50 years ago I worked with a wonderful lady that was engaged to a young man that was killed on WW2. She never married and completely submerged herself into working for charities. She was quite a woman and she was very kind to me. She must have really loved him and sometimes you could see a little sadness in her eyes. She would love you guys and those old homes you save, I'm sure of it.

Dear Kevin and Laine, I watched when you found Marjorie Mae's first love and got as excited as you did. Keep bringing life back to these wonderful homes and sharing each families history. Love and hugs to all.

How wonderful to see this story being shared again and again. I remember when you realized the pilot in the photos was not Marjorie's husband. These stories were not uncommon in those days, sad to say. Among my late father's boxes I found photos, letters, and other mementos that tell the story of his cousin, who was killed in Germany in 1945, three weeks after his daughter was born; while he knew he had a child, he would never see her. Later, in the 1950s, my mother's 'almost fiance' (a Navy Test Pilot) was killed when his plane went over the side of an aircraft carrier. I agree wholeheartedly that these legacies should be preserved, even when there is no family...we history lovers are family after all. :)

I remember the day I watched you sit on the floor n go through all of Marjorie Maes items. I really got goose bumps as you commented on many things n how sad it was also. I’m so happy that you both want to give many of these World War ll items to the museum. They definitely belong there n hoping some history too. You are so admired by me n many people at your love for saving these homes n their history. I only wish there were more people like you. I’d do it but at 71 yrs old it would be a waste of time as my health is not the greatest. Wish I did it years ago. Love you both for your determination n desire to make it right. ♥️😊👍👍♥️♥️♥️♥️

You children are your homes you restore. And when you finish with them and sell them it's like your child graduated from college and they are off on their own. You may visit from a far, passing by the home and proud of it. As it grows with maybe a family too. God bless you both for your loving work you do.

Kevin and Laine: As if I didn't love and admire you both already! I am a total sucker for these kinds of stories! I envy how you restore these beautiful old homes- the only kind to live in, in my opinion. Thanks for sharing this story with the world!

Ah man, I was hoping the news was going to say you also dispels tik tok furniture cleaning myths or that you are working with a company to put out a PSA for public health and safety on refinishing wood. Lol! Great story on you guys! The Marjorie May story literally made me cry as you were digging through everything, and you can see in Laine face the puzzle coming together of this woman's life. Melly is so lucky to have you be her keepers.

Not sure how you two feel about this ...but after watching this news piece, I would SO love it if you guys had your own show!!! You have such a presence on camera! LOVE watching your material. Keep up the great work you are doing!!!

The con to that would be someone else telling them what to say and where to work. It would become another scripted "reality" show nothing like what we're used to seeing them provide.

Great stuff...most people are generally very engaged with our collective history and love getting to the bottom and finding the truth. Architecture, especially ancient architecture, is a BIG piece of the puzzle

How wonderful that the news is helping to share not only Marjorie May's story, but yours as well. I found your channel at the end of January and I've now watched every video on it - some more than once! :) I love mansard roofs, old everything (especially houses), and stories of how people lived (down to the most seemingly boring detail). I currently have a very plain 1951 house in Los Angeles, but my dream is to restore something fabulous. I love you two and everything you're doing to preserve history.

Laine and Kevin you both inspire me so much to pursue my dream. I've been told in the past that restoring and conserving old homes is pointless, that I should sell the land and subdivide. Make more money that way. Thank you thank you for showing others the importance of preserving history travelling back in time and connecting with ancestors. I'm in Australia so don't know about this love story but I'll definitely look into it. Much love from Liana 💚💚

My aunt's husband was MIA, during WW2 (they did not know that he was actually in a POW camp). No matter what anyone said, she would not give up that he was alive. For the years of the war, she saved every penny she made, to build them a house for when he returned. One day, she was washing dishes, with my mother, at my grandmother's house. She looked up and saw her husband walking up the country, dirt road. She turned to my mother and said, "Am I seeing things?" Mother said, "No, it's xxx". My aunt dropped the dish and ran outside. (That was our family WW2 love story). They never had children and when both of them died (he lived to be 96 was last to pass on) his hateful sister got the home and is letting it deteriorate, with all the nice furniture and things in it. I drive by it all the time and it makes me sad and angry.

These tragic stories were both SO heartbreaking AND UNFORTUNATELY very common... PERHAPS someone will start a new WW2 museum that accepts and catalogues and preserves the "EVERYMAN" of that era.
