel like 40 hours of my 90 hour playthrough was wasted and not memorable at all. I still liked the game a lot but for me it probably ranks on the lower half of my favorite souls games. There were other problems that accumulated into me liking it less but the bloat was the main factor. It kinda bothers me this game is being held as one of the best open worlds in a game, because it lets other devs see how they got away with reusing bosses and having copy paste-ish looking dungeons, and then how other open world games, a genre with an already low standard for content, can get away with it too. This was the only souls game after beating i had no desire to replay it or go to NG +. I've beaten other souls games dozens of times, ds3 upwards of 50, even sekiro i beat 24 times. I love these games, but elden ring just didnt resonate with me the same way, even going in with no expectations.
@thequincy_2 жыл бұрын
@@bonseez I absolutely agree. At around the 100 hour mark, I was genuinely hoping for it to be over. I shouldn't feel like that when experiencing a game. I should *desire* more, not want it to end due to extreme bloat. My 120(+) hours could have been literally halved if that game wasn't open-world- or at least if the world wasn't so unnecessarily spacious with a absurd amount of nothingness. It is worrying as well how much praise it has gotten for such practices. I have a feeling Fromsoft is going to listen to such praise, and as a take away they will encourage their current idea of a open-world and believe it is correct, when in reality it only does a handful of things correctly. I believe BOTW is still the best open-world to date. While that had many empty spaces as well (around the edges), it didn't force you to explore them. It gave you one main objective, which was defeat Ganon, that's it, everything else is for you to explore. The world also didn't feel overwhelming to explore. Unlike ER where it actively feels like there are 20 things you can/should be doing, half of which are meaningless after you do them or simply aren't worth the rewards given for all the times wasted. A disclaimer: I strongly dislike most Ubisoft games and their open-world world practices. So I don't even find them worth mentioning, ER's only competitor has been BOTW.

I love Elden Ring, but I hate games finishing after release... I already completed it before the first patch, 100%... Then more shit gets added, but I'm done... I don't wanna go back track AGAIN just to finish 1 quest step they didn't finish before :/ I played for 277 hours, loved every minute of it, but the additions kinda make me have a salty after taste punishing me for playing too much too soon :/ I agree, it was a 10/10 on release to me, but now it slowly loses a few points. The story is 100% in game btw, you're not forced to look up articles, because those people got their info from the game so you can too.

@@iSpiderMonkey I'm talking about the KZbin Community post. You know the app that they post their videos too? If you look hard enough you can see a "community" tab. If you hover your finger over it and tap on it you'll see said post mentioned in my initial comment. There's this neat little feature called comments. If you find that too you can see plenty of people did not want this. Its lazy and an excuse to kill off the channel.
