If you enjoy canned beans this is a great recipe for you. The small white navy beans cook up really well with a minimum amount of soaking and the flavors from the sauce make it hard to tell this bean recipe from the best ones you can buy in the can at the store.
Favorite Canned Baked Bean
2 lbs of white navy beans
7 cups of tomato juice
3 cups plain tomato sauce
2 cups of brown sugar
1 ½ cups chopped onions
½ cup molasses
1 ½ tbsps of liquid smoke
1 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp allspice
1 ½ tbsps of dried mustard
Carefully pick through 3 pounds of dried small white navy beans, looking for ones that are not perfect and ensure there are no foreign objects in them, like rocks or sticks. Rinse the beans and then put them in a large pot, cover the beans with water about one inch over the beans. Bring the pot to a boil and then shut the heat off and time one hour. After the one hour is up drain the beans add them back to the pot covering them again with water about one inch over the beans. Bring to a boil and then turn down to simmer for 30 minutes.
While the beans are simmering move on to the sauce. Mix all of the remaining ingredients together in a big pot and stirring frequently simmer the mixture until the timer goes for the beans.
Drain the beans. Fix quart jars ¾ full with beans and ladle the sauce over the beans. Clean your jar rims and put on the bands. Put the filled jars into your pressure canner and can quarts for 90 minutes and pints for 75 minutes.

I’m planning to can 7 or 8 quarts of baked beans today, so I’m just looking at various recipes to see how I might improve my own. I must say that out of all the videos I’ve seen, your sauce looks the absolute best! It is so rich in color, and it just looks delicious! Thanks for the video!

Hello, I am glad that you are enjoying the coleslaw we think its pretty fantastic. I will be sharing some recipes for water bathed canning the old fashioned way. Just working up my bravery because there are a lot of people out there that have been conditioned to think that the USDA way of canning is the only way and they are very sure they are right. Cheers, Colleen

@@oursilvermoments6028 you are so right. It takes 4 hours in my pressure canner from beginning to end the Amish water bath I think everything for 3 hours. So maybe it's a short cut, maybe it's not. I'm going to try and can mac and cheese soon. Lol they partly cook the noodles, because they say it keeps them firmer. I'm going to try it both ways and see which is better.

For this, I really want to try making baked beans. You have the same type of electric canner I do. That is yours call 44 cups of water in the creator pressure and steam? I used mine to cook 1/2 pints of plain navy beans. Sometimes my husband likes something for supper that I am not fond of so now he can have his choice and I’ll just heat up some navy beans for me. Yay!

I made your sauce last night and did pinto beans. I presoaked for just a few hours and put a couple tablespoons of organic vinegar. Then drained and rinsed and put fresh water in and cooked for 30 minutes. Did the sauce and canned, but I was worried about them swelling so I only filled 3/4 full, there was like 2-3 inches from the one inch space, now I am concerned they will not be safe to use. I didn't understand chicken has how many inches of head space and safe. Someone said to redo them. I am not doing that. Will they be safe?
