I think its definitely a worthwhile investment, The 'meals in jars' are my fave thing! Especially for busy days, sometimes I really just don't feel like cooking anything and anyone can heat up a meal! Butter Chicken is one of our new faves too, being able to have kind of a gourmet meal on the shelf, even better! But it helps with storage space too, even just putting straight meat in them!

I got an Carey electric cooker/CANNER off Amazon. 4 wide-mouth (only) quarts , or any 5 pints. Found out I can process commercial frozen veges & fruit--skip all the washing, cleaning cutting! Just treat the mostly thawed like it's fresh. Meats!! ❤❤❤ pot roast in a 🫙! Pork roast also makes pulled pork, just add your sauce. Lamb roast. Chicken breast. Or b.s. chicken thighs. Leftover spiral cut ham and dry beans. Ground meats. Make your own hummus, baked beans.😊😊😊😊

Raw bones are always going to be good for dogs but if I’m using the bones to cook with then I can’t feed them, unless I get them to this pureeable consistency :). We checked with our vet at one point when Daisy was having her puppies etc and they said it was a great thing to feed them, and they love it added to their dry food :) As Jennifer said just plain potatoes canned in chicken stock is another way we can them! I must say out of all the methods I’ve done I do prefer them in soup.

I don't really like onion unless it is somewhat caramelised hehe, though I will put it raw in some of my soup jars because after 90 mins processing and then reheating its lovely and translucent, but there is definitely more of a depth of flavour when you caramelise the sugars first!

The soup ounds good, i will have to try it. I think I still have a Christmas ham bone in the freezer 😅 Do you save your regular jars and lids for canning? Ive been using some of the large regular jars and new lug lids with good results. They are good to supplement the ball and vacola jars and so much cheaper. I was lucky enough to be gifted a few boxes of the big vacola jars and so far have just canned cubed potatoes in them so I was very interested to see this recipe. I am also cooking for 7-8 most meals so the bigger jars work well for us.
@OurSmallFootprint
@OurSmallFootprint Жыл бұрын
Yes! I keep all jars and buy and reuse some lids too depending on the quality :D. But I haven't tried them for any pressure canning as yet, I know a lot of people who have, but while I have Fowlers jars, I tend to use those for any pressure canning and the supermarket jars for water bath/steam canning :D I use this size for a lot of soups/stews, we still end up opening 2 sometimes 3 depending on if we're having it with pasta/rice/bread etc. But so much better than half a doz smaller ones hehe

@@OurSmallFootprintI also Like the mix and match idea. Seeing as we need to open multiple jars we can cater to different preferences. And small jars do seem like a good idea. Lately I have been adding a soup option if the meal feels a bit light or there are extra people showing up so small soups might work for that too to fill in the gaps. Also soup for lunch when there are less of us at home during the day. I have a big order of chicken frames being delivered soon so I will get right onto it! Its so cold this morning I feel the need to do some baking and preserving 🥶

we remove large chunks yes, the bits that are leftover are negligible in the scope of the quantity they are eating, 100g per 20kg of dogs is considered 'toxic' and they only get a half cup of the entirety of the wet food with their dry kibble :)

You do realize onions and garlic are toxic to dogs? A little is fine, once in a while, but as a regular thing it can make them very sick. Love the rooster!
@OurSmallFootprint
@OurSmallFootprint 8 ай бұрын
Yop :). I assume I was doing leftover stock for dog food in this video - I pull the big chunks out that I see but the ratio of it in there is super minimal when spread out :) it’s something along the lines of 100g of onion per kg of body weight in a dog for toxic levels, the puréed food is only fed a cup a day with their dry kibble and the level of garlic and onion in there that I don’t pull out I’m comfortable with :)
