Great, informative video. I'm looking at your Rockwood Model and ran across you channel. New subscriber. Now I'm a bit worried since I will be traveling, most of the time alone. I was looking today for a dealer within 200 miles for this model and noticed they are including the TPMS with the sale. I thought it was strange then I started watching your video and it made complete sense. I will negotiate a better price considering I will definitely be changing out the tires. I do hope everyone that has this issue reports this to the NHTSA. If enough people report this problem, they will issue a recall and these tires can be taken care of due to the nature of the danger this may cause. Have a great day.

Thank you for watching and subscribing. More great videos are in the works! The new models do come with TPMS and that is great. I believe every trailer out there should have this feature. Many folks have had great success with the OEM Castle Rock tires, and there are a lot of stories about the tires failures; probably more so than any other brand. I could tell the difference in the "substantialness" of the Goodyears over the Castle Rocks and now have a piece of mind when towing. Unlike the Goodyears, I could never find a tire inflation guide for the Castle Rocks. This guide tells you the load bearing ability of the tire at certain pressures. This forces you to use max PSI or near it. Good luck in your journey!

@@OurCoupledAdventure Thanks... I'll need it. Can't find the floor plan with the theater seats. Really do not need the dinning and nice to get the legs up after a long active day too! I will keep watching :)

Hi! I'm looking to get this TPMS system. I have a mini lite 2109 that has a cold tire pressure of 65psi. As someone who has used this system at 65psi, how does the system work past 70psi? This system is only rated to 70psi.

We have had no issues with that. Now that we run the Goodyear endurance tires, we set our pressure at 58 per the GY inflation guide.

Hello my friend. Well the latest question for you not to exceed more than 2 at a time. So my rockwood ultralite one bedroom 2506s yr.2020 is in my front yard It is 98 % humidity in here and all the plugs and such i bought are fore the 30 amp. ok i got that but want to hook to house to run air andtip out but cant plug into anything any suggestions. I have a the thick organge cord for elctric saws and such can you help

Hi George. You can buy a 30amp to 15 adaptor. However, 15 amp house power will not be enough to run your RV AC. You can run lights, water pump , or TV, But AC will trip the circuit 99 times out of 100. We use Damp Rid in our RV to combat humidity. We also had a 50 amp circuit installed at the house to plug the RV in so we can run the AC and fridge. A little pricey though at about 500 bucks.

I am electrically handy. I installed a 240/50A rv outlet. #6 wires. For a 30A 120v you need #10 wires to a dedicated 30A breaker. Current code is gfi, but that will lead to lots of tris. Put the gfis closer to the user ( rv panel).

Now that you've had it a while how do you like the TPMS? I need to get one for our new 2506S and the price on this unit is very reasonable.

It is priceless! For the price it is a good unit. TIP: be sure that if you get this unit, as probably with the others, the plastic cap is tight on the unit on the valve stem. I lost a cap on one trip. Tire minder sent me a new one. Happy Adventures!

Hello fellow rockwood owner. Not sure if you know or not but there is a forest river forum for rockwood. I've been reading since wife and I got our new rockwood. There are 100s of post about the China bomb tires. Some people get 5000 miles some people get 1200 miles before one explodes. A few even had more then one explode a few hundred miles from the first one blowing. A very small amount never have an issue but tons of people do. I think I even read 6 to 8 post were people went from dealer right to the tire shop ( one even had pictures at dealer and tire shop ) Thats how bad a reputation they have. Some people have had 1000s of dollars damaged depending on whats above the wheel well. Sad thing is you cant get upgraded tires even when you order an rv as we did. I'd guess 90% of the people that change them out go to Goodyear endurance. Their made in the usa. Our fridge is above one of our wheel wells so we made the decision to not take a chance and with only 800 miles we had 5 new Goodyear endurance tires installed. Cant believe how much heavier the goodyears are over the cheap factory tires. We now have load E instead of load D that came with the factory tires. Just got back from a 500 mile trip and new tires had no issues. Glad I watched your video as my new tires are 80 psi cold and can't use the same tpms you got do to higher pressure. Glad you didnt get hurt or have major damage. Have a Jesus filled day Greg in Michigan 2019 rockwood 2606ws 2018 Nissan titan xd Cummins turbo diesel Ps I'll take $125 for all 5 bombs if you interested.🤔

Hi Greg, thanks for watching the video. My reference was to the "big picture" of how many of these tires are actually on the road compared to the owners who have issues. They are not the best tires for sure and a number of folks do have the problem. We were just hoping to be the luckier ones LOL. We are part of the forums and find the Rockwood forum to have one of the best communities. The TPMS (and not having the stereo blasting loud) probably saved us the $!000's of dollars in damage, so a well spent $157. The trailer will not move until we replace the tires with GY. How does the Titan diesel tow? Oh, and I plan on donating mine to the lawn guy down the street!

