Thanks so much for this series of videos for the Twin Air. I was able to change the Engine Oil, fit a new Oil Filter, Air Filter and Spark Plugs myself. Really appreciate you supplying the Torque settings too. Last week I fitted a new stop start battery tested all the fuses and relays ( I thought my starter motor / solenoid had packed up at first but it was the old battery at fault). New battery in, clutch down, turn the key and she fired right up where before It was a quiet single click with clutch down or not and no crank either way. A few weeks ago I had a new Oil Cooler unit fitted as coolant was leaking. The metal body had cracked! All good for the winter ahead now I reckon. Tyres and Brakes are looking good. The MOT may throw something up like a shock spring etc. But I feel your videos have already saved me plenty of dough on more garage fees and I was able to do all this at home this morning and drive this afternoon. Hell of difference in the driving experience now too. Night and Day. Feels good as new. with over 82000 on the clock. Cheers!

As the Twinair uses the engine oil as part of the hydraulic tappet control for the inlet valves the oil viscosity has an effect on the operation of the inlet valves and the fuel mixture. In order to allow for the change in oil viscosity after an oil change the ECU controlling the tappets has to adapt to the new viscosity. There is a service function called "Oil Change Reset" that is initiated using equipment plugged into the OBD2 port. I believe this resets the values in the ECU allowing the unit to adapt to the viscosity of the new oil (it may even trigger a learn mode). I have done half a dozen oil changes without doing this and had no trouble however I believe others have had problems with MOT emissions soon after an oil change. I recently carried out this procedure and found that while the option existed on my OBD2 scanner it would not actually wok. I got out the laptop and used multiscan to successfully complete this procedure. I also believe the Twinair engines are sensitive to the type of oil due to the hydraulic tappet control but I have used the correct viscosity Castrol oil with no problem (55000 Miles, 2011 reg). If you cannot do the oil change reset you might wait until after an MOT before changing the oil. That way the system will have time to adjust even though a reset hasn't been carried out. Worth considering.

I think the Euro 5 spec cars have the usual Fiat 5W40 oil, 0W30 appears to have come in with Euro 6 spec cars. I think this is to improve MPG but some say it helps stopping the multi-air unit from clogging up. Personally I would replace the oil every 8,000 miles on these as the tiny turbo engine has to work hard. Also, cleaning the metal multi-air filter is essential.

Thanks. How to know if my car is EURO5 or EURO6? 😃 Should the Twin Air filter be cleaned once in a while?
@AMSVauxhall6 ай бұрын
If you are in the UK you can find out by going to an emission’s government website. If outside of UK then it is possibly in you paperwork or ask a garage to look up your registration/ engine on the likes of Autodata. If you know the service history of the car and it is well / regularly maintained then the Twin Air oil filter should be fine. I actually checked the one on this car just before it was sold on and it was clean as a whistle and we owned this car for 6 years Andy👨🏼🔧

I’ve never heard anything bad about them. A good service history would be a start. I’ve looked after this Fiat since 20,000miles (now on 78,000) and it has been a brilliant engine. Nothing to be concerned about. It is a common fault / design flaw which is remedied by replacing the timing chain cover gasket but as that is a lot of work it’s not worth doing for all it leaks. It hasn’t got any worse in the 6 years of ownership.
