I can't help but notice the Electrolux metal canister vacuum cleaner in the foreground. My Mom had one just like it! They sure don't make 'em like that anymore. My siblings and I used to ride on the canister while one of us pulled it by the hose. Those things were indestructible.

I hope maybe just one or two others, not previously smitten by family history/ intrigue, will catch the bug by watching your videos. Every person HAS A BACK STORY. EVERY PERSON HAS THESE PERSONAL BITS THAT BECAME YOU TODAY! I became so tired of hearing "stories" when I was a teenager. After my dad died, 2 cousins came to visit my mom. I put a tape recorder on the table when they were drinking coffee after dinner. The old stories evolved into so much more. Thank you for EVERYTHING!

I would love to go through all of this treasure! I’ve done this for several of my family members after they passed and the reason I did it rather than other members of the family is because I would take the time to look through things like you are doing. Everyone else just wanted to throw everything out but I have found some awesome family treasures from taking the time to go through boxes and bags. None had monetary value but the sentiment behind them is priceless!

When I was getting prepared to have his retirement reception I got the robe out of closet in courtroom and had it dry cleaned so I could get his picture made. Surprisingly he didn’t protest. Your house is filled with treasures! Thank you for sharing the fun! If the documents are donated to an appropriate archive, they will take steps to preserve them. You may want to keep copies in your history room, but let the originals be kept in a place that will prevent deterioration. It's sad that all the photographs that were surely important to family members at the time have little meaning to people living today. Each one had a story to tell, but those stories are now gone forever. I have boxes of photos that will doubtless end up in a landfill when I'm gone.

There are so many similarities between your experience with this particular house and my own! A huge collection was also in my home when I bought it, and going through it and learning the family history was such a joy. We are planning a family history wall or room, too. Have you all found any notes from the past occupants? One of the coolest things we've found in our house is a note from 1905 on the wall - after stripping paint off of the plaster (sounds crazy, but it worked!) It was originally written before wallpaper was put up, and detailed the weather of that particular day, and the ages and names of the children living in the house. Good call on the county museum - that's without a doubt the best place for the stuff you won't be keeping in the house! Keep up the fantastic work - I relate to and admire your all's missions!

Love your preservation work, but even more the history you uncover. As a person who loves genealogy, you have a treasure trove and I agree you should donate it to a local genealogy society, of course keeping some things (or copies of) in the house. My grandma had some bug jewelry, and I have some of it. I always thought it strange, but intriguing. When I was young I also found a close up picture of a dead woman in a casket in my mom's drawer of photos. She told me it was my great grandmother. My grandma had zero pictures of her mom, so she took the picture of her in the casket to at least have one.

So, I wear contacts to correct my long vision- BUT- when I have them in they distort my close vision and I can’t see ANYTHING up close. It’s INFURIATING. I have to take my contacts out to see anything up close. So…. I had my contacts in during filming. I’m surprised I could make out any of the letters 🤣

Have a garage sale, you might be surprised. My then-husband’s father, who died when he (my ex) was young, had gone through seminary before he decided to marry rather than become a priest. His wife (ex’s mother) has saved dozens, maybe a hundred, of his religious badges from pilgrimages, etc. I was amazed when a women came by and bought all of them. They weren’t expensive or anything, but said that she loved collecting them. My ex didn’t want them, he had never really known his father and wasn’t sentimental about them. Also, we sold everyone of the inexpensive 60s-era cheap travel souvenirs. Everyone told me not to bother to put them out, but they sold like crazy, some one must collect them. I had priced things like these at about $1.