@@OurCoupledAdventure We bought a new 2004 titan and had it for 14 years. The ONLY thing other then maintenance that broke / stop working was the fuel pump. So we decided to get another one because of our positive experience with the 2004. My inlaws stay the winter in zephyrhills and over the years we've made 19 trips from Michigan to Florida. I just retired and we gifted ourselves a new rv and truck. The trailer is a rockwood ultra lite 2606ws. Its 6365 lbs empty so we upgraded to a bigger truck so we wouldn't have issues going over the Rockies if we ever decide to go west. As far as the truck, we've had it one year now and love it! Ive never owned a diesel truck before or one with this much pulling capacity The xd is what Nissan calls a 5/8 ton. Bigger then 1/2 smaller then 3/4. All of the big 3 here where I live were 9 to 12 thousand more then the 5/8 Nissan. I will never pull a rv longer then mine (30 feet ) and never heavier ( ours maxes out a 8000 lbs ) so I figured why spend the extra to pull way, way more then I'll ever pull. Our truck is rated to pull 12400 lbs so it pulls great. Non pulling highway my best mpg is 22.5. When pulling our ( guessing) 7300 lbs loaded rv, the worst mpg with a strong head wind was 9.1mpg Best was 13.1 mpg I enjoy your videos. ( we had a mini lite before ourselves ) Been to WDW a few times ourselves and plan to return. Have a great day and happy camping Greg in Michigan

Great info on the truck since we are in the market for a more capable tow vehicle. Congrats on the retirement, I pull the plug next Friday. We plan on going west into the mountains. We would also love to see the UP of Michigan. Safe travels and thanks for watching and the feedback!!

Oh no! And to break down on 1-4... yikers. Can you change a tire with just one person? I am still trailer hunting so I'm trying to pick up as much info as I can before I get on the road in a few months! I am definitely getting a system like this and hopefully I can lay the instructions on my face like you did and it will sink in :)
@OurCoupledAdventure
@OurCoupledAdventure 5 жыл бұрын
Yep you know I-4. Changing a tire is a non-event IF you have the right tools. If you have a single axle trailer then you will need a jack. If you have a tandem (which I prefer) axle trailer then you can use a trailer aid ramp.We did call the road ranger to park behind us and Create a safe zone with his truck. They are not allowed to change tires on RV's. Watch our other video on important tools to have for this task. Yes you alone can change a tire.

That's a China bomb tire, for sure. Looks like plain old cord failure to me. No way a TPMS could have predicted such a failure. If the tire had been losing air and getting hot, you might have seen that going on. Another factor in China bombs or any other tire is the date it's made. Tires generally only have a shelf live similar to a can of beans, but without the 'sell by' date handy stamped on it. All tire makers are required to put a 'made date' on the tire, but most folks don't know how or where to read it. Here's a pic link showing typical made date, it's the last 4 numbers in the group near the tire bead. In this example the number is 3408, which means the 34th week of 2008. Good tire makers warranty the tire for 4 years from purchase or 5 years from the week they're made. www.testingautos.com/car_care/images/tire-manufacturing-date.jpg

Thanks for watching and your comment. You are absolutely correct that a TPMS would not detect a true "china bomb". What it did do was let us know the tire had blown so we did not continue down the road tearing up the trailer. As for the tire dates, they were manufactured in the same year the trailer was built. so they were only about a year old when this happened. My inspection of the tire, and the guy at the tire shop where we had the Goodyears installed, agreed it was simply a cheap tire cord failure. I never could find an inflation chart for the Castle Craps (Rocks) tire so this forces one to use max inflation, which is not always best, especially with these cheap tires. Inflation is based on weight to be carried. This means often the tires don't need to be at max inflation to carry the load. The Goodyear chart says the tires can be as low as something like 40psi and still carry the load of our trailer. I think that is a little low since a low tire creates more rolling resistance and can affect mpg. We run our Goodyears at 55-58 psi based on the chart and the weight of the trailer and it has worked perfectly!
