I really hate being a wet blanket. But those underground cooling tubes need to be 10-12" diameter at a minimum. 10' deep. I researched this alot 20 years ago. Small pipes don't do much good. Slow draw fans best.

Regarding your underground air cooling system, I seem to recall reading that there is an optimum ration pipe diameter to length, where a small diameter pipe will over restrict airflow. Nice concept though, seen many of them on Earthships.

When I was about 10 years old and lived in Anson, TX, I hung out at my Dad's ice house. There were some old retired guys there also watching the dispensing and delivery of ice. I asked one of these guys how I could make some money. He told me how to catch horned toads and I put them in a box at the ice house and tried to sell them to tourists for pets. I did not sell any and he advised me to put a sign up saying BABY DINOSAURS. I sold out in a day.

I love the bird feeder! I miss California desert, The red crested finch and the cactus wrens and gnatcatchers are so cool to watch, do you get road runners out there too? I miss my gardens, I had miniature ice plants , I love the beautiful deep pink flowers and the various stone crops I had, there are so many pretty unique ones that grow so easily, like the Lantana you have there, Love those and the Ocotillo . The horned toad is so cute! I love solar lights, and things, saves a lot on electricity. I have been using a clap Led light 3 watts or 5 I forget but it is on constantly, I had it for 4 years now running the whole time. Awesome work getting things ready to start new adventures!

You need a machine like that all of the time. The bigger machines cost less than those compact machines. A good older 50 hp American made machine should be $5,000 to $10,000. Good condition compacts usually are $15,000 to $30,000 used. Your columns need diagonal bracing so that a wind gust doesn't blow everything down. Good Luck, Rick

What are you going to do about condensation gathering in the pipe? In earth ships they are built into hills and the entire pipe is angled down away from the house so the condensation can drain onto the ground because the inlet is lower than the outlet. That's not possible in flat land. You could have a pump at the lowest point, but then you said it was complete passive and a pump isn't.
@tobysmith36686 ай бұрын
Drill holes in the bottom of the pipe and it will drain. You're right, this is critical to good function! Along with covering the entrance opening well. I'm adding this system myself.

The Relative Humidity is less than 10%. It will not condense, because the dew point is below earth temperature & plastic PVC does not conduct heat very well.

hi, there is nice buildings you have there. even if it is a off grid house it wont mean that it lacks things that a normal house have. there is many off grid homestead people that is basically living whit everything that "normal" people have whit toalet/ ac/ bathroom/ computer rooms/ kitchens and so on. it takes a little more to be off grid but that do not mean that you cant have things. like solar can give you electricity, rain can give you water, you can burn your waste, animals like chickens and rabbits can give you meat/ eggs and the manoure that the chicken and rabbits produce can go into a compost bin then you take the compost and put it on the garden and that could help you to grow diffrent things, and if you have bees then that can boost things you grow in your garden meanwhile the bees gives you honey and wax and stuff. what i mean is that if you are willing to do the work then you can live more then decent whit a off grid living. anyhow hope you have a great day :)

Wondering what the cost of the Earth tube system is??? Also curious about how large your property is? It looks very large, but perhaps that is because we don't see nearby buildings in the camera shots you take? Beautiful dog in this video! the cactus and other desert plants and creatures are all very interesting from someone who doesn't often see these. Thanks for sharing your ideas for an Earth tube system I can't wait to see how well it works when the really hot weather comes in.

I understand the idea and concept of the Earth Tubes, but, my question is... How deep are you planning to dig to place them? 5 feet, 10 feet, 15? I assume it will be a forced air return system and not a heat pump type with the fluid filled pipe set in pearlite. You have enough of a power lead to have mounted the bird feeder solar panel to the back side of the gutter board and set to face the full days sunlight.
