As a restorer I find best way to remove paint from detailed wood is with a air welder fitter with a flat vinyl tip. These tools are designed to melt and not burn or vaporize because brittle plastic or a brown scorch mark on your vinyl will defeat its purpose. Consequently the warm air it produces makes it an ideal paint removing tool. The paint just peels off like a banana peel in large sections. These use to be $900 but they are now down to $90. I could adjust the speed of the fan and the heat setting from 0 to 2000 degrees on the one that I own. I think this welder is one of the best kept secrets.

You have the patience of a Saint! Stripping woodwork is so tedious and slowww! I grew up in a 1927 dutch colonial with gorgeous cherry woodwork. We stripped many rooms and the bannister and ugh! Hahaha Nice job!!! Good luck! Thank you for sharing and making videos!! -John

I'm pretty sure she is using the cobra infrared heater. I've heard some good things. I bought the silent paint remover because it was slightly cheaper and found it to be a decent tool for large flat surfaces with lead paint

Bless you, Laine. Thank you for your interesting videos. But I'm worried for you. If the paint is smoking, there has to be some lead paint in there, vaporized. Can you keep it from getting that hot, and scrape it? Thanks for sharing your tools! God bless you both. You do an incredible job.

It is infrared, not ultrasonic - if anybody's googling it. :)

Why on earth did they paint this post? It's almost the exact color of the raw wood.

The striping is good but the liquid is better just let it soak in and wipe out..

Even though it's not vaporizing, you are still inhaling the smoke right ? Just curious, because then you will be inhaling smoke, verses dust, not sure if there is is much of a difference in the negative effects it would have on the lungs ! You do such fabulous work, I just love everything you do for these grand old houses !!! 😉

Does the tool get all paint layers in one go? Or would you need several rounds for surfaces that have been painted multiple times?

Ultrasonic or Infrared? I'm thinking it's actually infrared.

@@OurRestorationNation That is what I thought it was. I searched for this particular video again because I want to get one. Restoring our 1903 home and used citrus strip which is SO slow. Then used my heat guns on latex. BUT now have tested other areas of home and they are all lead paint and so many layers. It will be worth the cost because I can also use it on the outside porch railings where paint is 1/8 thick. Keep up the great work! I so enjoy your videos, all of them!

I've never seen an ultrasonic heat gun before (that sounds so Space age) I don't know if they sell these in the UK. I've learnt something new today. Stay safe everyone 💕

I will not scold, but I venture to guess that the smoke is in-fact "vaporised" lead, n'est-ce pas? I'm just being a smart-ass LOL carry-on. It's going to be stunning and well worth every brain cell !
@FollowerOfYeshua19742 жыл бұрын
I read that wearing a respirator mask is recommended even though it is "unlikely" that the lead paint will vaporize. In other words, its better to be safe than sorry.
