Great information Thank you. I am a beginner and I have not started canning yet. I want to learn and start preparing all my dry goods and my garden vegetables and fruit and herbs.

Tilt your shelves down in the back. It made a tremendous difference for the stores that did this during the recent Alaska earthquakes. It kept alot of the items from falling off of the shelves.

Thank you for this video. I have gone to Sam's club to get shelves when I moved into my home. I don't have a lot of room in a kitchen so that helped with a make shift pantry and I gone threw things in my stock pile and I even worked on taking some of my dry goods and vacuumed seal it for what I need in a recipe so that things wont have to stay open long when I need that item. Thank you for reminding me of things I would need to get for medical. Also I found touts are nice to have.

I just got a food saver and the jar lid sealers and hose. Now waiting on my dehydrator to arrive. I hope you do more videos on how to use those and what can be stored in the jars. I’m learning so much from you and I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us.

More to come! I am all packed up from my house being sold and started my farmhouse this week. Fences are up for the animals today; I'm hoping to get this done by winter so I can break out my canner and start making up for a year of canning lost due to having house packed up and in a warehouse all year! Err! But, yes, I'll be back in full swing doing steam juicing, jams, jellies, veggies, meats, and dehydrating!

Hi Janie, I appreciate all you share. You remind me of my mom that way! She taught me a lot! I have a question for you....When this all started (lockdown) I went to Sam's &loaded up. I bought #10 cans of nacho cheese,cheddar cheese & sausage gravy with intention of "recanning" it in smaller portions (1/2 pint &pints) how do you suggest I do it? Pressure can? Hot water bath? I've seen a couple videos how they can that cheese HWB for 20 minutes in 1/2pint jars. Im really curious about the sausage gravy though. Please help. Thanks &God Bless you! 🙂

I've really enjoyed your videos. You've helped me be brave when it comes to gardening and trying to store food long term. Im 59 years old and have slowed down quite a bit. But your videos help give me a positive attitude and the confidence to try new preps. I have a little garden this year and I have a stool that I sit on to tend the plants. 😁 But I just wanted to say thank you, and now that I hear your daughter and husband have covid, I pray all will be well.

You taught me how to pressure can in 2014 when I started watching your videos. I lovingly called you “❤️Janie the Mormon❤️”. My grma lived on a farm and canned everything- but she terrified me when I was about 10 years old - at some point she must have told me the canner could explode, so for the next 46 years of my life I wanted nothing to do with canners. After I started canning, I realized she just didn’t want us running around in her way. My two oldest grandsons have lived with us since 2011, and when I started canning they were little, so I told them the canner and the jars are really hot and the water is scalding, so you must stay away from the stove. I don’t want them to be like I was, 56 years old and determined to can, yet terrified STILL by my grma’s words. Janie ❤️“the Morman” ❤️ Pendleton and Linda’s Pantry - these 2 channels guided me, like they were holding my hand and I’m forever thankful for both of them! I’ve missed you Janie!!!

I'm not giving anything away right now with the uncertainty of things. Even if you get tired of something you will most likely eat it if there's nothing on the shelves in the stores. If for some reason my children and their families have to come home the oldsters have it covered. Hoping things aren't going to be that grim but this is what I prepped for. Thank you for all the tips, the dry canning videos helped me tremendously.

I'm a real estate agent in Lancaster, CA. I'm sorry you and the others went thru an unfortunate experience with buyers. As a full-time agent, I would always prequalify the buyer before they even write an offer. That means I have a lender qualify them by filling out a loan app and having then bring in their tax returns and running credit. All this before I show them a house. This also tells me what price home to look for. If it's anything a buyer hates is to find a home just to be told they don't qualify for the payment. I love your video. I remember my mother canned fruits and veggies. Boy, were they delicious.

I just joined your channel and my faith carries me too. I'm going to look you up on facebook. My ears perked up when you said you were gluten free. My husband and I are too. I'm not sure if you did these videos in the past but I'd like to know how to make flour from rice and beans. Plus how to make these alternative flours into baking flour. I'd love a good bread recipe. I'm looking into sourdough, but any will do that tastes good. It's better than $7 a half loaf. My husband can't give it up.

It's funny you wrote me about all this today; I looked up and several of my GF bread recipes are missing off YT !! I couldn't believe it. Anyway, I am uploading them today if I can find them off my harddrives. I've lost a few laptops to damages over the years on YT. I did find my Cranberry Bread Recipe, which I am posting in a few minutes with updated edits. Also, I still have up "Gluten Free FLOUR MIX with Janie Pendleton" . Start there and see what you think of that mix. I just switch out to sweet rice and sweet potato flours when I want a richer flour mixture for cookies and sweet breads, cakes... etc... Homemade breads for GF is different texture than reg bread making. I teach you how to find that texture. I teach you how to store rice and beans for dry oven canning to use in emergency for baked goods in emergency as well. You just grind into flour and viola, you have GF flours that make a complete protein. I've been GF for over 7 years. It changed my life! I'll upload the cranberry bread video now...

I was given 7 buckets of wheat berries, that were stored outside in the open texas weather for 6 year's. I hate to open them to see if their still good. Can you tell me what the chances are that their still viable; or what I can do to salvage them? I appreciate any advice.
@OurLittleHomestead4 жыл бұрын
As far as I know, wheat berries don't get rancid if they're sealed away from moisture and oxygen. Did the person put in Oxygen Absorbers? I do know that as long as they don't smell bad and aren't moldy or full of bugs, I'd say they're still good. Grind some up and try them! No sense sitting on them any longer...I'm sure they are nearing their life's end either way, open one bucket up and smell them, look for molds and bugs...if they look and smell fresh...I'd grind them up and make flour, take the rest of freeze them away in 1 gallon containers or vacuum seal again and label to use up quickly.

Thank you so much for the help. I believe they do have oxygen absorbs. I will get brave and open one up. Again thank you.

is there an email address I can send a question to about your dry laundry soap recipe? thank you.
@OurLittleHomestead4 жыл бұрын
What's up? I'm here to answer your questions! !/2 cup per load liquid version and 1-Tbsp per load powder version. If you need ingredients they are sold in Laundry isle at most grocery discount stores as well. If you like, you can add booster crystals. I no longer add the glycerin. It just didn't make enough difference for the cost to add it in. For the powder, you can half the recipe. Arm & Hammer is the brand I use for the Baking Soda and Washing Soda ...if you can not find Washing Soda, you can make it in a low oven till baking soda turns to granular powder...a new chemical that you can not bake with any longer! it takes about 2 hours in a low oven on a cookie sheet, but the baking soda will change over to a new chemical compound; called Washing Soda. I use Zote. I love it's whitening ability. Others use Fels Naptha, and in other countries, ppl use palmolive, dove, tide, etc...bars, or laundry bars they have. They seem to be happy with this either bar they use. I like the liquid best, but the powder only takes up a 1 gallon space vs 10 gallons of the liquid version. So, I mostly make the powder, esp for family. Both are HE safe and ppl tell me it does not hurt there septic systems. I'm getting ready to go on country well and septic and my repair man says he uses my recipe with no issues. I hope that answers your questions (I went off most asked questions). If not, here is my FB page (DrJanie Pendleton), join me there and ask in messenger! Thanks and Blessings for a great year ahead. Janie
