We woke this morning to the heartbreaking news of Dr John McDougall’s passing. He was a visionary, a giant in the nutrition world on whose shoulders we stand. In this livestream we pay tribute to his legacy. We were fortunate to have met him on many occasions.
Malcolm mentioned the lost tapes of Nathan Pritikin. You can listen to them here - www.drmcdougall.com/education...
We mentioned the 7-day lifestyle medicine immersion retreat we've been running since 2017. Our next one starts Sunday 8th September 2024 in a tranquil rural setting about an hour and a half from Melbourne, Australia. Details - www.wholefoodsplantbasedhealt...

I read the email from the McDougall Program yesterday, and it floored me. I was shocked and saddened. I had emailed Dr. McDougall last year to wish him a happy birthday, and thanked him for the positive impact he's had on my life. He replied back, "Helping others is the greatest gift in life."

I, too, received the heartbreaking announcement from the McDougall Program. It left me breathless. John McDougall was the David to the Medical Industry's goliath. He was an astounding man and we all love him for who he was. It will now be up to all of us to carry the torch and widen the crack in truly healthy information that John McDougall chipped away at with his relenetlessly singular energy. We, now, must build on that energy. John McDougall gave us the information and the tools. We must now put it to good use. We must now use this grief-energy to plow forward in memory of his love for all of us. Thank you Australia!

John McDougall was truly one of the Greats. He clearly cared about people and their health, which is a quality so sadly lacking in most doctors these days. He will be sorely missed.

McDougall hero was Nathan Pritikin a man with no credentials in any health or medical field who wrecked his health. Would you get dental work done by someone with no credentials, no experience and no license in anything related to dentistry? Dr. Bessie Delany age 104, the second African American woman licensed to practice dentistry in New York State would never approve of a starch based diet since she saw first hand what consuming a fad diet would do to wreck your health and teeth.

Thank you both for your memories of Dr McDougell and Mary. He lives on in your life’s purpose in making this a better world. His generosity was epic as he would say in watching his patients get well he was the luckiest doctor. ❤

Vale to the great man- from Narrogin WA. Curmudgeon, but a Saint amongst the Nutritionists.I learned more than anything from him as well as all the cohorts, Ornish, Essie, Barnard, Klaper, T Colin Campbell, etc etc and Nathan P.who I came across originally. Dr Mac was no nonsense, no agenda. To question Dr Mac's cedibility was like to tell Michael Phelps how to swim, to give batting tips to Sachin Tendulkar, to instruct a politician how to lie. He's just looking down from above us cheering us on. He set the path, the path is the way home.

I was looking up tributes to Dr McDougall and came across years thank you very much. I want to say, I'm going to subscribe to your channel also. Yes, what you shared .. about Dr. McDougall "always" being seen and "out there" speaking and champion-ing us onward is going to be missed more than anything. Just like you said. I feel the same sorrow and loss. But then we can surely hear John telling us all that he has as if a video is playing in our mind seeing him and hearing him and that will help us to carry on into our futures heeding his instructions. Thank you for sharing your heaviness and tributes.....all of our testimonies are a tribute to Dr. McDougall as we continue on in his shoes, telling others of Dr. McDougall's teachings and the change that following his instructions made in our own lives. His voice, smile, boldness, u ashamedness, passion, just even seeing his face, will be missed forever. I'm thankful to have found him 10 years ago. I feel tremendously blessed, as you too - I know. Thank you. It's nice to have come to your channel today.

Dr McDougall ( RIP 🙏 ) was passionate about his cause but no one is talking about his notable weight loss and looking emaciated, frail and elderly.. its clear he was suffering from " Sarcopenia " ( age and diet related muscle loss ) which may certainly have been a contributing factor in his early death...Too many starchivores , vegans etc with Sarcopenia after a decade or so , and appearing emaciated and elderly....protein / Amino acids and fat are especially crucial as we enter middle age and beyond....he was eating the best diet for humans whilst looking emaciated, frail and elderly !!! .. .im in my 60's and have no lines or wrinking anywhere, I engage in weekly strength training, I eat similar to McDougall but always include around 20 % animal nutrition as this makes an enormous difference to my mental and physical well-being and quality of life... finally.... lack of adequate protein/ essential Amino Acids and fats are the cause of rapid aging after the age of 50 ... this has science behind it....

Sad news indeed. Using nutrition can help with frailty as we get older, and hopefully people can see what to and what not to do looking at these clips on youtube.

Dr Lester Morrison was a cardiologist who pioneered a low fat, low-cholesterol diet and Nathan Pritikin talked about him to Dr McDougall. You can read a little about him here - www.pritikin.com/home-the-basics/about-pritikin/38-nathan-pritikin.html

He looked terrible. His diet was wrong. My great grandmother lived to be 90. She grew up on a farm, drank fresh buttermilk, killed and ate chickens in her backyard. McDougall was wrong about starches. That's a great way to end up insulin resistant and diabetic.

Conspiracy theorists make me laugh. Their immaturity blossoms during times like these. When Steve Jobs died, all the armchair experts claimed “you see… he was vegan he didn’t get enough of this or that”. When DrMcD went down the rabbit hole he scientifically proved (yes, even the biographer retracted the vegan comments) that if Jobs were not vegan he most likely would’ve died much earlier. To zero in on your suitable agenda to attempt to mock or disprove DrMcD would have been welcome by the very legend himself. But get your pathetic arse out of the armchair and spend 55 years 24-7 passionately devoted to laying claim to your facts. The ignorant spewing of nonsense, at least here in the US, is the new in thing for the ignorant. We nickname it the MAGA movement. It’s a group of uneducated and or the selfish, greedy and intolerant trying to disprove the educated through screaming the loudest. And in the end nothing but hot air to show for it all. DrMcD saved my life. To this minute I subscribe to his recommended lifestyle 90% or so. I used his theories as a foundation and then along the way I listened to others (some in complete disagreement to DrMcD) and created my own hybrid version that works for me. If I live to 77 my passing thoughts will not be “how could this happen to me? I followed McD to the T I should be living to 99+”! But rather I’ll have a smile knowing most likely because of the love of body and mind backed by science and common sense, because of McD, I most likely wouldn’t have made it to 67.

If I had felt great following the Starch Solution which I did not I would have continued. And the fact that we will never know the cause of death for Dr MCDougall lacks integrity. For someone who was so critical during his life of how and why other people died he should have made sure that when whe died we would all know exactly why and we never will. That lack of integrity is how I know he was not totally in line with truth.

We are sorry that you did not feel great following the starch solution. We know many people who are thriving eating this way, as we are. Regarding the cause of death - please have respect for his family at this very sad time. His passing was less than a week ago. Please give them time before making the accusations you have made. We knew Dr McDougall as a man of the highest integrity who gave so much of his time to help others.

Dr. McDougall said he treated 12,000 people. Dr. Leila Denmark who lived to age 114 with a faultless track record and perfect Wikipedia page with no controversial claims treated 250,000 people and warned people about those who promote a non accredited scam fad diet such as McDougall. She said each meal should contain a high quality protein and the best protein is from eggs, lean meat and black eyed peas and has 15 awards and honors and helped invent the Pertussis vaccine and McDougall invented nothing but a money making resort. There is no such thing as a starch procedure or starch solution or any other such nonsense for any omnivore, algivore, detritivore, carnivore or herbivore.
