The fuel mileage is noticeable but not to the point of not making money, the problem here is that moving as a o/o for around $1.20 a mile you will go bankruptcy, 4 weeks drive at $1.20 = $15k, 4 weeks drive at $2.00 per miles = $25k So yes that $2k fuel savings doesn't do much when you're getting $10k less per month The problem is the pay per mile not the fuel mileage economy

I run a Cascadia Evolution i with a DT12 transmission and 2.42 rears. I keep the cruise at 65 mph and only get 6.2 average. Just because you have an areodynamic truck doesn't mean you're going to get high fuel mileage.

It's true. I am running Cascadia 2024, brand new. I haul heavy loads of grain in AB, SK, MB to ND, SD(64k lbs) with tridem hopper. My dashboard showed 7.1 mpg average. But i hauled dry van 42k lbs from Idaho to NS or NB. Average is only 6.7 mpg. The reasons would be low mountain but very strong wind and heavy traffic in big cities. I don't take heavy loads to east coast if prices is not reasonable.

Well, it depends to get a used truck and pay for the problem that's going to come with It, i would try and get that new Volvo if you are going to keep working for atleast 7 more years the fuel mileage they are saving on those sounds good. From one used truck to another, hmm maybe almost new. but these truck no matter which one they like the shops.

I understand that ET is in business to make money, but let's not ignore the elephant in the room. When i did the quick math on the statements, with fuel surcharge this poor guy is making $1.67 per mile. The solution here isn't to buy another truck and get further in debt, its to find a new company to work for that pays a wage where you're not losing money on every mile you run.

Sorry to say that this O/O needs to find a different part of the industry to haul in. Run all long hood Pete’s here. My best MPG one has the C15 set at 800hp and I’m getting anywhere between 5-6MPG, less if I’m heavier than usual. Others are down around the 3.5 ish range. I mainly haul over 100k lbs gross and often pull two trailers. Bottom line is there needs to be better rates. Using a big hood truck to haul 1.50-1.80 a mile freight just doesn’t work. It certainly doesn’t pan out for us smaller companies even with more aerodynamic and fuel efficient trucks.

Same, I’m at the same power level with a 53 flatbed. Heavy in the mountain region I get 5.1-5.3mpgs, light loads(60k gross) in flat lands I get 6.5-7mpgs. Wind also affect me but not much with a flatbed, when I pulled a van it was a nightmare, weight matter, wind did.

So much depends on the driver. I ran for an outfit hauling Super B's loaded with 40 tonne of fertilizer to the same location. With two basically identical trucks (W900 v 589) I pulled 30% fuel mileage constantly. I would cruise about 102 KPH and the other guy ran about 118 KPH.

Well, if your owner operator is only making a $1.15 per mile after expenses I wouldn't even get out of bed, put my pants on or even start my truck for that but company is making like $2.00 or better a mile so dont bs ppl about how the company is struggling, because you're not, I guarantee you're not as a company and owner operators is getting ripped off by company and thats fact

For real man. Where I'm at they pay company drivers $1.10 per mile to haul heavy duty and medium duty chassis vehicles. I know it's different freight, but I pay attention to the market and there's good freight out there if you can squeak through the first year of your own authority.

You are spot on with the fuel part of the conversation but if truck is paid for buying a new or new to you truck and an Apu with the high maintenance of emission trucks you can't get good enough fuel mileage to offset that

There are couple important things that driver needs to take into consideration in order to stay profitable and efficient. 1- Choosing the correct specs for your operation. This is super important if you wanna improve your fuel consumption. That includes your driving behavior and speed. 2- Fuel card. You have to get fuel card with good fuel discount. I personally saved $6500 last year from my fuel card. 3- Maintenance and prevent idling. Any modern truck with emissions can have emission related problems if you keep idling them.

Older trucks often are fuel-inefficient but newer trucks are often quite expensive. Is a dilemma so many owner-operators face.

Ronin, Captivated (yes for real) by your videos. In my first career I used my own fleet of T&T's in Forest Product Distribution. Next was Cybersecurity. Both more than 20 years. What I've learned is that I love trucks and love the road. Now, with newly minted CDL, I'm looking for regional or national driving. Not many of my contemporaries have owned 6 companies or even have an MBA. (Probably a reason that I love your analytics) Do you think, that with my level of experience, I would be jumping-the-gun to buy or lease on? Additional wrinkle: 24 year-old grandson with new CDL is a career I want to help get a good start. He loves trucks and the road too. I think he wants to be like Grandpa. LOL. Thought?

