I’m a plumber and this week had 2 customers aged 97 and 94, still married and still vibrant. Chinese. They said they eat twice a day since they were kids. 1st meal at between 9:00/10:00 and the 2nd meal at about 5:00. No snacks ever they said. 1st meal is always rice and vegetables type stir fry. Very little oil. 2nd meal is always the same as the first but a very small portion of meat. They have eaten like this for 9 decades. Extremely thin and fit. Quite amazing really.

They also do not have a lot of desserts like we do. And also if they do have desserts they are much smaller portions and much lower in sugar.

You’re on the definitely right track to treat MS (despite what your doctor says) with a vegan diet. Dr McDougall has spoken extensively on the positive results that Dr Roy Swank had treating MS patients with a low fat mainly plant based diet. Many of his patients decades later had not relapsed with their MS symptoms due to sticking to that diet Here’s a video of Dr McDougall interviewing Dr Roy Swank on the subject…. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5vVh3uJhMx1jas

Sadly, there is no diet that reverses MS. Relapses happen at random when you have RRMS. I have had PPMS for over 5 years and my progression has slowed dramatically since starting on Ocrevus and eating a diet high in fatty, grass-fed meat, wild-caught salmon, and pasture-raised eggs. My fatigue is also greatly reduced and my body composition is better than before. Eat a nutrient-rich, CNS-supporting diet which must include abundant B 12, vitamin D, zinc, and omega 3s, which are only available in animal foods. Good luck!

No: fructose in excess can turn to fat (which comes from fruit, if eaten in large amounts) but you would need to eat a lot of fruit on the program for that to happen. Glucose (the mainstay fuel from the starch solution) does not easily become fat at all. You might want to study the text The Starch Solution as well - he breaks down something of the biochemistry there.

Hi Chef AJ. This interview was amazing! Maybe you could get Dr. McDougall to discuss a starch plant-based diet for those who have had a small bowel obstruction surgery (myself, it was mechanical, because of adhesions, from previous surgery), and told to eat low to no fiber. There is very little information out there, and no one talks about it. Myself, coming from a high fiber plant-based diet, had to resort to junk processed foods and fresh juices to keep me going. I'm almost 64, alone and on a very low budget. I can't afford a consultation. Plus, my insurance doesn't cover diet related issues, especially not plant-based. Since my surgery and severe diet change, my cholesterol shot up and I gained 15 pounds in a few months. Any written plant-based resources on the subject would help, also. Thank you.

I cook for my 85 year old meat loving father since Mom passed away. I love Mary's suggestions of taking a base meal like tacos and making a taco bar. Then your hubby can have his meat and you go for beans, or a pasta bar, pizza, etc. I cook out the meat in advance, portion it into ziplock bags and store it in the freezer. The base of the meal is vegan, then he adds the meat he wants. Mary's mushroom stroganoff is his favorite. I also don't talk about being vegan with him. I noticed over time he adds less meat. I guess that's progress for him.

This may sound stupid and generate some disagreement, but I wish the videos were shorter and more to the point. I'm giving the potato diet a go as being over 60 and developing a belly, I want to head off at the pass any heart/cholesterol issues. I've had high cholesterol my whole life. When I was 23 my cholesterol was 224, and that was not really eating much. The only time it was under 200 is when I was pretty much eating vegan and running 28 miles a week. The doctor I had at the time tried to put me on Fosomax and a statin. I dropped him. I tried to follow Michael Greger's plan? and initially felt great. Then after 4 months, I felt awful- I was gaining weight as I kept eating, though not hungry, but felt I needed "something". That didn't disappear until I had a hamburger patty. So there was a deficiency of something. I don't know what to do. I've never been able to eat a lot. Remember Dr. Stillman's water diet? Yep - I was 15 when I started that, as my mother hated ANY fat and that led to anorexia and I was never able to get under 105 lbs. which for my height was okay. Thankfully, I pulled myself out of that. Now that I'm old, anything I eat now goes right to the middle. Wish me luck. Any thoughts are appreciated.

I find it amazing that more people don’t call humans starchivores. By all definitions we are starchivores. If you look at world data, around 51% the calories consumed by humans globally comes from grains. An “ovore” is the food constituting more then 50% of the diet. A fruigivore gets more then 50% of their calories from fruit. An insectavore gets more then 50% of their calories from Insects. Humans get more then 50% of our calories from corn, wheat and rice alone. That doesn’t include beans and potatoes so I’m sure that number is a lot higher when looking at all starchy food. Humans are starchivores by the very definition of the word.

Interesting lecture as always. The only thing I don't understand is ... why are fruit sugars "worse" than starch ones? I can only eat two fruits ... or better if she doesn't eat them at all ... why? they have fiber and vitamins, they do turn into sugars, but probably not on any other basis than starch .... Please answer. There is nothing in the Bible about Daniel eating pods :) He asked for vegetables and water and only ate (and drank) this for 10 days.

So I've been eating low fat for months and for the first time in my LIFE my HDL is below 50, at 45 it's below where it's considered safe for a postmenopausal female. I work out regularly, lift weights and do cardio. Historically, while including meats, this would put me at around 64 HDL. Not anymore... I sure would like to hear the good Dr. discuss what happens to cholesterol levels when eating like this for a long time...we know he doesn't agree with the system and its parameters but isn't HDL kind of important to keep up? Total cholesterol and LDL can be low, but not that HDL... Now, I know what he'd say..."If you're not eating any fat or cholesterol, why would you need high HDL, anyway?" Uhm, because the body makes its own cholesterol whether we eat it or not. So can we get a fresh video discussing the newest science on cholesterol and what really matters for heart health? There's cutting-edge stuff out there these days.

Saying that it’s far better to eat high fat high protein in the morning, I’d love to hear what Dr. McDougall says about that!

I've seen some nonsensical attempts at the gladiators energy drink on the net. 1. The vinegar used is brewed vinegar, not distilled. 2. The fenugreek parts used were obviously not the seeds, tastes 'orrible, try the leaves, there is plenty Strontium there. Expect to use about half an (English) pound - 227g, if you want a medically relevant dose I may be trying this out at the allotment bonfire get together this year? It will be organic, perhaps with wooden swords....

fenugreek leaves - weight before(?) / after(?) burning medical dose for strengthening bones, would need to be taken daily though, shouldn't think one off dose would harm, calculated from www.phytojournal.com/vol3Issue4/Issue_nov_2014/26.1.pdf (could do with being checked by a doctor)
