With so much of today's penchant for Christian praise music, the meat of scriptures set to music is a refreshing balm to my soul. Give me more of the Word, and less singing of my own feelings!

No need for the instrumental music - that belonged to the childhood of the church - all swept away with the veil of the temple being ripped in twain.

I come from a conservative church in Switzerland and we always sing the old hymns. I am on an exchange in Aberdeen right now studying English Literature and Gaelic. I was so afraid I wouldn't find any church with a bit more traditional music and not the modern stuff, one normally finds nowadays. I was so pleasantly surprised to find a church still singing the old Psalms a capella which is so beautiful and helps you concenrate on the lyrics so much more.

I am just now discovering psalm singing, and I am loving it. Wish I had discovered it long ago. Great way to learn and hide God's Word within your heart.

And you don't need an organ either - something that belonged to the childhood of the church. Hebrews 13:15-17 King James Version (KJV) 15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

Today I was reading Psalm 130. The more I meditated on this psalm, I was deeply touched the words. " In his word I hope." I was surprised when I found this hynm. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful song.

This sounds like a recording called The Psalms of Scotland by the Scottish Philharmonia Singers. The recording is no longer available to purchase and has now been taken off Spotify as well. It is an excellent album and a singing lesson for many.

If you enjoy tradional music and are studying gaelic then you should take a trip to the Outer Hebrides. Alot of the Churches there still sing the old fashion way of singing in Gaelic(giving out the line)

Right - it had showed up in the wrong place so I deleted it. It's up again now. I also wrote this, which may appear further down. Starting at 1:58 and ending at 2:36 is the most beautiful rendition of any simple harmonization I've ever heard. Truly splendid work. It's good to experiment with the harmonizations...such as quarter notes and slurs etc but one must do it without spoiling it with modernity. For example - 2:02 to 2:05 is a beautiful example, in the alto section, if I'm not mistaking.

This beautiful psalm speaks of the lost sinner crying unto all mighty God out of the depths of his sinful nature which covers his soul like the ocean, and where forgiveness can be found in God alone through Jesus Christ or Lord, for salvation is of God; , for as it is taught in the scriptures, for by GRACE are ye saved through faith and that not of yourself it is the gift of God, NOT of WORKS lest any man should boast. For Christ being the soul head of his church, and the Holy Spirit who being the vicar of Christ. scripture teaches; there is NONE righteous no not one, for ALL have sinned and come short of the glory of GOD. So these infallible words of God remind us that no pope or priest or any man can save the soul but Christ alone who being the only mediator between GOD and men. As Christ cried out on the cross, IT iS FINISHED! The work of redemption that the father had sent him into the world to do was complete and never to be repeated, praise ye the Lord. Amen.🙏🏻

The success of the gospel and the Christian message does not depend on any human or human office. The representative of Christ on earth is the Holy Spirit. See John 14-16. By assuming the place of Christ on earth the pope denies the work of the Spirit. By assuming the title "holy father" he denies the work of The Father, and by assuming the power to forgive sins he denies the work of Christ. The pope is therefore not Christian but anti-Christian. Sola-Christus!

IanLenelle Macleod God bless you, I’m not defending the pope, I’m not even catholic I’m Orthodox Christian God gave the power of forgiveness of sins to the church before he was ascended into heaven (If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.”) John 20-23
