I am from Kolkata. Born and brought up here. Durga Pujo for us is not just a religious occasion. It's a cultural function. A festival of 10 days. A reunion for the far and away. Nearly all Bengalis who live outside West Bengal fly back here to celebrate this time. There are roughly 30,000 pandals made all over West Bengal during Durga Pujo, out of which around 13k are in Kolkata alone. You will need a whole map and q guide if you are coming here during this time. There is no peak hours. Pandals are open 24 hours and police and volunteers work with no break. It's a grand affair. Bengalis wait for the whole year only for this festival. Even the countdown for the next year with the slogan "ASCHE BOCHOR AABAR HOBE" starts on Dashami of that year. This festival is celebrated all across India by the name Navaratri however in a very different way. Non Bengalis are not allowed to eat non-veg food during this 10 days. While you will find Bengalis eating every kind of food and specifically non-veg on a high note. We eat vegetarian food only on Maha Ashtami, since on that day is the main Puja. All girls wear sarees and all boys in traditional Panjabis that day. We buy a minimum of 5 new clothes before the Puja starts. And we wear them during this time. ( PS: I bought 11 clothes this year ;3 ) It's a grand grand thing here. Everyone in West Bengal irrespective of their caste, class, religion and age enjoy this festival. This year due to Covid situation, the Judiciary said that there will be no pandal hopping. We have never seen Kolkata so sad during Durga Pujo ever. May Maa Durga bless us :) And we never have to stay at our homes during Durga Pujo like this :")

Not a single festival like Durga Puja....it's the festival of food art culture tradition creativity ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
No single person can stand single in front of any God!! I'm saying this because it happened with me as i went to a very famous durga maa temple in the east! I was a bit late so i was only left in that temple and as I go in front of durga deity I can no more withstand on my feet because the energy is so unbelievable and amazing that my whole body was shaking!! I can not explain that energy but it was so powerful that i bet that no single person can withstand in front of god!! Then I bow down to durga maa and I started praying to her🙏 and then I became normal!!! My body was not shaking anymore and now I feel very great!! So this shows that worship has it's own great importance in today's morden world also!!! We might be forgetting India culture due to western influence but there is something unbelievable and insane and unique in our culture that can not be forgotten and even the foreign scientist cannot find the insane facts and breataking places and temples and the mystery behind their creation!! Jai Maa Durga!! 🚩🚩🚩🚩

Most of us spent the puja days by sitting on the chair, having chai and snakes and keeping our eys to the computer screen or smart phones to watch the pandals virtually. It's a terrorising situation we are going through. It is not clear how long is going the take the vaccine to arrive in the market and once again we can live our lives happily but till then we must act responsively and think for others.