I have 2.98 gears with a maxed out dd15 in a 2024 cascadia with a 275 in wheelbase. I do 65 to 70. Pretty much everywhere, and I run about 70% loaded. It's a lowboy hauling chassis trucks and depending on the load it can be as low as 6 MPG or as high as 8 MPG loaded. I've tried slowing down to save on fuel, but it just doesn't make sense for me. The extra $400 a week in fuel. It's minuscule compared to the extra 400 miles i get running at $2.54 a mile all miles. I net at least $4,000 most weeks and up to $7,000 or more on a really good week.

I reach out to ET, recruiter said they do not recruit in USA, But Also I told him I will not cross Canada Boarder, per Us border always gives me a problem getting back in Us for some reason, and I way born and raise here, I been in this business for 33 years, And Penske leasing burn me 2 years ago, stole 18,600 out of my account for leases I never had, And now I hear freight rates are way down, But I always make $1200 a day per truck just doing short hauls 300 mile radius of Cincinnati, Oh at no less than $500 per load, 100 mile minimum, I had my own Authority but because of Penske stealing, I had to shut down 2 trucks, I could not pay commercial Insurance, and way already thrown out of court once over a Trump laws,

Are you talking about 0.95 Cad net or USD that OO makes ? If in Cad, it's still bad. OO have to run heavy loads while company drivers are dispatched with lighter loads because it makes more profits for company => 6.7 or 6.9 mpg is normal in heavy traffic east coast area.

fuel mileage isn't the issue ... the problem is these "owner-op" are clueless and your screwing them over at $1.67 per mile $10,100 / 6031 miles and let hope that is total miles and not just loaded miles... sure saving $1000 a month in fuel would be great but the bigger issue is they are running unprofitable freight ...

This video is literally the best! Here in Brazil I am a fleet manager, where I manage 1300 sets. Diesel savings for me equals road safety! NON-NEGOTIABLE! If Diesel has no control, the self-employed person becomes an employee, and the company goes bankrupt. Here in Brazil with all the adversities such as mountains, lack of structure, trucks are for 30 pallets, 45 tons of total gross weight. Our average is 2km and 700 meters with 1 liter of diesel! 2.70km/L There is no air conditioning, you have to feel cold and hot....

The flat nose trucks feel a lot safer than the aerodynamic. The aerodynamic trucks are thrown around by the wind or level of pavement. If you wanna get a full experience on this drive in northern Ontario in windy slippery. Companies but these aerodynamic trucks just to safe money and don’t care about true safety on the road. There should be that big of a difference in your fuel usage. If you have an old Cat motor find someone to do a good tune on it with lots of horsepower but don’t use the horse power drive it gently this will still cost more fuel then a new cascadia but it’s worth it. Pulling a tandem axles trailers go with a high gear ratio nothing lower than 3,46. I have a 2025 western star 49x 18 speed eaton 3,46 ratio I run to steinbach MB weekly from southern Ontario I’m never more than 30,000kg gross and a lot of empty miles and I’m getting 5.6 MPG however it’s been really windy since o last reset the dash. The saying that it’s the old truck that cost fuel is a lie. Before I had this truck I had a 2024 49x 12 speed Detroit transmission 3,70 rears and the fuel usage was very very close to the same. Before that I had a 2007 9900i with a C15 tuned and I burned about 60 litres more in a week with that truck then I did with the 2024 49x 12 speed Detroit but that old truck was whole lot nicer as far handling on the road with wind and slippery conditions. I should add this 2025 I have now hast driven out in nice yet at all I got it last November. I am hoping it will perform better in the summer. Be careful with this new stuff the automatic transmissions are very different even if they tell you that there not. I recommend Volvo over Detroit if you are gonna go that way. Do your research on (eCoast) something that a lot of automatic transmissions have. The 2023 had it I ended up turning it off and my fuel mileage was better after I turned it off. Detroit guys will try to talk you into it but don’t fall for it from their perspective. Do your research! It takes an open minded person to adapt to all the new stuff
