Thank you for sharing all these videos! I learn quiet a lot about OOTP here as I am relatively new to the game...

Stunned!! Did not see a sweep coming, at least not us on the wrong side of it. Neither side of the ball performed unfortunately and the Rangers have come good at the right time after finishing the season on a five game losing streak. I'm rooting for the Tigers now.. can't have our division rivals taking a third title in recent years or the Padres a hat-trick of victories.

The record contracts coming in the real MLB are going to cause some major questions in OOTP 26. Do they massively up the amount of both money and years that big market teams are willing to offer? Right now, we do not see contracts anywhere near Ohtani's or Soto's getting offered in OOTP. In a broader sense, it re-raises questions about adding a salary cap and floor, as my Pittsburgh Pirates seem determined to continue shedding salary from their already abysmally low payroll, instead of building a winning roster when they are at the apex of their 5-year rebuild.

I think I saw a stat in the past few days that the Pirates have paid less in salary to their entire team over the past decade than the value of the contract Soto just signed!

Ortega not on playoff roster would be like Dodgers not having Kirk Gibson back in the days. Both wrecked. We all know what that resulted in. One of the greatest moment I can think off. Still gives me chills watching or just thinking on it.

I got to see a couple great moments in person over the years, but they were always with teams that ended up falling just short. In '95 when the Yankees finally made it back to the playoffs for the first time since I was a kid in '81, I was at game 2 when the Yankees took a 2-0 series lead on the Mariners. The loudest I ever heard Yankee Stadium was when Mattingly hit what would end up being the only postseason HR of his career, in his only postseason appearance, in what ended up being his final home game ever, to give the Yankees the lead in the bottom of the sixth. Even when Leyritz hit the HR in the bottom of the 15th to give the Yankees the win, it was not as loud as that Mattingly HR (of course there were a lot less people in the park by then). But the Yankees went on to lose three straight in Seattle, and Mattingly decided to take a "year off" for his back and never played again. And then in '03 I was at Game Seven of the ALCS against the Red Sox in the Aaron Boone game. When Boone drilled that first-pitch HR off of Wakefield in the bottom of the 11th to send the Yankees to the World Series, that was the second loudest I ever heard the Stadium. But of course The Yankees went on to lose the World Series to the Marlins, and then the Red Sox came back from 3-0 the next season...

@@oldschoolsports Isn't it nice to remember all those moments, good or bad. All the great players one has seen and the games. I had some "blackout years" when moving to Europe early 90s, but then satelite TV and internet came on and it was time to get back to follow sports in US more closely. Sadly one sport that I really lost in that span was basketball. Just caught up a bit the last 3-4 years. Of course Europe served up a new world of sports so I was never starved. Now getting ready for the "Battle of Manchester". Unied vs City. That is rivalry.

@@oldschoolsports And on the Manchester Derby I just have to say Christmas is saved. United victorious. 🥳 And guess you must be happy too with the Jets win. Aaron and Adams finally hooked up good in that game. But I must say it looked weird in the end with some coach decisions. Guess Ullrich isn't all certain how to do it. It could have ended poorly if not for Sauce snatching that interception on Jags last drive. A drive that they surely shouldn't even have had IMHO.

A good run this year OSS. 🏴‍☠ I am not all that surprised Soto left. To be honest he didn't seem to enjoy second fiddle to Judge, so I am with rich- probably a better choice to get Fried and hope he can stay healthy. I am interested in what the rest of the winter brings league-wide, Arenado is definitely moving to a contender per Mozeliak today, lots of other possibilities. Alas, it seems the boys just ran outta gas offensively with the exception of a couple youngsters and Uresti. I am not sure what to say about our pitching; we did give up a decent amount of home runs (9th I think it was?) in season, but wowsers, the wheels came off in a series that looks like it was a bad matchup timing wise and just bad luck I think. Ugh, skunked again by Genus and his owner's payroll. Well, time to lick our wounds and reload this winter, eh? Go get 'em Tiger!

That's rough, you did everything right. Sometimes the dice roll is not favorable. You just have a great team in you division with arguably the best pitcher ever. 6 straight Cy Youngs is crazy. This guy might get the record in for most Cy Youngs and do it consecutively. But the veteran Dorah was the right match against Genus. He's just an all-timer, Langford too. I think the yankees need to sign Alonso. then maybe another reliever. I think Alonso gives them a good big bat and he's a good guy. Then Trade for a 3B, Move Chisholm to the outfield. then they are set. I think Alonso isn't Soto but Soto benefited hitting ahead of Judge, Alonso would too
@oldschoolsports
@oldschoolsports Ай бұрын
It will be interesting to see what they end up doing... lots of options still out there, I almost think they might be best off if they try to tap the trade market using some of their excess starting pitching. I'm hoping they have a plan...

@patrickdebonis6493

@@oldschoolsports I like the deal for the Red Sox short term. I love the deal for the White Sox medium to long term. Teel is a top 25 prospect. He is a left handed hitting catcher whose defense is decent but not great. There is still plenty or room for growth with him. He would have had good chance to win the starting job next Spring, but the BoSox are sold on Wong. I like Wong, but he can play other places in the field. His framing is marginal, but he is a right handed hitter and they lack that. Montgomery is a top 50 prospect. He is a switch hitter with good power and a rightfielder's arm. These two would have been worth Crochet alone. In addition, the ChiSox got WInkelman Gonzalez who is a low floor/high ceiling pitcher who throws in the mid 90's and Chase Meidroth who I don't much about.

@@patrickdebonis6493 Thanks for the analysis! Looks like the Yankees missed on Tucker (wasn't really expecting to see an Astros-Yankees trade), but Devin Williams should definitely help the back of the Yankees bullpen... at least until October!

@@patrickdebonis6493 I think he'll definitely be a big help to the bullpen, although it is a little odd that the two guys most likely to be pitching in the late innings for the Yankees are righties who are both reliant on a change up as their top weapon!

Now maybe a bandaid might come the other way over the river. Pete Alonso might be just perfect at 1B for Yankees (with a contract not breaking the bank). Coming days will show. I understand there is talk going on.. Alonso is proven top HR and Yankees need a healthy 1B since questions on Rizzo I think. Signings like that has often been the Yankees ways. Power hitters. Think closer Devin Williams might add something at closer, and Fried is nice for the roation. I do think Yankees should try finding something else than Judge in CF. Like a Bernie Williams-type hopefully. Bellinger might be an answer. But at the end of the day nothing replace Juan Soto. Gosh 15 years into the future to find out. I'm not sure I will still be above earth. Gloomy thoughts indeed.

Ha, I have been thinking the same thing as I have been thinking about that contract! Will be interesting to see what the Yankees end up doing. I think the team really needs a left handed bat, so I'm not sure they end up with Alonso, even though I agree he would be an upgrade from Rizzo. I think they may end up going a little cheaper and shorter contract with Walker at 1B, although that would also not be a lefty bat. Would love some help in CF, if not I think they probably throw Dominguez out there and find out what the kid can do...

Agreed... don't like losing him, don't like losing him to the Mets, but we could look back at this midway through the contract as a really good decision. Especially if we invest some of the money Hal saved in improving the team!
