38:50 it’s not that chiropractors are “scam artists” many times they are the strongest believers in it. Chiropractics as a field though is very pseudoscientific, the “good” ones are basically physical therapists without going to medial school, and the bad ones can easily hurt you. The actual adjustments haven’t been proven to do much, as imbalances are primarily caused my muscular-skeletal imbalances, and bigger studies seem to conclude it’s basically placebo.

YES this comment needs to be boosted! I'm sure Maya's cousin just wants to help people who are desperate and in pain, but there is very little scientific evidence behind it! The guy who invented it literally said the method came to him from a spirit during a seance! It's crazy how popular chiropractics is in the US but with healthcare being so expensive, many people will resort to any whack methods before seeing a medically trained professional.

There is nearly universal consensus that chiropractic is straight up pseudoscience. No cushioning it here. Most pseudoscience has some stuff that works/makes you feel better. It might make you feel better, but seeing a chiropractor is no more effective than other pseudoscience, like traditional pre-modern medical traditions.

They also have a vested interest in lying to their clients about their problems. an acquaintances dad had cancer and the chiro refused to recommend going to an actual doctor.

Chiropractors might do things that help people feel better, like stretching or knowing some good positions to be in, but none of that is exclusive to them and their main service has been shown time and time again to be harmful. But people still go, and use anecdotal evidence to encourage others to, not having any idea how good or bad a chiropractor someone finds might be. Almost like there's a reason people get medically approved before being allowed to do things to people's bodies.

@eleanor66817 ай бұрын
Maya I work at a physical therapy clinic and my mom is a PT- please try stretching & strengthening your hamstrings, hips, abs & glutes before you see a chiropractor! benefits from chiropractic adjustments would likely be temporary (if at all) if the muscles surrounding the bones to stabilize them aren’t strong. if not it would likely be a repeated cycle of getting adjustments, kind of like what you were saying with the medicine you previous had.
@eleanor66817 ай бұрын
also make sure to strengthen lower core with abs as well!

Chiropractors work for animals (especially horses), but not humans. Animal skeletons are way bigger in comparison. So when something gets out of whack, it takes force to put it back to how it should be, which animals can't do themselves (no arms having losers). Human skeletons are very fickle in comparison. Using force on it does only damage - if not to the bones, surely to the ligaments or nerves surrounding them. Massages and physical therapy are the way to go, always.

For lower back pain - cat cows, glute bridges, bird dogs, and other movements targeting those muscles with usually resistance bands rather than weights could help. I go to a physical therapist / have been for a few months, as you strengthen those muscles the pain ceases. Check with a spinal specialist if you think it’s a cyst or other spinal disk injury, but likely a stronger core and supportive chair/bed and more active lifestyle will make a huge impact on your pain

I think if considering a chiropractor it’s good to know what your issue is first, because people with certain issues are at more risk of things going very wrong. Get scans done, see specialists, get proper diagnoses, do physiotherapy (usually the most effective long term treatment for low back pain), but if the experts think a chiropractor is safe for you then I think it’s probably safe (from someone qualified of course). I’m pretty sure the qualifications of chiropractors are supposed to involve them studying the dangers of certain areas of the body so they know how to practice it safely, but not everyone necessarily has those important qualifications. Also, I’ve had issues with low back pain it took years to realise was connected to my menstrual cycle so if you have “flare ups” it might be worth keeping track of to see if there’s any patterns observable.

I never get to be the fitness bro in the comments BUT for everyone saying don't go to the chiro, for "quick" relief I recommend it FOLLOWED BY physical therapy or some other regimen, consistent yoga practice would be fine. Most PTs learn to do adjustments now though if you just want to start there. The problem is a lot of people do nothing outside of going for 15 minutes a week at the chiro lol so a PT will get you out of the patterns that are causing the pain. Also when I used to go, I wasn't comfortable having my neck cracked so I would have them adjust me with the table, called a "drop table". Also while I'm here, barring a physical issue, "tightness" usually has more to do with the brain not letting you go past a certain range than the muscles physically not being able to. So entering a range + training in that new range = flexibility. That's why yoga works so well (: Ok bye! Lmao
