I'm still around, I am a custom home builder as well as a KZbinr and we found the perfect land to build our dream farmstead. My husband was hit by a car right when we started framing the house's second floor and we were told we had to stop public appearance's for court sake. He's somewhat better, and court has finally decided and we're are able to be back in the public eye again. I was also, super busy with building the house by myself as John could not help. He was to be my electrician on this one and so I hired local boys to teach them a trade and wired the house with his tutelage backing us. I ended up doing about 40% of the work in the house, once it was boxed in, myself. Plus getting supplies in was a nightmare. It took four months just to get our overhead garage doors! All the while, we also still have Kate a few days a week. What normally took me 240 days to build, took me a year and 3 months to build. We also set up the farm itself , with chickens and coop. So the animals are starting to come in. I do all the mowing (6 acres) each week and take care of most odd jobs. I also had a heart attack during the build and kept going a week later, I was up on the ladders, hanging light fixtures! I am back however, and we did make a video about all this, but couldn't bring myself to post a 'Oh Dear Us' type video. People out there are having harder times than us right now and I seem to focus on the day ahead, not the day I feel like crying. Thank you for inquiring and we hope this message reaches many. Hi Janie, I did EXTENSIVE research to make my own laundry detergent, and still for years never dared to try. I always came back to your vid because I knew you were THE authority on diy recipes. Finally yesterday I did it and clothes look/smell so clean. Thank you so much for sharing so much knowledge over the years :D I join your other fans in wishing you'd let us know you're doing well. Health being the most important thing of course, but happiness comes from knowing you are loved too! So I hope you and your loved ones are doing good, and if not, we've got nothing but love and support for you. You've taught us so much! 2 years since the last post, and as you can see, we still send good wishes your way :D All our best,

You are so sweet! Thank you! The building of the new house and the new farm set up has been a long road after hubby was hit by a car and I had a mild heart attack from stress. I ended up dong the entire build, without hubby. Supplies took forever to get and we finally got in the house where I could make all my custom cabinets on sight. I had to tile the bath, kitchen, laundry and two fireplace fronts as well. IT took 5 months just to get my island top stone installed. I had two other builds for clients and design work for three others during this time as well...so, I made an exec decision to walk away from YT channel for awhile, so that I could get the build completed and get our move done. It was hard without hubby or family near to help. I had to clear out 4 warehouses and spent six months going thru 70 totes of 30 yrs of military and household goods -- giving half my belongings away to locals. I am back, doing the landscaping! I am filming canning and homestead videos again. I did film some of the build but it was hard being the camera man and doing that kind of labor so camera got lost in the shuffle. LOL Thank you, so much, for sticking with us during this hard season in life. Hugs to you too!

How did you find this property?
@OurLittleHomestead4 жыл бұрын
We drove every Saturday in a 9 mile grid, starting in the area we needed to be in and that was, for us, the most desirable, then after seeing the high prices, if you could even find land parcels under a million, we decided due to costs of acreage, we'd have to go outside of our grid area by a few miles. We moved our grid north west twice, and then, one day drove by this property as they were setting up the sign in the yard. My husband pointed and said, let's stop and get the numbe; which of course I agreed, and we both just fell in love with the rolling hills, the Sugar Creek behind us, Deer standing in the edge of the woods. We both knew instantly. I got out of the car and called the number on the sign (guy pounding in sign was just that, a sign setter) and I stood next the sign, as I got appointment for 1 hour later to meet the agent's son ... He was kind of jerky to us...like we were wasting his time ... and, the next day, I went to my daughters who, one is a Managing CPA for a Forbes firm, and, the other my financial Investor for Merrill Lynch and asked if it was feasible for me to buy more land. I told them the price, which was $64K as it was farther out vs. $250-$500 per five acres in our original search area. 'The very next day, we made an offer, and since it was in a family trust, it took two days to get three ppl to sign in different states, but I had the land, free and clear in a closing not soon after that ....,BUT.... before closing, I made sure it was 'buildable' and not in a flood zone; I basically paid to go through all the steps of pulling a development permit, It took several weeks to get a "pre-approval' ( the county only lets you build on NON- farm field ground) and since a house had been there and a good well and such...good drainage, It checked out and we went to closing once I got county zoning pre-approval. I then had to go through a mini-subdivision developement route with surveyors, meetings, letters, more meetings, but in six months I had it "BUILDABLE" officially. Then, I had to go thru the hoops of getting a BUILDING PERMIT for just the house plans and septic updated. Most of that was free. So, six months into the purchase and I was enjoying my farmground, lining up cash renters and making farm plans with hubby! I put my house on the market as I don't want two houses, and I'm waiting for my buyers to get their house sold. Meanwhile, I got a call saying the ppl in the old house next door had died and left their land to the kids...and they all lived out of state and didn't want the land, I got offer before it went on auction. So, now, the offers were coming directly to me! I picked up all the ground I could around my barn/house area. The ground just appraised as buildable with a well, with electric and with pond area at three times what I paid for it, 1-1/2 years later. The land all around us is sky-rocketing. I bought in just in time. So, it pays to make the land 'buildable' before selling it. It does cost a few grand to get approved, but it is far more profitable to have it ready to pull a permit. The land owners did n't do that and I got the good end of the stick, since I'm a developer anyway. I use an old farm guide I bought years ago, on how to find ground that is buildable and usable for a good homestead with a a small farm set up. I search Land Watch as well for land. It's just really hard to find a good 3-20 acre pc of land these days for a good price that is buildable!

Two reasons: My husband was hit by a car...second reason, and I did post this video, I am building a house on my farmstead. I am a custom home builder and I've been swamped! I have three other houses going up as well in the Spring ... I do all design work, sales, and construction. My crews don't eat if I don't get the builds going. I've made and edited over 720 videos over the past 8 years... so, I guess making a living in times of troubles was the right thing for our family to do. Esp. with husband so laid up. Bills have to be paid. But I am grateful for everyone who knew this and has stuck it out with me! I have given so much...and now it's time for patience to prevail. I have made many videos of the house going up ...etc...but no time to edit or upload. ..... I'll be back with more videos soon. Janie & John Here's to new seasons!
