@sweatpantsprincess32393 жыл бұрын
Ah, Joy has been struggling with plucking for as long as I've followed this channel, which is several years. She increases the behavior when there are increases in her stress, such as big living space changes. But like Jessi says, she's working with some notable past trauma, so all they can do is offer her the most safe and fulfilling home possible. Offering enrichment and giving her love does help it improve, as long as she also has stability. It definitely is sad to see, but she was using that maladaptive coping for years, so it probably will take as many years to unlearn? :(

With so many animals clicker trained in the house, do you ever have trouble clicking for an animal in one room, and the animals in the room over getting agitated?
@eaglgenes1013 жыл бұрын
I would guess that it's determined by context. If a human is directing commands to some other animal, then that other animal will be the one to receive treats when the clicker sounds.

@maquinaf13 жыл бұрын
@@kimunthank9991 and did you know that the blue and gold macaw and the green wing macaw are from Brazil too? and that there is a law here? and that to have one here requires authorization from Ibama, which is the environmental agency here, to have wild birds here like the Macaws, the ring is not my fault. The spix are extinct, it is authorized to have legalized Macaws here, they are not taken from nature, and we cannot have a spix macaw here, as they are almost extinct, which is incredible, isn't it?

@@jessical4866 birds as huge as macaws can weigh almost 1kg (about 2 pounds)... it doesn't seem like a lot, but you'll notice it pretty quickly! but any regular exercise for your arms should do it. the most basic might be just get a 5lb dumbbell and hold it for a while, or move it around.

I so appreciate Animal Wonders rescuing sick, disabled and mistreated animals. However, many animals should never be bred in captivity. Large parrot breeds are included in that group.
@sweatpantsprincess32393 жыл бұрын
But all Animal Wonders can do to fix that is to continue to use their rescues to promote education about animal needs, and goodness knows they do that to the best of their abilities.

I don't think a bird needs another bird companion to be content (not saying you should put them with any other animal! Big nono!). Sure, they have flocks in the wild, so many people consider them to be social animals (as I did when I was a kid) but those are out of food/survival, protection from predators (which as long as you, the human, have a good relationship with your bird, they aren't going to see you as a threat), rather than being extroverted, as I doubt they bond to most of the birds they're surrounded by in the wild. Usually it's just one or two birds, a mate or sometimes a friend in the wild. But as long as they're not already bonded to a bird or have bonded with a bird previously in captivity they should be fine with just a human friend. (If otherwise, they may want/need a companion bird to spend their time with, however it's a case by case basis) It's a harmful mantra to say, because what happens with a lot of bird owners, they see that they're bird isn't happy (for whatever reason) they might think they need companionship (which they might, but not necessarily with a bird when you can provide them with it YOURSELF!)
